Yesterday Senator McCain spoke to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the first of what will be many attempts to mend fences with his party's conservatives. Granted Tom Delay has a number of issues of his own but I have to agree with him on this point. The thought of the Iraqi Parliament taking 2 months off this summer is mind boggling. I cant even begin to think of a worse signal to send to the world and especially to the troops and the American people. A number of comments to his post tried to make hay about Delay and other Republicans attendance records but that is a red herring. There is no connection between the two. Maybe if our troops were dying while our Congress went on vacation the poster would have a point but obviously thats not the case. If they do go on vacation it will be impossible for the President to maintain even the shreds of believability he still has as pertains to the war in Iraq. Tom Delay is calling for Rosie to be fired. Now that the liberals have brought down Don Imus(another liberal), the conservatives want their turn. Rosie is on a major network and is spouting nonsense about the president knowing about 9/11 and the towers being brought down with controlled explosions. This is highly offensive to most Americans. Yet, she isn’t challenged on this. Why because she is a good liberal. If she were a conservative in the ’90’s and she talked about Bill Clinton authorising the killing of Americans in Wako or Ruby Ridge, she would not have lasted.
I don’t think she should be fired. I like to think the American people, and the market place would dictate to her employers that she be removed by not watching her show.
Part of me would revel in her firing though, I have to admit.
This is not going to come to a conclusion any time soon. Al Sharpton has said as much. He wants to keep going and bring down as many people as possible.
