One night after watching Joe Borowski blow a save opp to the Angels, the Indians returned the favor Tuesday in Anaheim, as Travis Hafner bailed them out with a two-run, two-out homer in the teams 4-3 win. The team was down to their last strike in the 9th when Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk off of losing pitcher Justin Speier. I have been searching for an authentic copy of The Sexual Mores Of The Bud-Hadnu Tribe translated and edited by Sir Leslie Smythe. Lord Smythe attended numerous meetings of the “Inklings”, a group of literary scholars who met weekly to discuss their works. Members included JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis, the founders and close friends. Most of the time, they met at Lewis’ dorm room on Magdalen College, England, or a local pub (1). Sir Smyth has been known to attend the meetings for two years during the time he was translating the Sexual Mores of the Bud-Hadnu Tribe. His version retains the original old English translation of the text, no doubt influenced by the expertise of JRR Tolkien who was an authority of Chaucer and old English. Tolkien studied Finnish and was also fluent in Romanian.
The only version I could locate was translated by Father Brian McBryan (2) who published it with a more contemporary syntax rather than old English. The dedication reads:

As a Cleveland Indians fan, shame on me to watch a movie instead during the game. We watched Ben Stiller’s The Heartbreak Kid instead. Didn’t realize it was rated R until J told me as I was surprised at the nudity and crudeness. Overall a funny movie, Jerry Stiller was his classic funny self as usual.
I digress… good couple of games by the Indians and they are up 2-0 in the series. Now it’s to New York for a sweep. Though I don’t think they’ll win on Sunday, I think they’ll take game 4.

The Cleveland Indians Friday night saw the second pitcher on their staff attain win number 18, as Cleveland defeated the Oakland A's 4-3. The pitcher who reached the mark against Oakland in the first game of their weekend series, Fausto Carmona who suffered through an badly thought out plan to try to turn this natural starter into a closer.
