      Classic New York: Times Square
The Times Square area, famously cleaned up from its XXX days, to some people's chagrin, still attracts visitors like lemmings. I don't have many occasions to walk through this dizzying streetscape, but when I happen upon Times Square, my stress level hits at least the orange zone. It's hard for my brain to handle all the multiple moving images projected onto jumbo screens, the crawling ticker of news items, the flashing colors, and the onrush of pedestrians. One day I will spin into a vortex, collapse upon the pavement, and succumb to massive trampling by high heels, boots and sneakers. If I survive, I will move to Iowa.Leaving Macy's, I headed up Broadway at 34th St. and then through Times Square to 44th Street. I wandered around the Theatre District for awhile, fighting for a bit of the p

Attempted terrorist attack in Times Square army recruitment center
Terrorist activity is lurking in the Big Apple. No one was in the army center when it happened, but the bomb itself was definitely felt nearby: NEW YORK (AP) - A small bomb caused minor damage to an empty military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, shaking guests in hotel rooms high above "the crossroads of the world." Police blocked off the area to investigate the explosion,

      Michael Breyette's Times Square 2004
以下圖片版權屬於 Michael Breyette 所有. [Source] On a tour of famous cities around the world, their first stop is NYC. While maybe not the most romantic of destinations, that doesn't stop them from sharing a tender moment amid the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple. For the longest time, I concentrated almost exclusively on the subjects in my drawings, all but ignoring the setting or background. But as I have grown as an artist, the backgrounds have become more intricate and complex. I was a little intimidated at first by the lights and signage in this piece. But as is often the case, the part I was the most nervous about ended up being the most fun to draw. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the naming of Times Square, the opening of the NYC subway system, and the first New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square. A world-renowned tourist spot, I felt this would be a great location to start a new series of drawings featuring a couple visiting famous destinations aroun

Sweet Places: M&M’s World Store Times Square
I was in New York City with some time on my hands a few weeks ago and I figured my time couldn’t be better spent searching out some candy! I decided to check out the 25,000-square-foot M&M’s World Store that opened its doors to the public in December of last year. The thing that struck me very funny about the exact location at 48th and Broadway is that it’s right across the street from the Hershey Store! Coincidence? Once inside the store you’re immediately bombarded with bright colors and all sorts of items and merchandise displaying the M&M’s logo. You’re quickly greeted by the store employees who inform you there are three levels to the store and you should check them all out! I knew I’d want to hit the actual candy last (who wants to lug a bag full of candy all over the store?) so I figured out all the sweet stuff was on the second level. I breezed through the first floor (mainly dedicated to apparel and key chains) and then to

      Masi Oka in Times Square
Here’s a short video of Masi Oka (as Hiro Nakaruma) from TV drama series Heroes helping a tourist to take a photograph in Times Square. Haven’t managed to catch all the episodes from this series. This video is shot by BuckShotWon, a.k.a. Adrian. This Adrian could be Adrian Pasdar the actor from Heroes. If it is, then “YATA!” as Hiro would have shouted. Times Square
Times Square is a major intersection in Manhattan, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. Times Square consists of the blocks between Sixth and Eighth Avenues from east to west, and West 40th and West 53rd Streets from south to north, making up the western part of the commercial area of Midtown Manhattan. One of most famous tourism attractions. Like Red Square in Moscow, the Puerta del Sol in Madrid, Champs-Elysées in Paris, Trafalgar Square in London, or Tiananmen Square in Beijing, Times Square has achieved the status of an iconic world landmark and has become a symbol of its home city. Times Square is principally defined by its lighted and animated advertisements. Coordinates: 40.75659° N 73.98626° W

URGENT - EAGLES NEEDED AT TIMES SQUARE 5/19/07
Important announcement!!! Taken from the Gathering of Eagles website. URGENT - EAGLES NEEDED AT TIMES SQUARE 5/19/07 May 15th, 2007 Saturday, May 19, 2007 – Noon to 4pm or whatever it takes. The forces of the Left wing have decided to make a mockery of every American serviceman or woman this Saturday at Times Square. They have decided to perform street theater decrying the supposed torture of inmates at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility at a time when three brave American servicemen are in the hands of Islamic terrorists in Iraq. They have decided to put on this travesty at the recruiting station where we will be holding a Support the Troops rally that day. They have effectively declared war on the United States, our Military, and the Gathering of Eagles organization. They have no concern for OUR soldiers who are likely being tortured, mutilated and beheaded even as I write this, This is an OUTRAGE, this is TREASON, this has got to be smothered by a display of patriotism so grea

      Anywhere but Times Square...
Yesterday I made the mistake of trying to walk down 42nd Street right as the calm was edging closer towards a confetti frenzied storm. Suffice to say, I did not make the same mistake twice tonight. I've mixed so many kir royales for myself since 9:00 that the cassis is oozing out my pores, so I won't run the risk of lapsing into my usual bout of word nazi-isms since I'm hitting the keyboard like a letter a minute as it is. Just like the blinking stars say, happy 2007 everyone!
