      Old Apple Trees
5"X7" Pencil on paper I spent far too much time fiddling around with some new php code that I might incorporate into my website. So here I am, getting close to midnight and having to bang something out in a hurry. Most of the fruit trees around here are pretty young. Fashions change pretty fast and it isn't at all unusual to see whole orchards of apparently healthy trees ripped up and new trees planted in their place. A new variety may be more in demand than the old one, or maybe they just travel better, never mind the taste. So it is quite unusual to see a well-tended orchard of old trees like this one. This is a subject that would probably lend itself to treatment with oils much more readily than pencil or watercolour, but I seem to be setting myself a lot of challenges lately.

Air Trees in Madrid Will Produce Oxygen and Energy
The “Air Tree” pavilion is to be built from recycled materials and will be 100% energy self-sufficient. The “tree,” using photo-voltaic cells, produces a substantial amount of energy, which is then sold back to the local electric companies, the profits being used for maintenance of the structure. The second byproduct is of course oxygen.read more | digg story

      Forest, Trees, Etc.
Sen. Collins waives two cents at war critics, and BDN acts like she's given them a dollar.Wednesday's BDN editorial is better than the paper's first article touting the junior senator's proposed ban on Iraq reconstruction spending: The piece acknowledges that the plan is almost purely symbolic. But it still errs in characterizing the proposal as genuine, meaningful progress.Notably, it fails to mention that there is no new funding in the pipeline for Iraq reconstruction--at least none that I've been able to find. So prohibiting such expenditure is either an empty gesture, or a suggestion that the President can't be trusted not to shift US military funds to Iraq reconstruction projects.(Of course, if Collins thinks the latter is the case, and that the President is fundamentally untrustworth

I guess the only thing left of Men in Trees is another broken home courtesy of uber-skank Anne Heche. While Anne's real life coupling with co-star James Tupper will only last until she discovers her true calling as a transgender heart breaker, I am going to miss the quirky rom-com, which the powers that be at ABC never gave a chance:It has aired on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, at various times, over the course of two seasons, and then there were two long hiatus—one to make room for October Road, and then the writer's strike. Only an inane reality show could have survived that kind of bumping. Cat's love to climb, cat trees are a perfect place to do that with many of them having a number of levels for a cat to climb to before being at the top of the proverbial world and looking down at any animals below, tail wagging, ready to pounce. Cat nature is also to scratch. Most cat trees are made of materials like carpet and sisal rope that are just begging to be scratched and will hold up when your cat obliges and digs his nails in. Cats love to play hide and seek. Many cat trees have various places to crawl in and out of on the levels of the tree. Special days like these are something for us to remember and the reason behind celebrating such day is also something we should think upon. In regards to honor this special day, Dizzywood- a great and fun virtual world for kids (especially from 8 to 12 years old) has announced a special in-world event! Curious to know more? :) Here comes... We are all aware of the destruction men has caused especially in preserving the natural forests of the earth. The watermelons, the zucchinis, the wheat that used to grow in the fields couldn’t grow anymore. People began to flee the countryside to live in the cities. Fez, Meknes, and Casablanca, gained tens of thousands of inhabitants. Those who stayed in the country had to find a way to eat. Their fields were dry. No water, no wheat, no watermelons, no zucchinis. So they cut up their trees, to sell the wood. Their nourishing trees, their olives trees. It probably was very sad. The hills, which were covered with trees, became all empty. But the trees continue to feed the people. From breakfast to dinner, the trees are in the

Does money really grow on trees? The importance of curb appeal
I enjoy seeing a pretty home!  The drive-up impression is very important when I show a property.  I have often felt that 70% of the buying decision was made in the first 3 minutes after pulling in front of the home.  Sometimes Buyers have made up their mind before their foot hits the pavement to step out of the car.  If they like the exterior look of the home and the landscaping, they will give it the benefit of a doubt and inspect the inside.  If they don’t like what they see initially, the inside look may be just out of courtesy to the Seller.  Home buyers purchase the landscaping, too.  There is curb appeal in the trees, flower beds, shrubbery, and the lawn.  Is the landscaping sustainable?  Will it still be around when they deci

It wasn't very far, and she was fine, but still. I made her fall. And I meant to do it. I have no idea why. It was just momentary impulse of meanness, acted upon. And I'm still shamed by it.The other day someone asked me whether there were any stories that I wouldn't share about Wonderbaby and I said, oh of course

Which brings us to six questions that we hear quite frequently, or what I like to refer to as "The Six Sacred Trees of Internet Marketing." Like ancient, magical trees of yore, these questions have remained shrouded in mystery throughout the past few years. The purpose of this post is to unveil their mysteries to you, the public. So let's begin. "What in the heck is Internet marketing?" would have to be the most commonly asked question (although I personally have enjoyed the more direct variant: "What do you guys do, anyway?"), so tha

Cat Trees - Keeping Cat Fur Off Your Furniture
If you are sick of your cat crawling along your furniture and leaving tufts of fur all over the place, you may need to invest in cat trees. Cat trees are usually multi-level platforms that cats can climb on or play on. Generally, they are made of wood and other sturdy materials and are covered in heavy-duty carpet. Some have portions wrapped in sisal rope, to act as scratching posts as well as cat trees to climb and perch on. Many consider cat trees a great way for an active cat to have his or her own play area. Being able to crawl through tunnels, into a hole, or climb up the levels of cat trees often keeps kittens entertained. It also makes many cats happy to have a perch that is high off the ground where they can curl up, or watch the world below. But, in addition to being just a nice p

      Fallen Trees
I watch from the window, lump in my throat. With the breeze through the screen comes the sound of groaning trunk, creaking limbs. Equipment whirring loudly. And then she falls, swaying gracefully at first; until, landing with the suddenness of death, she is prone on the soft ground from which she emerged tall and proud only moments before. They are taking away my trees. Soon the language of sunset shimmering through leaves in the summertime will be silenced. The diaphanous refracted light spilling out between naked branches in the winter, erased. Gone will be the quiet musings of the topography I so love. No more conversations with red-tailed hawks or prancing deer. These dialogs will be stilled by progress. By the work of the hand of man. Instead, when I look out my back door,

I was experimenting with taking moon photos, and tried out this framing technique with the palm trees silhouetted against the twilight sky, and the fronds reaching from the top of the picture downwards to the moon. I think it turned out fairly well, although the moon is quite small due to the minute 3x zoom offered by the Kodak camera. You can just see the colours of the setting sun reflecting off the top of the palm trees.Original URL: -twilight.htmlThis Sky Watch Friday photo taken with the Kodak C330 digital camera. Money grows on trees
Abundance is our natural state of beingAbundance is not a struggle. You don’t have to fight to be rich, to be happy, to be successful, to have great relationships… It’s not as if there’s a limited resource and we all have to fight to get our piece of it. There’s abundance for everyone, and there always has been. Money really does grow on trees. We live in the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey. But some of us are starving to death because we can’t see what’s in front of our eyes. Here’s a story which I recall reading in Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now.There’s a beggar sitting on an old wooden box, and he’s been sitting there for years – he sits on it on the street and begs for money. One day someone walks past and tells the old beggar that he has

Yet, despite doing it all right on paper, you still find yourself occasionally behind the largest tree on the course of standing in knee-deep grass of the course sand trap. Think about it, though. If the golf course was smooth with no sand, water or bunkers, golfing would soon become boring for even the most committed golfer. Obstacles make the game challenging and a far better game. You can learn to appreciate these traps much more once you know how to get out of the situations they cause for golf players. You have a couple options when you find your golf ball hiding behind a large tree. Obviously, one option is to try to bore a hole through the

      Bonsai the Amazing Dwarf Trees
WE HAD come some thirty miles from the city of São Paulo to see what is known to the Japanese as “bonsai.” Over cups of tea brought to us by the grower’s wife, we expressed surprise when he told us that some of his four hundred dwarf trees were thirty years old. On one long table there were some small pines that had the windswept look of old age. On other shelves stood out single trees in vessels of shallow depth. Their description seemed appropriate, “Lone tree in plain country.” Others looked withered, with drooping branches, evidently overhanging an imaginary cliff. Two others grew out of the same stump; “the twins” they were called. Another one had high exposed roots, clinging for dear life to a riverside where the water had almost worn away the soil, or so it seemed. Wi

      Trees Swallowing Things.
Trees aren't very good at getting out of the way, so they've adapted to simply swallow things when it becomes necessary. About thirty years ago in Cambre, a small village in the northwest of Spain what started as displaying of sign on trees to indicate a taxi stand was nearby, now these very signs have become a part of the trees. Another sign which became part of the tree.It appears this oak tree is eating this piece of a boat. This tree seems to swallow the temple. Here is another one of those where the sign is eaten by the tree, one other thing to be noted is what' s written on this sign. Now you got a lights grown right into the tree & what you just need to do is plug them in & you got a live tree. Now this bike seems to be here from a very long time & if ever the owner of the motorcycle
