Keep Fido Happy When Travelling by Air If traveling by air take your dog out for a good exercise 30 minutes before you leave for the airport. When you get to the airport take your dog and let it go to the bathroom. If your dog is going in the cabin with you bring a few icecubes in a bag and let the dog eat them every few hours. Bring a blanket of some sort to put over the bag (I think Sherpa is the best kind) when getting on and off the plane so the dog can't see out and get scared. If your dog is going in cargo and the flight is under 3 hours, put a bowl of frozen water in the kennel so the dog can drink it without worrying about it spilling. By: Paulina T.

      Travelling to Mars
While spirit mediums and trance channellers come and go, there has never been anyone else quite like Catherine Elise Muller (more commonly known as Helene Smith). Born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1861, Catherine`s father was a Hungarian merchant with a talent for learning languages and her mother was prone to seeing ``visions``. From an early age, Catherine had a vivid imagination and extremely intense daydreams. She would tell her parents of her visions of brightly coloured landscapes, bizarre images, and bright lights and openly speculated about being a changeling. It was in 1891 that she was first introduced to Spiritualism and quickly showed a remarkable talent for automatic writing. She also showed a knack for mediumship and communicated with different spirits (including the ghost of Victor Hugo). Table-tipping, spirit writing, clairvoyance, Catherine did it all. Her spirit guide, Count Cagliostro (more commonly known as ``Leopold``) acted through her body and she claimed not to re

      Travelling to Spain
I have always been impressed with the south of Spain (Andalusia) the Arab influence on architecture there are breath taking.During our 2006 trip, I was very impressed with the Basque Region, amazing food, mountains, ocean beaches and hill top walled villages (like Laguardia) can be found within its borders. The north and east of Spain has its own special appeal. The north, central and north east of Spain, in the areas of Castile and Aragon are where the "Catholic Monarchs", Isabel the 1st and Fernando the 2nd of Aragon, ruled and engaged in the "Reconquest of Spain".The east of Spain holds the modernistic architecture of Barcelona, the ultra modern architecture of Valencia and the upcoming community of Zaragoza, not to mention numerous walled cities that retain much of their middle age character. My top recommendation for touring Spain is, do not be in a rush.Spain is best experienced slowly and as much as possible, try to match your activity to the life rhythms of the natives. Travelling thru the smog....
I've just done the very Australian thing of relocating to London for 9 months, so as I sit here in a pub that's over 200 years old, yet which has a wireless hotspot, and as I try not to convert pounds into dollars, I would like to reflect on my stop-over in Hong Kong. I have been to Hong Kong before, and I love it. The food, the people, the food, did I mention the food? But this time I was confronted by one of the more misfortunate aspects of developed cities, that of smog. The smog was so bad that visibility was down to 8 kilometres. The words "Hong Kong" translate to "Fragrant Harbour", and this is possibly an apt description, even if the fragrance one smells is not necessarily a nice one. Most of blame falls with Hong Kong's neighbouring Guangdong Province in China, and its coal-burning factories and power plants. This region pumps out about 690,000 tons of sulphur dioxide into the air each year, compared with Hong Kong's 80,000. According to the World Health Organisation, China h

      Travelling to France
I like to travel.  I have never been to Europe and have been looking for places to visit for my next vacation.  One of the countries I know I want to see is France. I usually check the web during the planning stages of any trip. If I need France accomodations I will hit the web and see what places are available and the cost. I also like to read reviews of people that have stayed there. Sometimes you have to take them with a grain of salt but overall I find them helpful. When I go on the trip I always make sure I have a pocket travel guide. There are plenty to choose from so I know I will have a France travel guide with me too. The movie Eurotrip mentions Frommers a lot. Movies don’t steer you wrong so that might be a good one to look at. Planning the trip is usually one of my favorite things to do. It builds anticipation for the trip and gives yo something to do while you count the days down to your next vacation.

      Travelling in Asia
When one speaks of Asia, one is most inclined to imagine the myriads of different people that exist in Asia since Asia is ever so huge. India, China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Phillipines, the list goes on. Tourists from Europe and countries in the West love to come to Asia simply because there's just so many different cultures to experience and appreciate. Even in one country you can have so many different, shall I call it, sub-cultures that has created different languages and different foods, etc.Asian themselves love to travel wihin Asia, and I've come across some very interesting and hilarious travel stories in Asia, thanks to this great mixture of so many different cultures. I've got friends from Denmark and Australia who have traveled quite extensively in South East Asia for the last couple of years and they say, Asia is so diverse that it gets to the point of becoming uniquely strange. I'm not quite sure what they meant by that but I'll share with you

The Mishaps of Travelling via Train
Japan's train system is very efficient unlike in the Philippines. Everyday, I consume about 3 hours of back-and-forth train ride going to the office and back to my home in Kunitachi. I wake up around 6:00am and leave the house not later than 7:30 am. Well, here is the taxing part, the chaos inside the train. From Kunitachi to Shinjuku, I take the Chuo Line, which is colored orange and to which it came from Toyoda, a further city to the west of Tokyo. When the train arrives in Kunitachi, you don't have a choice but to stand and wait for someone to get off and take their place, which in turn, rarely happens. If it happens, he/she gets off in Shinjuku, which the station I also have my norikaemasu/乗り換えます (change ride/trains). Friday last week, along Mitaka City, the conductor of the train suddenly made the train stop. All of the passengers inside, including me were like pins in a bowling game. Strike!!! During the off season tourists visit Chamonix to enjoy the beautiful scenery, hiking and planning ascents of Mount Blanc. The Geography of ChamonixThe mountain resort Chamonix Mont Blanc is located at 45degrees North (longitude) and 6 degrees East (latitude). The main valley in this resort runs from the northeast to the southwest where it rises significantly in Le Tour. The famous Aiguilles Rouges is located on the opposite side of Mont Blanc in the northwest. Al

      Travelling With Children
My daughter who has not long turned 2 is a world wide traveller.  She was conceived in China, born in Australia and lived in Australia, Canada, China and now Australia all before she has reached 2 and a half.  And for us, the parents of a travelling baby, it meant that international flying would never quite be the same again! As a non-parenting adult, I eyed the babies and children suspiciously on all the planes I boarded.  Now I look sympathetically at the parents struggling with settling babies and trying to deal with interrupted sleeping and feeding patterns! The one tip I can without a doubt offer is the Girl Guide Motto of “Be Prepared”.  Your hand luggage will no longer just contain a few must have items for you like your moisturiser and lip balm, the list of contents will now read more like your weekly shopping list.  And I say this not to frighten you but just to enlighten you of the fact that once the flight is up in the air - there is no getting off until it

      travelling companion of the earth
Fifty years ago, on the 4th October, the first Russian Sputnik was launched and marked the start of the space race. Firing a silver beachball with four antenna into space led to America then galvanising the Apollo program to get Neil Armstrong and friends on the moon just 12 years later. Sputnik Zemlyi helped give a name to the beatnik generation and heralded the Americans and Russians doing amazing things with relatively ancient high-technology - old space capsules are filled with relays and electro-mechanical componentry. Of course, part of the agenda of sputnik was Russia's attempts to build ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missiles) and the sputnik was a first attempt to get a payload into orbit. The agenda of both superpowers continued to be around advanced weaponry and the Americans built the halls at Canaveral big enough so that rockets could be assembled ready to fly rather than having to be upturned and then fuelled (which could take more than a day). So using today's custom

      Travelling To Europe
There are always two countries that you must not missed out when you travel to Europe. They are Germany and Austria. First up - Let me introduce you to Germany. Being the previous host of the FIFA World Cup Germany 2006, they have been a popular tourist destination since then and they are famous for their beers, history and entertaining city life! Their capital will be Berlin and incredibly, a hotel suite in one of the hotels in Berlin is not expensive at all. During your stay there, I am sure that there will lots and lots of wonderful night life activities waiting for you downstairs and leaving your room in one of the hotels in Berlin will be your frequent chore.Next up, Austria. Austria with their capital, Vienna, is one of the most cultural rich country in the world and of course, hotels in Vienna is not the thing for you to worry of. For your pleasure, most of the people there speak English and you will not need to scare of any communication problems when you are asking for hotels

It all began when Pearl was surfing the net to find out about the Indonesian drama series - Hikmah 1 as she wanted to find out the details of the hit series that had gotten most Singaporean Suria watchers glued on their TV set to follow the mishap of Ana. It was then when she bump to a blog Bila Pena Menari and a blogger named Xis and deviated her search and started reading the blog. Her find was shared with Pato and from there other blogs were found - Tepak Sireh, The Honourable Shah (now Scusi! Sono Smarrito) and Pencinta Merah. They were the early bloggers that had then expanded us to other blogs. We were happy to just reading other people blogs at that point. Our cousin, Wati was already blogging for her son and so does Pearl's younger cousins. We had couple of other blogs that we just love reading only. For us, blogging were the last thing on our mind. How is travelling back in time possible?
There is a new concept that could possibly allow future generations to travel into the past. How? Well there are quite a few theories out there, all of them impractical. What’s different about this new concept? Well, it doesn’t require theoretical forms of matter to make it work. Nevertheless, the new concept requires a technology more advanced than ours so…it’s still impractical. What’s the summary of the concept? Well, it is knows that matter bends space and time. Therefore the idea would be to bend space/time (currently a seen as a line) so much that it will turn back on themeselves (forming a circle). For this though, the bending needs to be very strong and it would require a stronger force to do it. What I also find interesting about this concept is that if a time machine will be invented that will use the space/time bending theory, then no one from the future will be able to travel back to a time before the machine was invented. WHy? Because when th

Hello!  For those who know me, I got out of Dodge last week (which rarely happens) and went someplace I’ve never been before.  First of all, I LOVE seeing new places – Here are a few clues: It was a blast!  I was in Austin, Texas!  I will tell you, the next time I visit Austin, I hope it’s not in the summertime, but we had a wonderful time.  I was at a Keller Williams Agent conference and wow… what a wonderful company I work for!  I was so impressed with the quality of the information, the quality of the people, etc…  Met some new friends:  Derek and Mariana Wagner from Colorado Springs, CO. And some old friends… this happens to be me with my Dad, who’s a Team Leader for a Keller Williams Market Center in North Atlanta – why not keep things all in the family! Anyway, I’m glad to be back to implement some of the wonderful things I learned in Austin.  Keller Williams ROCKS and I’m so proud to be a part of this amazing organization! Happy Wednesday Jenni

Travelling Days and Places to Stay
I used to travel quite a lot while I was still studying overseas in the UK. During most of the summer breaks I'd be planning ahead with my mates on the next venue to visit or venture. I've been to Turkey (Ankara and Istanbul), quite fun that was. Amsterdam was cool. Plus some others, mostly Europe. Travel was mostly done using trains which, at the time and probably still is, the most cost-efficient means to travel across the European continent. You travel for long hours most days, and if you haven't a posse of fun individuals to travel with, you'd get bored pretty quickly. When you travel as a student, most of the time you only spend on travel fares, food and the occasional lodging (if you don't end up sleeping at the train station). It's got to be cheap, as cheap as the word goes. I never indulged in shopping for souveniers because I well couldn't afford to. It would be good to go visit places where shopping is relatively cheap.I've never remembered staying in a, should I say,

The Road From Vungtau To Dalat - Travelling By Road In Vietnam
By Christopher RoseWe were driving around probably not too sure where to go. We must have been heading to Saigon when I saw this sign post on the right saying Dalat. I had heard the name. It was an old French hill station far to the north of Saigon. It had the good reputation of an agreeable place to go. It brought to mind tales of one of the old British hill stations of the RAJ. Simla? Anyway my curiosity was roused and I asked PB if she had been there and she said no. I turned right and off we went.We were able to come to these decisions without any discussion which was good. On the other hand we didn't know how far it was. It certainly wasn't near. We didn't know what the road was like. I am not giving distances. I would have to check them on a map. I had no map then. Anyway even with a map I would not have been much better off. A detailed military map was the last thing one wanted to be caught with and anything else was worse than useless. The conditions on some of the roads wer

      Travelling with the Dog
Some animals will adjust when placed in alternate accommodation over the holidays, but not my family dog. When we headed off for our annual holiday we placed him in what we thought was a very good boarding kennel but came back to find he had missed us all so much he had lost all his hair. The vet told us it was hormonal but it came back quickly once he was part of the family again and getting his usual love and attention. It wasn’t just about getting love with `Tinky’ he gave it back. He was the one who seemed to understand when I was recovering from major surgery. He came and sat with me and was somehow extra attentive as if he really understood how horrible it all was. Then there was time my mother visited and fell over and was really distressed. She claimed everyone else was too busy to notice but not Tinky. Somehow he knew and jumped in through a window and stayed with her till help arrived. You can see why we all love our sensitive, loving but highly needy dog, so wha

Thus reaching our 100th post took us nearly 11 months to reach! And rather than reminiscing the start of the blog for this post, we've decided to share another addition to this blog.On the 100th post a new segment is born - "the travelling ducks" @ Design Hotels. This will feature the hotels that we visited and stayed and reviewed. You might already get such coverage at many other blogs or on travel channels on cable, however this is abit more personal. From the eyes of Pato & Pearl, we share our experience and thoughts from the eyes of a designer as well as from the eyes of a common traveller. Different expectation, different perspective. The idea was created when Pearl had gotten a book that features all the Design Hotels around the world and thus, the inspiration of this addition came about which hopefu

It is a good idea to plan your trip to the South of France for early September to avoid the madness of the Cannes film festival in May, and the sweltering heat and the crowded coastal highways that besiege vacationers in July and August. As the high season ends, the hoards clear out and you can truly appreciate the charm of these classy seaside resorts.

The Road from Saigon Memories of Travelling in Vietnam
By Christopher RoseI forget why I was in Saigon. I imagine it was to see some girl I'd met before I was posted to Baria. I must have stayed overnight and had to get back that evening to be ready for duty the next day. It was too late to get a flight so I did the obvious thing and took a taxi. There were cars with chauffeurs one could hire. Big powerful American cars. There were French cars with seats for eight or ten people where one could buy a place. But I had only been in the country a month or two and I didn't know this. So I took a Saigon taxi, a venerable old Renault 4cv. The driver had vaguely heard of Vungtau and as I offered a lot of money he agreed to take me.All went well down the Bien Hoa highway. It had theoreticaly three lanes in either direction. Or at least I think it did because in practise the concept of lanes was alien to the Vietnamese mind. Let's just say that there were two flows of traffic going in opposite directions. Flows made up of every conceivable type o

Use Hostel Accommodation If Travelling On A Budget
You might think of hostelling as something that college students do while traveling through Europe for the summer. However, hostelling is not just for the college crowd anymore, and now includes people of all ages and backgrounds. If you are a traveler on a budget, staying at a hostel can be an adventure that will add to your travel experience. Staying in a hostel will not be everyone’s cup of tea, and many travelers would prefer to spend the money on a traditional hotel. Hostel traveling is best suited to those traveling alone, or to young people traveling in groups. Hostels are not really recommended for families traveling with young children. In fact, many hostels do not accept children under a certain age. (more…) Share This
