Talking About Really Tough Subjects - Death, dying, illness. Why do we need to talk about that kind of thing?! There are some issues that we just don't want to talk about. Maybe we hide from them. Maybe we change the subject or avoid them. And sometimes these reactions in situations that can't be changed might be healthy. Denial and a wish not to talk can serve important purposes. And denial in the face of certain unchangeable situations may be a person's acceptable way of coping.
