I spent far too much time fiddling around with some new php code that I might incorporate into my website. So here I am, getting close to midnight and having to bang something out in a hurry.
Most of the fruit trees around here are pretty young. Fashions change pretty fast and it isn't at all unusual to see whole orchards of apparently healthy trees ripped up and new trees planted in their place. A new variety may be more in demand than the old one, or maybe they just travel better, never mind the taste. So it is quite unusual to see a well-tended orchard of old trees like this one.This is a subject that would probably lend itself to treatment with oils much more readily than pencil or watercolour, but I seem to be setting myself a lot of challenges lately.

The “Air Tree” pavilion is to be built from recycled materials and will be 100% energy self-sufficient. The “tree,” using photo-voltaic cells, produces a substantial amount of energy, which is then sold back to the local electric companies, the profits being used for maintenance of the structure. Sen. Collins waives two cents at war critics, and BDN acts like she's given them a dollar.Wednesday's BDN editorial is better than the paper's first article touting the junior senator's proposed ban on Iraq reconstruction spending: The piece acknowledges that the plan is almost purely symbolic. But it still errs in characterizing the proposal as genuine, meaningful progress.Notably, it fails to mention that there is no new funding in the pipeline for Iraq reconstruction--at least none that I've been able to find. So prohibiting such expenditure is either an empty gesture, or a suggestion that the President can't be trusted not to shift US military funds to Iraq reconstruction projects.(Of course, if Collins thinks the latter is the case, and that the President is fundamentally untrustworth
I guess the only thing left of Men in Trees is another broken home courtesy of uber-skank Anne Heche. While Anne's real life coupling with co-star James Tupper will only last until she discovers her true calling as a transgender heart breaker, I am going to miss the quirky rom-com, which the powers that be at ABC never gave a chance:It has aired on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, at various times, over the course of two seasons, and then there were two long hiatus—one to make room for October Road, and then the writer's strike. Only an inane reality show could have survived that kind of bumping. At first, I thought I was the only dope in the country that was watching the tale of the NYC author/ relationship coach who, on the rebound from a two timing fiance, was tickled to find herse

It is also equally frustrating to see a lawn where no consideration has been given for mature plant and tree size. The landscape looks more like a deformed jungle with half [...]

I love orchids but have never been able to maintain them. I either overkill them with love, care, and water, or it was just too darn cold in Philadelphia. The climate in Turks & Caicos, however, being all tropical, is perfect for orchids.My husband started a program of orchid preservation and growth here on Parrot Cay involving tying the plants to trees around the property to allow them to root and bloom with plenty of natural sun and water. Here you see two plants behind the spa that just bloomed, one red & one yellow. Aren't they great? We all know about the basic Bonsai gardening, but that's just the beginning. To really own a masterpiece Bonsai, one must require good styling skills. Styling in Bonsai trees can be broadly categorized according to the number of trunks they the tree has. This can be divided to single trunk and multiple trunks. Single trunk styling The single trunk styling in Bonsai can be further classified into four types namely, Formal upright, Slanting, Cascade, and Twisted style. Formal upright bonsai gardening The formal upright style is also called the Chokkan style. This style is adopted only by the experienced Bonsai artists. If you are a beginner you are advised not to go for this style. The Chokkan style is considered as the most complex style of Bonsai trees. Tachiki, Hokidachi, Sabamiki, Sarami
An inside bonsai tree is going to be a great looking creature. They are going to be formal plants that sit up and are going to be different from anything else that you have ever seen. You will notice that you are going to love the way that these creations look and how they make you feel as well. The formal bonsai inside tree is going to be known by the trunk and the tree branches that taper off and look unique. The informal look is the one that will bend and curve over slightly and will be the one that you see the most of. You will notice that many people have these inside bonsai trees in their homes. They are going to be the most popular tree that you see. The cascade and semi cascade inside bonsai trees are going to be the molded trees that will grow over water and on the side of mountai
Cats love cat trees. What isn't there to love about them? Cat's love to climb, cat trees are a perfect place to do that with many of them having a number of levels for a cat to climb to before being at the top of the proverbial world and looking down at any animals below, tail wagging, ready to pounce. Cat nature is also to scratch. Most cat trees are made of materials like carpet and sisal rope that are just begging to be scratched and will hold up when your cat obliges and digs his nails in. Cats love to play hide and seek. Many cat trees have various places to crawl in and out of on the levels of the tree. This means cats can crawl through these spaces as they hunt their next toy target. Deciding to buy cat trees should be a relative no-brainer if you own a feline. The only thing to kno
I stumbled across an interesting piece of news on CNETnews.com. Michael Kanellos had written about vanishing ink to help in the recycling of paper. It was too good an invitation to ignore and I started digging for information on this topic. Xerox Research Centre and Palo Alto Research Center Inc. (PARC) have come up with a concept to make the printed words and images last only a day, so that the paper can be used again and again. They say that the technology is still in a preliminary state. This piece of paper is blank, but about eight hours ago it said,'Reusable Paper. Xerox Parc Inside Innovation at Xerox' in block purple letters(Credit: Michael Kanellos/CNET Networks) Xerox has filed for patents on the technology, which it calls "erasable paper." Meanwhile, PARC are r

Cape Town - The City of Cape Town's Parks Department celebrated Freedom Day in a different way this year when it honoured the living freemen of the city and planted trees that would leave a legacy for future generations.

As you might imagine from the previous post, I was feeling a little glum on Saturday night. Until, that is, Ginney called me up and invited me to a party Grassman was having. :) I was very cheered up. Who needs stupid Sc_tch boys when you have loyal friends like Ginney! It was exactly what I needed. Grassman drove to my house with Ginney, picked me up, paid me the money he owed me (yay, and probably thanks to Ginney nagging him on my behalf - he's very good at looking out for me, the dear) and took me to his house. The party was very slow to start. I was there for an hour before everybody was supposed to come. They fed me chops and we just chatted a bit. It wasn't until about ten or eleven that things started getting a little more interesting with the guests. I met one young man, nineteen,

CLICK HERE to enlargeFor about 2 weeks now since the warm, sunny weather has just started here in Michigan where the unpredictable weather is feasible. A while ago, I noticed some of the trees and plants are totally in bloomed now, after a few days ago where you could just see some of the tree buds and tiny plants bloomed and now, they were all kicking out! Wow! I never know that some trees leaves are blooming with white leaves prior to be a green one. And so, I went to take some photos of them. And just a couple of days ago, I saw some tiny flowers, just like a wild flowers in our backyard were perfectly bloomed already, wow! I am so excited with the summer time soon, too!CLICK HERE to enlargeThose photos are in front of our house.
As all of us know, just recently (22nd April), we celebrated World'd Earth Day. I personally think it's a special day for us to honor- what more is precious if not the mother earth we are living on? Special days like these are something for us to remember and the reason behind celebrating such day is also something we should think upon. In regards to honor this special day, Dizzywood- a great and fun virtual world for kids (especially from 8 to 12 years old) has announced a special in-world event! Curious to know more? :) Here comes... We are all aware of the destruction men has caused especially in preserving the natural forests of the earth. Here and there, we hear news about trees are being cut down, hills destroyed and many more destruction by people who have no mercy to mother nature.
You know the old saying: “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” You might have thought of that more than once as Uncle Sam just finisihed (hopefully) paying his annual visit. But what if it did? Would everybody be rich and well taken care of due to readily available money? Or would we still [...]
While the origins of how to create and nurture a bonsai tree come from China the actual name of these potted trees comes from Japan, in fact the word bonsai refers to a small potted tree. The cultivation of such beautiful trees was actually started by wealthy Chinese people who lived during the Han Dynasty which was famous because it lasted for about 400 years in many of the arts flourished during this period. The Art of miniaturizing this beautiful trees was passed on from generation to generation and continued in other countries such as Korea, Japan and Vietnam. The process of miniaturizing these plans is actually very intricate due to the fact that they are not naturally small, in other words the seeds and plants used to create bonsai trees are not genetically dwarf, instead their size
The house is surrounded by olives trees. And we are lucky. Because, you see, there has been a massacre. It happened in the 1980s. A terrible drought took place in Morocco. The watermelons, the zucchinis, the wheat that used to grow in the fields couldn’t grow anymore. People began to flee the countryside to live in the cities. Fez, Meknes, and Casablanca, gained tens of thousands of inhabitants. Those who stayed in the country had to find a way to eat. Their fields were dry. No water, no wheat, no watermelons, no zucchinis. So they cut up their trees, to sell the wood. Their nourishing trees, their olives trees. It probably was very sad. The hills, which were covered with trees, became all empty. But the trees continue to feed the people. From breakfast to dinner, the trees are in the

These daily paintings and drawings serve a dual purpose for me. They are partly to provide exercises in still-life that will ultimately improve my technique. The other purpose though is to work out compositions and ideas, with a view to one day creating larger works. Most of my weekday pencil studies fall into the latter category. For years I have been driving around the Region seeing things that I think might make a good painting, but I rarely do anything about it. Now I have dozens of thumbnails which I can study on the computer and decide which ones work best. All I have to is find some time to do some larger paintings!

On Sunday my son and I planted three lilac trees for my wife. She loves lilac trees and we've been trying to decide what to plant along the west side of the house. That side of the house has two retaining walls the step the land along the "walkout" basement.The lilac trees we bought are about 36 inches tall with a root ball about 10 inches in diameter. The directions recommend a hole about 2 to 3 times larger than the root ball. Our lot is VERY sandy, in fact there is about 5 inches or so of loam on top of what I call beach sand. The good thing about this is lilacs like a well drained soil. So, we dug the holes and then filled the bottom with some good loam.Lilac trees grow best in a soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Unfortunately our soil has a pH of about 5.3 (see previous post on soil

When I was about seven years old, I hurt another child. I'd like to say that I didn't mean to, that it was an accident, but it wasn't, not really.It was the kind of thing that happens in an instant: there was a small group of us climbing trees in the woods behind our houses, and I was in a higher branch, and this girl grabbed for my hand to pull herself up to my branch and I just let my hand go slack so that her hand slipped away and she fell and she hit the ground and she cried. It wasn't very far, and she was fine, but still. I made her fall. And I meant to do it. I have no idea why. It was just momentary impulse of meanness, acted upon. And I'm still shamed by it.The other day someone asked me whether there were any stories that I wouldn't share about Wonderbaby and I said, oh of course
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

In our previous articles, we've talked about the present state of the market and how to defeat and/or offset it by using a few wily marketing techniques. So what's your next line of defense as a business owner? Why, a little self-education, of course!
Which brings us to six questions that we hear quite frequently, or what I like to refer to as "The Six Sacred Trees of Internet Marketing." Like ancient, magical trees of yore, these questions have remained shrouded in mystery throughout the past few years. The purpose of this post is to unveil their mysteries to you, the public.
So let's begin. "What in the heck is Internet marketing?" would have to be the most commonly asked question (although I personally have enjoyed the more direct variant: "What do you guys do, anyway?"), so tha

If you are sick of your cat crawling along your furniture and leaving tufts of fur all over the place, you may need to invest in cat trees. Cat trees are usually multi-level platforms that cats can climb on or play on. Generally, they are made of wood and other sturdy materials and are covered in heavy-duty carpet. Some have portions wrapped in sisal rope, to act as scratching posts as well as cat trees to climb and perch on. Many consider cat trees a great way for an active cat to have his or her own play area. Being able to crawl through tunnels, into a hole, or climb up the levels of cat trees often keeps kittens entertained. It also makes many cats happy to have a perch that is high off the ground where they can curl up, or watch the world below. But, in addition to being just a nice p

The Nature Conservancy has launched a campaign to support reforestation of the Atlantic Forests in Brazil, where they are planting one billion trees on 2.5 million acres of deforested land by 2015. The Nature Conservancy wants to connect 12 million acres of forest corridors, remove 10 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere annually, protect watersheds serving 70 million people and create 20,000 jobs. This project has a great utility to humankind so support it and benefit from its returns.

I watch from the window, lump in my throat. With the breeze through the screen comes the sound of groaning trunk, creaking limbs. Equipment whirring loudly. And then she falls, swaying gracefully at first; until, landing with the suddenness of death, she is prone on the soft ground from which she emerged tall and proud only moments before. They are taking away my trees. Soon the language of sunset shimmering through leaves in the summertime will be silenced. The diaphanous refracted light spilling out between naked branches in the winter, erased. Gone will be the quiet musings of the topography I so love. No more conversations with red-tailed hawks or prancing deer. These dialogs will be stilled by progress. By the work of the hand of man. Instead, when I look out my back door,
Bonsai trees are diminutive and exquisite examples of larger trees. To keep them small, they spend their lives in shallow containers. Just about any type of tree can be a bonsai. Nurseries and some stores carry beginner bonsai trees, which are just waiting for you to train them into a lovely design. Prior to training a bonsai, it is essential that you understand what is about to take place. Pointers on Beginner Bonsai Trees To further develop beginner bonsai trees, some parts of the plants will need to be removed in order to create fine-looking presentations. Beginner bonsai trees have no planned shape when you first get them. Therefore, their future motifs will be entirely up to the whims of their new owners. It is possible to choose from many bonsai styles. Some of the more popular and l
Traditional hardwood flooring is more popular than ever. But with all the choices of wood out there, it is difficult for a homeowner to know where to begin. By grouping the types of hardwood species into various architectural styles, it becomes easier to sort out the wood from the trees.

"Tropical Twilight" - Moon through palm treesSky Watch Friday This is one of my older photos, taken in 2006 with the Kodak camera. I was experimenting with taking moon photos, and tried out this framing technique with the palm trees silhouetted against the twilight sky, and the fronds reaching from the top of the picture downwards to the moon. I think it turned out fairly well, although the moon is quite small due to the minute 3x zoom offered by the Kodak camera.You can just see the colours of the setting sun reflecting off the top of the palm trees.Original URL: -twilight.htmlThis Sky Watch Friday photo taken with the Kodak C330 digital camera.

Abundance is our natural state of beingAbundance is not a struggle. You don’t have to fight to be rich, to be happy, to be successful, to have great relationships… It’s not as if there’s a limited resource and we all have to fight to get our piece of it. There’s abundance for everyone, and there always has been. Money really does grow on trees. We live in the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey. But some of us are starving to death because we can’t see what’s in front of our eyes.Here’s a story which I recall reading in Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now.There’s a beggar sitting on an old wooden box, and he’s been sitting there for years – he sits on it on the street and begs for money. One day someone walks past and tells the old beggar that he has
A golfer's nightmare - You have somehow eliminated the slice you have been struggling with, you have the perfect swing and the perfect stance. Yet, despite doing it all right on paper, you still find yourself occasionally behind the largest tree on the course of standing in knee-deep grass of the course sand trap. Think about it, though. If the golf course was smooth with no sand, water or bunkers, golfing would soon become boring for even the most committed golfer. Obstacles make the game challenging and a far better game. You can learn to appreciate these traps much more once you know how to get out of the situations they cause for golf players. You have a couple options when you find your golf ball hiding behind a large tree. Obviously, one option is to try to bore a hole through the

WE HAD come some thirty miles from the city of São Paulo to see what is known to the Japanese as “bonsai.” Over cups of tea brought to us by the grower’s wife, we expressed surprise when he told us that some of his four hundred dwarf trees were thirty years old. On one long table there were some small pines that had the windswept look of old age. On other shelves stood out single trees in vessels of shallow depth. Their description seemed appropriate, “Lone tree in plain country.” Others looked withered, with drooping branches, evidently overhanging an imaginary cliff. Two others grew out of the same stump; “the twins” they were called. Another one had high exposed roots, clinging for dear life to a riverside where the water had almost worn away the soil, or so it seemed. Wi
This is my compilation of Dead Trees for the year 2008. The books I’ve finished reading this year. This is a follow up to my previous post, Dead Trees: A Book List for 2007. Hopefully I’ll get more reading done this year, seems there’s never enough time.

Trees aren't very good at getting out of the way, so they've adapted to simply swallow things when it becomes necessary. About thirty years ago in Cambre, a small village in the northwest of Spain what started as displaying of sign on trees to indicate a taxi stand was nearby, now these very signs have become a part of the trees. Another sign which became part of the tree.It appears this oak tree is eating this piece of a boat. This tree seems to swallow the temple.Here is another one of those where the sign is eaten by the tree, one other thing to be noted is what' s written on this sign. Now you got a lights grown right into the tree & what you just need to do is plug them in & you got a live tree. Now this bike seems to be here from a very long time & if ever the owner of the motorcycle
