A push by hardline Islamists for Indonesia to ban a "deviant" Muslim sect has ignited a battle for the soul of the world's largest Muslim-majority country.Mob violence, protests and chilling threats have formed the backdrop to pressure on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and key ministers to ban the minority Ahmadiyah sect.A decision last month by a Suharto-era state board overseeing religion recommended the sect be broken up because it believes Mohammed was not the final prophet, contradicting a central tenet of mainstream Islam.Liberals are aghast at calls to ban the sect, but the ever-cautious Yudhoyono is under pressure to appease a vocal Islamist minority. And while the official state ideology also mandates belief in one God, the country has in practice tolerated a plurality of belie
The crisis in Burma looks likely to worsen as both Oxfam and the Foreign Office are revising their estimates of the potential death toll upwards. Public health concerns have led Oxfam to claim up to 1.5 million could die as a result of the cyclone, while David Miliband said he "would be amazed if there hadn't been about 100,000 who had died already" and claimed "hundreds of thousands more are at risk". He goes on to blame the "malign neglect" of the Burmese military junta, whose actions are creating a "humanitarian catastrophe of genuinely epic proportions". Douglas Alexander has been slightly less pessimistic, claiming the junta is softening its stance with limited access for an assessment team and permission for French NGO Medecins du Monde to distribute aid.The actions of the Burmese go

One of our readers contacted Lesbiatopia Monday, informing us about a developing story coming out of the Philadelphia suburb of Haverford Township, PA.It seems the parents of a 9-year-old third-grade student approached school administrators on April 16 to ask for help in making a "social transition" for their transgendered child. The Haverford School District then consulted with some experts on the subject of trangenderism in children, among them, an organization called TransYouth Family Allies, to get advice on how they should proceed.Haverford School District officials came up with a plan that called for notifying the parents and about 100 third-grade students at the child’s school to tell them that they would be holding an information session for the students to explain why their clas
Lately I have been thinking about my own frustration tolerance, as well as my husband’s. And, of course, the dogs.
See, my husband is not working right now. And he did take a Semester at the Salt Lake Community College, but he really didn’t like it. He had a hard time dealing with the [...]
The results of a recent study suggest that supplementation with 3 capsules of green tea extract(total: 890 +/- 13 mg polyphenols and 366 +/- 5 mg EGCG) increased fat oxidation, insulin sensivity, and glucose tolerance in young healthy men.
“BACKGROUND: Green tea consumption is reportedly associated with various health-promoting properties. For example, it has been shown [...]
I admit this thought contains a little bit of "sweet lemon," but McCain may benefit in some way from participating in public financing. First and foremost, it tarnishes Obama's outsider image. His waffling is unbecoming, to say the least.
It also gives McCain an underdog sheen, and it may actually drive people to his site for advertising. Free ads! The youtube ad below cuts in on Obama's "uniter" message. It's a little wordy and tough to follow at times, but if McCain wins on "tolerance," better for him.

The world may value compromise and tolerance as supreme virtues, but they have a devastating effect on preaching. As more and more evangelical pulpits reflect the surrounding culture, it’s time for Christians to proclaim a distinctively biblical worldview.
John MacArthur elaborates in this article first published at Grace To You:
Many evangelicals (once known for a very [...]
Whenever I hear the phrase "religious tolerance," I expect I'll be treated to some atheist bashing, as this phrase always seems to mean that we atheists should be more tolerant of believers who wish to delude themselves. You see, the religious rarely seem to think that we are deserving of tolerance, understanding, or compassion. Fortunately, there are exceptions, and this post will report on one of them. However, before you get the warm fuzzies, I'll let you know now that this one doesn't end well.According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, Pine Creek High School is trying to promote religious tolerance. A student group, Students Learning Acceptance Through Education, invited local religious leaders and even a token atheist to speak to 150 students about "tolerance and faith."Panelists for

After this year's 30th annual South Side Irish Parade some neighbors in the areas just beyond the parade route noted that police seemed to be actively enforcing a no-tolerance policy attributed directly to the new superintendent, Jody Weis.
Paddywagons were full all day long as police were busy arresting dozens of paradegoers, actually a rare occurrence in previous years.
Should the Chicago Police Department enforce a no-tolerance policy during the annual South Side Irish Parade?
Again and again while reading other blogs and forums the notion comes up, that Islam does not tolerate other faiths and that its main aim would be to convert others under Islam by violent means. As proof they quote isolated Hadiths and suras of the Quran . Nothing would be more wrong and [...]
Swiss-born artist Saba Djamila, formerly known as Djamila Lininger Strauss, was born to a German mother and Algerian father. As a result of her travels and extended stays with Rastafarians in Jamaica and the Tuaregs in Timbuktu, she developed a keen interest in interracial bonding. This subject is the theme of her paintings on display through Jan. 31 at the Baobab Cultural Center. She further witnessed the complexity of interracial love when her white daughter married a black Jamaican. Would her grandchildren be black, white, sambo (quarter-white), mulatto (half white), quadroon (three-quarters white), or mestizo (seven-eighths white)? Would Santa be the white or black grandpa?Interracial issues add to the complexity of family dynamics during the holidays. Interracial adoptions have increas
Tolerance is one of those things that while living in Canada is not only expected, but any act contrary is met with great scorn and public outrage in the media. Yet, it would seem that not all Canadians have come to accept ‘tolerance’ as being a vital corner stone of Canadian Society.
An article by Danielle Crittenden, of the National Post for instance, is shitting on the entire system because she wasn’t harassed as much as she was hoping to have been by people in public or even the security detail that handled her at the airport, while wearing a burqa.
I would guess that Danielle would receive the same level of harassment by society had she chosen to conduct the same experiment having chosen to dress like a nun, but I guess that wouldn’t count seeing as how it’s the Muslims we’re after.
Anyways check the link for the article, and also check what the French are now demanding in Quebec, .h the crazy world we live in.

India ink and gouache on paper, 24 7/8 x 18 5/16by George Giusti (b. 1908–d. 1990) in Smithsonian American Art MuseumToday is The International Day for Tolerance. In order to generate public awareness, emphasise the dangers of intolerance and react with renewed commitment and action in support of tolerance promotion and education, the International Day for Tolerance is observed on 16 November each year.In 1996, the General Assembly invited Member States to observe the International Day for Tolerance on 16 November, with activities directed towards both educational establishments and the wider public (resolution 51/95 of 12 December). This action came in the wake of the United Nations Year for Tolerance, 1995, proclaimed by the Assembly in 1993 (resolution 48/126). The Year had been declared on the initiative of the General Conference of UNESCO. On 16 November 1995, the UNESCO member States had adopted the Declaration on the Principles of Tolerance (pdf file) and Follow-up Plan of Act
For our final group project of the semester, each group had to make a video about a social issue they were passionate about. We used Flickr images to make a video collage about religious tolerance by showing different religions' takes on "the golden rule". Even though each religion practices differently - the message of respect is the same. The song is "Wisdom" by Delerium.Religions in order of appearance: Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Native American Spirituality, Islam, Wicca, and Christianity.
What's wrong with this picture?About the same thing that's wrong with the picture further down! Both of these pictures take unnecessary cheap shots a people's religion and is a sign of disrespect for other people's beliefs. Now don't get me wrong, I have run down religion quite a lot on this blog, but, it has always been about something that is wrong or perverted about a belief system, not the religion itself. When people publish pictures like these it reduces us to the lowest common denominator. In other words, this sort of action is no better than the people they are trying to denigrate. For example, I have made quite a few comments about Muslim Fundamentalists and Extremists and will continue to do so because I believe that these people are as misguided and delusional as some of the Christian Fundamentalists who infest North America. There is no place for these "Children of God" in modern society and they have to be ostracized in one way or another, otherwise they will continue to
Once upon a time, many of the infractions that now get kids expelled from school used to get handled in the principal's office. The advent of zero-tolerance policies after the 1994 Gun-Free Schools Act changed all that, perhaps with unintended consequences, University of Florida doctoral candidate Brian Schoonover finds.
Now, the law that was meant to keep guns away from schools has turned into wide-ranging policies that might find 5-year-olds tossed out for bringing toy weapons to campus. What's interesting, Schoonover discovers, is that students are more likely to face zero-tolerance punishments in large Florida school districts than in small ones.
He attributes that disparity to the fact that big districts have alternative programs, while smaller districts do not.
To read more about his research, which he will present Tuesday at the National Conference for Safe Schools and Communities, click here.
I will be hosting a repetition tolerance course in my home. This is what I heard for twenty minutes this morning.... I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, Down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart. I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, Down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart. I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, Down in my heart, Where? .....etc.....etc.....etc....I kid you not. Over and over and over and over again for twenty minutes. I tried suggesting other songs, or turning up the TV , or putting snacks in their mouths. Nothing stopped the repetition. My nerves will never be the same again.
I'm not personally a big fan of Jesus posters - if you have ever walked through the Arab Shuk in the Old City you will know that those ones with the eyes that follow you as you walk are creepy (not religious intolerance on my part - just anti-creepiness).On the other hand, I would never have the gall to ask someone to remove a poster from a public area. I don't particularly want to look at a poster of a bloody heart and hands with nail wounds in them while I am trying to eat my sandwiches, but there are worse things in some staff cafeterias. Can you imagine the religious intolerance that would lead a member of staff to complain about such a poster, and (even worse) can you imagine an employer suspending someone for putting up such a poster? To make it worse, it was a Muslim who complained, despite the fact that Jesus was a prophet according to the Koran:the Quran not only discusses Jesus many times but also gives him a role of high honor, though only as a prophet.... Jesus is one in a
Yesterday I had the pleasure of touring the Caring and Sharing Child Care Center at Webster Avenue in Rochester. If you are not familiar with Rochester, Webster Avenue is in the heart of the city and is surrounded by some of Rochester’s most neglected and violent streets. The building that houses the child care center is recently renovated and freshly painted. Maybe it’s the playhouse outside the main entrance but something about this building is just down-right inviting. I’ve had the urge to visit it for a long time. This child care center has 89 slots for child care and because public schools were closed yesterday for Columbus Day, they had a full house. So I guess I was expecting pandemonium that comes from lots of young energy. Instead, I found peacefulness at this center that was difficult to leave. Granted, it was nap time in several classrooms where soft music and dim lights prevailed. But in the older classrooms, there was a lot of learning going on and you could
My ‘View’ of Barry Manilow
Famous ‘has been’ of yesteryear — Barry Manilow - demanded that he appear on the View without Elisabeth because he “strongly disagrees with her views” and thinks she is “dangerous and offensive“. Now, a close source says that he is lying and it was “the View” that cancelled the booking all along. So, not only is he intolerant of others’ beliefs and a horrible singer, but he is also a liar.
Speaking of intolerance
It looks like is Iran is pointing 600 missiles to various locations in Israel and U.S. bases in Iraq. As much as I hate war and love the Iranian people, I have to say that whoever really operates that country is blatantly insane. Israel doesn’t need the U.S. or anyone to completely obliterate Iran. I guess pride sometimes clouds ones view of reality. And, to think that Ahmadinejad actually wanted to visit ground zero during his visit to the UN. Thank God that w
Kids have gotten suspended from school for toy guns, water guns, notes about guns. But a drawing of one?
The Associated Press is reporting that a 13-year-old in Arizona has been put out for a crude sketch of a gun. School officials deemed the drawing a threat, and invoked Columbine while talking to the parents, who called the sketch a "harmless doodle."
Enough said.

please note:
I’m just interested in seeing how different folks gauge these issues. So far, it’s been pretty interesting. Personally, I’m finding some of my personal views far from some of the ones which have been listed. Will gluttony be judged differently than tobacco by some? If so, why?
Is discretion bad, because it’s hiding something that shouldn’t be hidden, or is it prudent, because it’s protecting the weaker brother?
What are the common attitudes on: work ethic, compensation, general ministry, etc..??
That’s what I’m looking for. My list is not a set of rules, nor is it a suggestion that something might or might not be bad. It’s a neutral list of issues that I’m asking people to weigh in on. I’m sure those of us who are pastors will find the outcome quite in
Matt Roloff recently was taken in for drunk driving. Which begs the question. I won’t state the question, but it’s the one that is begged. It seems he has to be a big star like Paris Hilton or that Lohan girl. Leslie and I watch Little People Big World all the time. We love that family. I am actually sad that he had too much to drink and got behind the wheel. I am glad no one was hurt. And I hope he learned a little lesson.

I don't remember how I stumbled upon Defining Spiritual Presence. I was clicking from site to site and somehow found myself there . . . I love the 2006 Random House Unabridged Dictionary's definition of the word:A fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own; freedom from bigotry. That really

A Jewish Holocaust survivor made a plea for tolerance Tuesday at a conference in the world's most populous Muslim nation that also brought together religious leaders and victims of attacks by Islamic extremists.``I hope people will learn from the past,'' said Sol Teichman, 79, who was a teenager living in Czechoslovakia when his city was occupied first by the Hungarian army and then the Germans. ``We should try to improve life instead of destroying it.''The daylong gathering on Bali island was attended by high-profile moderate Indonesian Muslim leaders, including former President Abdurraham Wahid, and Hindu spiritual head Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, as well as Buddhist teachers, a Jesuit priest and rabbis.

In Hillsborough schools, zero tolerance means different things. When it comes to firearms and threats, zero tolerance means zero tolerance. That's the law in Florida. On other offenses - such as battery, drugs and alcohol - the district's zero tolerance policy requires that an incident will be fully investigated, not that all students will receive the harshest punishment across the board.
Several middle and high school principals told School Board members that they like the policy at a workshop on Tuesday. The Board wanted to make sure that students and parents understand exactly what it means.
School officials also shared some statistics why students are getting in trouble. Top offenses are inappropriate conduct (34,070), tardiness (29,346), disobedience (18,838) and disruptive behavior (16,064). Administrators pledged to work with principals to achieve greater consistency how behaviors are logged in and punished, as well as to seek targeted interventions at schools where large
National Post11 May 2007Two apparently unrelated stories on the front pages this week share an important connection — one that goes to the heart of this country’s anti-terrorism policies.
Yesterday, National Post reporters Stewart Bell and Graeme Hamilton reported that the Tamil Tigers, a group classified as a terrorist entity by our federal government, has been aggressively raising funds among
The Church of Integrity encourages people to ask questions and think. Thus more than likely we'll have a very diverse group of followers. How is it possible for a diverse group to get along? The only proven way we know of is that people show each other due respect. When you meet someone that is different than you or has different ideas then you should become curious about the persons background, culture and views. We learn by interacting with each other. Refusing to learn or hating on those that are different is not in the spirit of our teachings. One important form of respect that we want to teach is respect for followers of other religions. Learn about their religion for they are part of our cultural heritage as citizens of planet Earth. Even if it is possible to dig out something bad in the teachings of their religion then remember that people are not inherently evil and that in the end, all that matters is how you interpret your religion and what parts of it you emphasize on.What a

When cocaine enters the body, it moves rapidly from the bloodstream to the central nervous system where it affects the various reward/pleasure centers of your brain– including an important pleasure chemical, dopamine. Dopamine and these parts of your brain aid with thought organization, concentration, fine motor control, sex drive and energy.Cocaine initially increases all these functions. Eventually though, as cocaine use increases, the brain’s natural receptor sites reduce or lose their ability to produce dopamine and other chemicals. This can cause feelings of depression or a “crash”. These sites are not permanently damaged and will begin functioning again after you stop using cocaine, although it may take awhile depending on how long you used for.Your body responds to cocaine use in other ways such as increased heart rate, blood pressure and breathing. Cocaine also increases alertness, stamina and feelings of euphoria while reducing fatigue, a desire to sleep and hunger. Th
People say that Christians are not tolerant. I can understand where that judgment comes from. After seeing the Wrong Revered Phelps on TV a few times with his “God Hates Fags” placards.. anyone could easily come to a similar conclusion.
Most of us, however, think not too kindly about the Phelps agenda. In fact, most cry out in despair not wanting to be identified with that representation.
So, where does that leave us? How do we draw the line between tolerance and compromise? Can we easily discern the difference? Can we reach out in love to those who live in a manner that we reckon to be wrong? Can we open our church doors to gothic types and transvestites? Does our welcoming arms of tolerance also constitute as being a compromise?
I personally think, that we should be more tolerant than anybody. We should be able to put up with, and allow people who are lost and w/o Jesus to live as those who are lost and without Jesus.. Tolerating someone does not mean that you
Mark wrote a very excellent post yesterday. He wrote: The Proliferation of Hate and What You Can Do About It. Something in the article really struck a chord with me because I’ve had similar feelings and have said so for years and that is about the word tolerance. I hate that word! Why should we merely tolerate others when we can forgive them for their differences and love them? Why preach tolerance it doesn’t really fix anything. It’s not tolerance that we need it’s LOVE! It doesn’t matter rather you are black, white, yellow; Jewish, Christian, Muslim; Arab, American, or French What matters is that we are all HUMANKIND and we need to love and respect one another. So what if we think different? If we all thought the same way what a horribly boring place this would be! We all think differently for a reason! We all have a place here on this earth. We all share a purpose. Just as I’ve found a purpose in bringing you information on healing yourself and changing the world so ha
Today we have a guest essay from writer and activist, Patricia Goldsmith. The Limits of TolerancePatricia Goldsmith With the words, "I'm in it to win," Hillary Clinton tossed her hat into the ring—and gave us the motto of the Democratic Leadership Council, the group that launched her husband's presidency and continues to dominate Democratic Party strategy. In the mid- to late-eighties, at the height of the Reagan Revolution, this group of Democratic politicians and strategists realized that unless they could figure out a way to start winning elections again, they would not have political careers. So instead of bucking Reaganomics, they hitched the Democratic Party to the Republicans' bumper, like a string of tin cans bouncing along in the dust. They declared that business and government would henceforth be friends and partners. They had found a third way, a new center. No more unseemly scuffles. In practice, however, it turned out to be a very lopsided p
