AFC East Offensive Lines: New England’s Success Starts In The Trenches
It has long been stated that football is won in the trenches, and the signing of Michigan tackle Jack Long by the Miami Dolphins as the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft underscore that importance. And since New England has dominated its division foes by giving quarterback Tom Brady all day to pick [...]

Football is Won in the Trenches - How do the Broncos Measure Up?
Today, CBS Sportsline has a couple of articles ranking the 32 NFL franchises’ offensive and defensive lines. This is something I’m interested in more than any other comparison any of these national media sites can do - it’s the exact reason why a talented Denver Broncos team failed to deliver in 2007. The top of [...]

Comparing Office Applications in the Trenches
Comparing Office applications on Mac OS X. iWorks is cheap and well integrated, but lacks file compatibility. MS Office 2008 is too pricey. OpenOffice based on X Windows system is too hard to use because of X Windows. NeoOffice is not bad for a free application.

      J. Crew's ruffled trench coat is adorable and if you have $250 to spend on your Spring wardrobe, it's certainly a staple item. I'm going to look for a trench coat for for less money, but I still want one that makes a bold statement on its own.Keep accessories minimal and pair it with skinny pants, heels, and a big pair of glasses. You'll feel like a chick right out of a 1940s Film Noir.Subscribe to The Chicago Girl

GMC v Southall - Transcript Sightings and A View From the Trenches.
Fighting For Child Protection; Digging In Against GMC Incompetence. NHS Exposed has them online now - Click Here to Download. Jonathan Gornall has also amazingly published them. I mentioned that the GMC was clueless on the subject of child protection and have made no efforts to learn. When we view the comments made by people who do know about child protection, this is what they said :-"David was clearly acting not only correctly but carefully and did everything he reasonably could have done to protect himself; and yet he still gets hung. Okay, they don't imprison or execute anyone but this is a body that can destroy peoples livelihoods; yet it operates to standards that would make a banana republic blush. As doctors, we ALL deserve better than the current rabble at the GMC ""I would support an RCPCH committee vote of no confidence in the GMC re their competence to handle child protection complaints. There is no evidence that they have or have attempted to acquire thenecessary competen

      Back to the Trenches
I had computers at one of the local junior highs in town. The first two hours, I had an intern who conducted class, which was nice. So I only had to watch 4 hours of classes, instead of the regular six. The rest of the day went by smoothly without any problems. It was a nice break from the battle zone of the high schools.

      Back In The Trenches.
I’m going back to work tomorrow at The-restaurant-whose-name-we-shall-not-speak. It’s only for a couple of weekend nights here and there and I’m always in need of a little more money. Plus, my internship is only Monday through Thursday. God help the sushi-loving, Japanese cuisine-eating people of St. Augustine, Florida.

More Serialized Sci-Fi in the 'Trenches'
As I try to just craft a script for my serial/movie that I want to produce, I'm finding more and more filmmakers using the same model. So far on Film Flap I've mentioned The West Side, Venus Rises, Prom Queen, and Sanctuary. Now comes Trenches, a sci-fi action movie that is to be released in 15 episodes coming this fall. The producer/director of the project is Shane Felux, the guy who gained some fame for his Star Wars fan film, Revelations. On that movie he farmed out all his effects work to artists and fans all over the world, who would create a sequence (or parts of one) then send it to him over the net. This is a great idea, as you could have lots of people interested in your movie become a part of it without ever leaving their home. Felux would go on to tribute George Lucas directly with his effects comedy, Pitching Lucas (which featured an actor from one of my shorts, Tye Nelson).Trenches has an impressive looking trailer, but the story looks terribly derivative. It appears to

      Back to the trenches
I'm back at the office. Hopefully I can stave off another bout of tonsilitis long enough to get a blog post in. Cough Cough. Fortunately the doctor has referred me to a ENT specialist to hopefully get this sorted out so fingers crossed - first appointment is next tuesday.Anyway, I have decided to start back with a positive frame of mind and have ordered Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2007 - it took a little convincing to the powers that be due to the high initial cost of the server license but I got the go ahead. In my view in a couple of years time sharepoint, as a general technology at least, will be the predominant way of networking within small/medium enterprises. Doing away with manual drive mappings that add little value and instead giving users a better sense of integration and community has to be the way forward - lets hope it finds itself a core technology in future versions of windows.

Go To Notes From The Trenches
I thought I am done posting about Heather and ready to go on with my usual posting. But another touching "decision" happened, I can't help but post it here.Chris from Notes From the Trenches decided to openly ask her blog readers to financially give to Heather..to support the fund raising that Boomama is doing for Heather. She has organized a drawing for those who will give.Go here to read the whole announcement (look for post titled GIVING). What touches me the most is when she said "I want to believe in that God of Heather’s, I do." This gave me goose bumps all over. This is actually making me teary eyed right now. I know that "line" will make Heather happy. Heather's testimony has touched Chris. This is wonderful.Notes from the Trenches has about 5,000 average readers. Thousands of people read this blog daily. She risked posting something about giving (she said she knew some of her reader will not like it and may not come back but that is ok). She may have risk a lot

From the Visual Studio .NET 2005 trenches
Since I spend most of my day breathing VS .NET, I figured I post a few cheers and gripes. Here are my favorite features for the obsessively organized person that I am:Rename and extract methods often. The refactoring tools in .NET are fantastic. No more cryptic out-of-date out-of-context variable names and methods. Even renaming files and subsequently their class names is a breeze.Intellisense intellitype. Coding has evolved beyond how well you can copy and paste and is now how well you use the TAB key. The .NET intellitype somehow magically predicts what I want to type next. I try to make software that is fairly intelligent and in tune with the users needs, but not to the point of being telepathically scary! Here are some wishes:I always use my extra back button on the mouse for navigating backwards in web browsers and Windows Explorer, and I'd like to see the back button used to navigate backwards in a source file (currently on the toolbar with Ctrl+- accelerator).Make classe

      trenches
I'm not in the Lifetime Achievement area yet - I'm still battling it out in the trenches. Michael Caine I have spent the day with Rebecca, my utterly gorgeous friend and mother of three very small children. In a rare break from tradition she ventured, sans enfants, into my world, a long glass of wine away from her entourage of children, nappies and unfinished sentences. It was a glorious escape. There was coffee in abundance, a variety of sinful pastries and the inevitable Wine of Celebration. Stories were told langorously from start to finish, dreams were exposed in all their ridiculous and delicious glory and expletives were tossed about with careless and reckless abandon. Freedom. Like a radiant Rubenesque madonna my friend embraced her emancipation with a vigour I had almost forgotten. She was a vision both intoxicating and refreshing to behold. On the other hand, it appears I take my decadence for granted. To my younger friends I seem an enviable creature of leis

Humor from the Trenches of Business
I pulled this from an e-mail I received from ManyWorlds yesterday.  The best humor always has a basis in truth and, oh boy, is this true! A Little Humor for the Holiday Season.... A man in a hot air balloon is lost. He sees a man on the ground and reduces height to speak to him."Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?""You're in a hot air balloon hovering thirty feet above this field," comes the reply."You must work in Information Technology," says the balloonist."I do," says the man, "How did you know?""Well," says the balloonist, "Everything you told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to anyone.""You must be in business," says the man."I am," says the balloonist, "How did you know?""Well," says the man, "You don't know where you are, you don't know where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."   Spotlight - Tech Central Station is a great resource for well thought out commentary

      To The Trenches!
      As spring approaches our desire to wear lighter, more comfortable clothes increases. I can't wait to finally be able to wear one of my favorite pieces this season: The Trench Coat. The trench has gone from everyday basic to statement piece and it has become very versatile. Proof of that was the RTW spring 07 collections as seen in Lanvin, Celine, Burburry (the inventor of the trench coat, betcha didn't know!), Carolina Harrera and Michael Kors among many others. Wear it long, short, cropped, belted, single-breasted, double-breasted, with pants, skirts, dresses, leggings, or however suits your mood. This new take on the trench coat will make it the stellar piece in your wardrobe.Burberry RTW Spring 2007Celine RTW Spring 2007Lanvin RTW Spring 2007 function shimImage(img){img.src = "/store/catalog/images/shim.gif" }
