These groups have signed a letter asking Congress to hold hearings to find out what protocol, if any, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) follows in searching digital devices and copying, storing and using travelers' data. The letter also asks Congress to pass legislation protecting travelers' laptops and smart p

Stay Safe While Traveling Abroadby Ashley KingNothing compares to seeing new sights and experiencing diverse cultures, but sometimes traveling abroad can carry a high price - your safety. Journeys to foreign countries can be serious business if you don't guard your safety. Keep these tips in mind the next time you board a plane for a distant land.1. If there's a possibility of really bad weather, like a hurricane, at your destination then arrange to go another time if you can. Don't take chances; you don't want to become stranded in a disaster area.2. Be aware of any security issues. Investigate the political climate in your planned destin
A spur of the moment invite a few nights ago triggered this latest installment of “Wine with Bill.” While my always gracious host cooked up a salubrious repast of pan-seared loin of pork, rigatoni Bolognese and, yes, even some vegetables, I got to work on opening a few bottles for the evening’s tasting. The focus, once again, was on the Loire but I’d brought along an interesting tie-in, an interloper from Italy. Before we get to that though, a little bubbly as an aperitif….Saumur Brut Rosé, Domaine du Vieux Pressoir NVThis was pure, simple pleasure in a glass. Boisterously pink at the core and paler at the edges. Coarse mousse and a nose like red berry zinger tea. Juicy strawberry and raspberry fruit led off, followed by a nuance of fresh herbs and a fuzzy raspberry finish

If you are traveling to Asia, you will initially want to learn a few facts about this amazing continent. First, it is so large that it occupies a quarter of the earth's land mass. Rich or poor, no one can actually afford to get ill while traveling. Planes, trains, automobiles—and the destinations they service—are full of potential health hazards. Just answering the boarding call and observing the fasten seatbelt sign raises the risk of death by deep vein thrombosis or a killer flu.

A funny thing happens when you decide to let go of all your material possessions. You realize that they were never really yours and that those things you do own -- your heart, faith, purpose and love -- are the things that no one person or circumstance can take away from you.An even funnier thing happens when you decide to let go of your attachment to place. You realize that as a spiritual being on a human journey, being rooted anywhere is just a temporary illusion. The most important anchor you have is yourself.I'm getting a divorce and having an affair all at once -- separating from places, people and things that no longer serve me and falling in love with all that truly matters. This is an interior place of peace that only exists within. It doesn't have a name. It's not on any map.
Michael decided to drag his toy microphone along while running errands Saturday morning, and it’s been in the car since. I’m debating whether to just leave it in the car and endure it up close and in person during relatively short car trips, or bring it back in the house and have relatively peaceful car rides but then risk having him play with it evening long at home. It’s this one. Makes me shudder just to look at it.This thing is made by the fine people who brought you that “mp3 player” I used to love so much. Fortunately that little delight has mysteriously disappeared. The microphone has several features, two of which are artfully annoying: 1) Grating music, and 2) a pitch adjustment. The songs themselves sound like they were arranged by Charles Ives and performed on a calliope

I decided it would be a good idea to spend a couple of days in Bangkok--a city with an estimated population of 15-20 million--before I leave for China. Although I know a couple of people in Bangkok, I spent the majority of the time exploring by myself. If I had to do things again, I would make sure that my first trip to Bangkok was with at least one other people. However, the trip wasn't all bad--just a little daunting.
