Another time Google: the Mountain View giant has just updated its Google Translate service. The great news is that Google has totally abandoned the Systran engine, extending the proprietary engine used since yesterday for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arab, Russian translation into English (and viceversa) to all the 25 available pairs of languages. Differences? Enormous! I've just tried a translation fro Italian to English: I've used the same text (from the Italian Divina Commedia, a very difficult test for a computer!!!) in Babelfish (based on Systran product) and Google Translate. Following Takeda Co’s successful launch of Bowlingual - which does the same thing for dogs - Meowlingual is due to be rolled out in November. A palm-sized electronic console is held next to the cat in question, and an interpretation of its cries and purrs is displayed on the screen. Meowlingual translates the cat’s emotion into phrases such as “I can’t stand it,” according to the Associated Press, although exact wording has not been decided. The device will be priced at 8,800 yen (about $74), less than the 14,800 yen charged for Bowlingual. Well hello again, to yet another edition of our LogoBlog Poll. In last week’s poll we asked you to vote for the designer brand, which in your opinion translates glamour, style and elegance in its logo. Fashion designer brands are a major component of the most powerful global brands. The logos used by these brands portray creativity, cut throat competition and their excellence in the fashion world. Each is an iconic identity recognized by people worldwide. Coming back to our poll, the choices we gave you were; Chanel, Hermes, Versace, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Calvin Klein. Chanel won our poll with an impressive 30% of all votes. In second and third place were Calvin Klein and Gucci with 20% and 18% votes respectively. Louis Vuitton and Versace tied for fourth place with 10% of total votes each. Hermes attained 8% of all votes and Givenchy was last place with 5% of the total votes. In an age, when products, services, and concepts are all crossing barriers due to globalization, certain ‘Global Brands’ have managed to achieve what others can only dream of. If you take a look in my right sidebar you'll see that I've implemented this as a sidebar widget. This widget is really easy to use: simply visit the Google Translator Widget page and choose the option you would like to use for your blog. There are three options available: Just the widget code, which features written links to translate into different languages.
