Additionally, environmental buzzwords or ideas like “carbon footprint” and “carbon neutrality” serve as tools that help bring abstract or intangible ideas like environmental degradation and global warming into perspective. Recently these buzzwords were voluntarily put into action in a few fishing tournaments across Florida. Some recreational fishing tournaments have taken steps to reduce their impact on the environment by practicing catch and release, raising money for charities, carpooling to tournaments and fishing with kayak. Golf Tournaments - How to Run a Tournament
By Nicholas Sy One of the most pleasant events that you can participate in is a golf tournament. It is also one of the most challenging, as a lot goes into the planning of this event that you may not be aware of. With golf being as well-liked as it is, many businesses and charities are using tournaments as a way to spike interest in their cause or in their operation. If you are in charge of planning such a tournament, remember that there are a lot of considerations to keep in mind if you intend it to be a success.Golf tournaments require a lot of planning. One of the first things you will want to do is come up with a goal or outcome that you desire to come out of pulling off a successful tournament. This can work a number of ways, but one popular way to make this happen is to come up with a theme and gather information to support that theme. Within this theme, make sure that you remain realistic with your expectations and that you stick to your assigned budget as closely as possible. On

At age 26, he became the fifth-youngest player to reach 50, and only the ninth overall in the Open Era — since 1968 — to win so many tournaments.

6 Max Sit and Go (SNG) Tournaments
Some people have asked in recent weeks about possible strategy adjustments for shorthanded SNG’s. Although they are a little more difficult to beat with robotic play, these tournaments are in my opinion far more profitable for the skilled player than their full table counterparts. The strategy changes to make really depend on the payout structure of the SNG. On Stars/FT and many other site, the payout structure is 65/35 for 1st and 2nd. This structure is a little more top-heavy than a 50/30/20 structure for a 9 or 10 player SNG meaning that ICM is less of a factor in the early game. From a concrete perspective, the value of doubling up on the first hand of a $10, 6 man 65/35 SNG is 8.60 vs. 8.44 in a 10 player and 8.25 in a 9 player SNG, corresponding to a 53.8 all-in breakeven percentage vs. 54.2 and 54.8 %. So you can play slightly looser in these tournaments, although ICM is still important. On the beautiful 50-30-20 5man structure on Rednines Poker, ICM is a huge, huge consi

Heads Up Play with Medium Stack Sizes in Sit and Go Tournaments
An always annoying situation when multi-tabling SNG’s is to get heads up with relatively deep stacks of 15 to 30 big blinds or so. Too deep to simply push or fold preflop, with these deeper stacks one must play some actual poker. This can be a real pain when one is playing several other tournaments at the same time. Paying attention to those other games, it can be hard to get a read on your opponent’s play, plus heads up hands can come several times faster than that at a full table. Fortunately even with these stack sizes, the HU confrontation at the end of a SNG should not last long. If you are playing well, you should probably be raising almost every button and reraising often against your opponent’s button raises. And with 15-30bb a single 3 bet and call usually puts both players close to all-in, or close enough to where a continuation bet commits someone on the flop. As a result heads-up play tends to be high variance, with one player often putting in all their mo

Bluffing on the Flop in Sit and Go Tournaments
A lot of players like to open limp in late position in a sit and go tournament, even when the blinds are relatively large compared to stacks (say 5-10bb or so). This is usually a donkey play, considering they could raise instead and possibly add 15-30% to their stack. Despite this, often you will find yourself in the big blind getting a free flop against these players, and one mistake that I think most people make far too often that makes their opponents’ bad play of limping correct is simply conceding the pot if they don’t flop a good hand. Of course, there are different types of players who open limp in late position short stacked in a sit and go tournament. The first group does it because they’re simply donkeys who want to play a hand. These aren’t the sort of guys you really want to bluff against, but they’re still usually going to fold trash that totally missed. The other type are the guys that play pretty tight but are afraid to push all-in before th

Ace-King is Not a Good Hand in Sit N Go Tournaments
In a cash game where the stacks are not too deep, or a multi-table tournament, usually you are happy to get it in preflop with ace king. The small probability your opponent will show up with AQ or worse combined with the low likelihood of them having AA or KK given you hold one of each means that you are usually getting enough of an overlay from the money already in the pot to make a profitable call with this hand. But in a SNG, even though the stacks are not nearly as deep, ace king is not the kind of hand that you want to get it all in with. The power of ace king is that it usually has around a 50% chance to win against most ranges, so your chance of winning combined with the chance of getting your opponent to fold makes the all-in move with this hand an excellent play. But taking coinflips, even with slight overlay, is not the way to profit in SNG tournaments. Let’s take a look at a hand in the middle stages of one such tournament: Stacks: UTG - 1350 CO - 1200 Button - 2300 SB

Monte Carlo Simulation of Multi-Table Poker Tournaments
Everybody knows that multi-table poker tournaments are different than sit and go tournaments, or even cash games. Because of the increasing blinds and top-heavy prize structure, the emphasis is on taking gambles to win the tournament, or at least final table, since that is where the money is to be made. “Go big or go home” is the old cliche. Anyway, pretty much all of the best multi-table tournament players online employ a hyper-aggressive, high-variance style based on loose steals/resteals, big bluffs, and in general pushing with small edges. What I am interested in finding out in this simulation is whether increasing variance can increase one’s dollar EV in tournaments even in the absence of any player having an edge over another. Furthermore, how much of an effect does the blind structure and number of players in the tournament have on these results? My simulation is rather crude, and I wrote it in a graphical language designed to run physics instruments, Labview,

Sit and Go Strategy Guide - Getting Started in SNG Tournaments Part 4
In the previous article I discussed default pushing ranges on the bubble of a sit and go poker tournament. But of course, normally the situation is anything but “default”. SNG tournaments are at least somewhat similar to real poker, played mostly with real people, and real people have widely varying calling ranges. And usually the stacks are anything but equal, as often someone will have a big stack and three smaller stacks will be fighting it out on the bubble. Plus, there are often five or six players left by the time the stacks get down to ten big bets each, especially in higher stakes SNG’s. The correct pushing strategy is very different in each of these cases. This article will focus on adjusting to your opponents. A common SNG situation is to have someone who calls far too much left to act far behind you. Far too much might mean calling with 20% of hands instead of 10, 50% instead of 20, etc. When facing a player like this, you have to tighten up your pushing ra

Sit and Go Strategy Guide - Getting Started in SNG Tournaments Part 3
In part 2 I discussed the basis behind the “push or fold” SNG strategy employed by all top players in the middle and late stages of a SNG tournament. But what hands should you push with? The truth is that no guide could never give an exhaustive listing of every possible situation. But what I can do is give you a “default” sort of range here, then discuss the adjustments that you need to make to these ranges based on specific factors in the SNG - such as overly loose/tight callers, short stack players about to bust out, being about to take the blind that puts you with a very short stack, and others. The following ranges all assume the following: 4 players remaining in the SNG, with your opponents all holding equal stacks of 12 times the big blind. Other players’ calling ranges are normal for a low-stakes sit and go. Blinds are not about to increase. No antes. You have a normal table image; that is, you have not been pushing excessively often in this
