Gorillapod maker Joby is taking legal action against a manufacturer of 'fake gorillas' – an imitation tripod that reportedly can cause camera and tripod to crash onto the ground.A spokeswoman for Gorillapod's UK distributor Intro 2020 told Amateur Photographer: 'We understand that Joby USA are in litigation with the manufacturer of these tripods.'She added: 'I cannot comment any further.'It is not clear whether any of the fake products have reached the UK market.The source of the inferior imitation has not been identified, reports Japanese trade publication Pen News Weekly, in its issue dated 19 October.Gorillapod's importer Kenko has warned the Japanese photo trade that the Joby logo and 'quick-set' camera plate is missing on the imitation. I have one of those cheap bendable tripods that you can get for your point-and-shoot camera. I've seen the Gorillapod which looks to be a pretty good improvement on my cheaper version.I saw this video on creating a cool do-it-yourself tripod though that doesn't look as pretty but would do a much better job than my cheap tripod and would also work for my camcorder. Even better than that is that it costs about $1 in materials and about 10 minutes of your time to make (if you're not very handy with tools).
This device will solve any problems that you have ever had with getting the picture right. You know how it is with uneven surfaces, imagine you are taking a nice family picture, you balance the camera and just as the picture is about to be taken the camera moves slightly and you end up with a picture of the floor or just a load of feet.
The millipod is supposed to be the slimmest tripod around, and it attaches permanently to the bottom of the camera and it is then forgotten about until you have then need for it.
Because you have three legs on the camera you can always find an even balance, which will help the camera stay even.
