Protecting Yourself From Suspicionless Searches While Traveling
From: Electronic Frontier Foundation   The Ninth Circuit's recent ruling (pdf) in United States v. Arnold allows border patrol agents to search your laptop or other digital device without limitation when you are entering the country. EFF and many civil liberties, travelers' rights, immigration advocacy and professional organizations are concerned that unfettered laptop searches endanger trade secrets, attorney-client communications, and other private information. These groups have signed a letter asking Congress to hold hearings to find out what protocol, if any, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) follows in searching digital devices and copying, storing and using travelers' data. The letter also asks Congress to pass legislation protecting travelers' laptops and smart p

You realize that they were never really yours and that those things you do own -- your heart, faith, purpose and love -- are the things that no one person or circumstance can take away from you.An even funnier thing happens when you decide to let go of your attachment to place. You realize that as a spiritual being on a human journey, being rooted anywhere is just a temporary illusion. The most important anchor you have is yourself.I'm getting a divorce and having an affair all at once -- separating from places, people and things that no longer serve me and falling in love with all that truly matters. Traveling With Anxiety- Trip #3
photo by RoadsidepicturesThis weekend I am going on a trip to Las Vegas with my husband and some friends. What a fun thing to do right? However I have had some minor anticipatory anxiety worrying about it this week since the last two trips I went on was either an anxiety nightmare, or at least had some smaller setbacks.Following my true natural instincts I procrastinated all preparation for the trip until the afternoon before we leave. This is because then I wouldn't have to think about it and worry more than I need to. Not very smart after all because now I am a little overwhelmed with everything I have to do and that is stressing me out.So I thought I would take my lunch hour and go over some previous posts I have written to help me be more prepared. Hawaii I didn't prepare at all becaus

THE IN SILENT TRAVELING TALES: LE SILENTI INDAGINI DELL'ISPETTORE MUTO

      Traveling Alone in Bangkok
I decided it would be a good idea to spend a couple of days in Bangkok--a city with an estimated population of 15-20 million--before I leave for China. Although I know a couple of people in Bangkok, I spent the majority of the time exploring by myself. If I had to do things again, I would make sure that my first trip to Bangkok was with at least one other people. However, the trip wasn't all bad--just a little daunting. I was able to familiarize myself with the public modes of transportation--the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) and the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT).On my first day, I went to the Grande Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. However, I decided just to walk around the grounds and not to go inside the gates because the price was 250 Baht (I thought I was suppose to get a discount

We visited the Cotton Gin Museum, home of the oldest cotton gin still in operation. One interesting fact learned was that cotton comprises 75 percent of our U.S. paper money. If in the area, a fun event coming April 18-20 is the Burton Cotton Gin Festival, which will include a parade, cotton gin tours, antique tractors, auctions, and entertainment. We stopped in at Henry's Grocery to grab a snack. We asked how old it was and got the reply "We don't know, but it's old." It appeared to date to at least the early 1920s. In our journeys we'll be exploring more general stores around

Travel and Entertainment Costs Traveling High
A close cousin to credit card costs is travel and entertainment expenses.  You could be tight on your costs at home or in the field offices.  But once people are on the road, it is loosen the wallet.  It can feel like a vacation to your people.  They spend on things they would not normally.  Or they may treat it as a cost of doing business.   They are sacrificing by being out of town.  So why not splurge a little as a reward?   You may agree.  You may want to treat people well on the road so they make the trips that they should.  But it could go overboard. There may be good intentions to travel inexpensively.  But it may not be done well.  You could think you are being tight but could be spending more than you need to w
