Sandra felt as low as the heels of her Birkenstocks as she pushed against a November gust and the florist shop door. Her life had been easy, like a spring breeze. Then in the fourth month of her second pregnancy, a minor automobile accident stole her ease. During this Thanksgiving week she would have [...]
Most people can barely imagine having roses without having thorns. They are so beautiful that most people are willing to risk the pain of the thorns. However, today there are a variety of different options available. In fact, today there are various rose varieties that are actually thornless. So, let's take a look at some of the top roses that don't have the thorns anymore. You'll be able to get r
Who has not heard the saying: Every rose has its thorns? To many people the thorn on a rose has symbolism, whether it is spiritual or otherwise. The thorn seems to state that even the most beautiful things in life have a little bad to them. You could even say that the thorn is there to say "hey, you got to take the bad with the good." No matter how you think of it there is some kind of meaning to
To give thanks in every situation is sometimes very difficult. When our bodies are wracked by pain, or we have just learned that we have a physical problem for which there is no cure, or we have lost our job, or a cherished relationship has been broken, we don't feel grateful. But we can learn to thank God because He gives us strength when we feel weak. That is why the apostle Paul could say, "I ta

This is a Crown of Thorns star. These guys are NOT a favorite critter of ours as they eat coral, and the spines are venemnous to boot. You can see this particular star has just finished off eating the cauliflower coral behind it and is moving on to it's next meal. Corals are a colonial critter, growing on top of the skeleton of previous polyps. The COT starfish will eat the live outer layer, and the coral may or may not ever recover. As far as the poison content of the spines of this star... it is not to be messed with. I've run into a lot of people who have tried touching it "just to see" if it's sharp or hurts.... It is sharp, will poke through gloves and skin easily, and will mess the contact site up for months, I know people who have visible damage years later - it's not a simple be
Norma Munro is a well known singer on Islay and in other parts of Scotland and Europe. She mainly performs on Islay as well as on several foreign Scottish related festivals and concerts. She released her first album in the summer of 2001. The title 'A song in the Air' is taken from the most famous Islay song 'Westering Home'. The album features many of the most popular Scottish songs and some of her own favourites. Not soon after that, she recorded her second CD (in 2005) called 'Scotia's Gold' which has a selection of Scottish traditional and some more contemporary folk songs. It was recorded on Islay by Hamish Campbell. A few weeks ago Norma Munro sent me her latest CD called 'The Rose' and of course I was curious what it would sound like. She already announced in October that her new CD
Could you imagine walking through the subway on your way to work only to pass right on by one of the greatest living violinists in the world? I think it's pretty sad that we so quickly pass by the beauty of God's creation like that. How we are so clock and time driven, we have to be on schedule, be here or there at a certain time or else life will end! We pass it by every day. I know in my own jaunts through the city I've missed beautiful gardens, sculpture, Mosaics, and gifted musicians who I may throw in a buck or two as I rush on by. Once I saw an elderly Asian woman play a bamboo flute in the bitter cold. More recently it was a violinist with one person standing to listen to him play. I catch a half-listen. Maybe a quick glance as I walk on by. God gave them these abilities a
We took Eva for a walk after work. It was still light out and I love working at home and getting done at 3:30, it leaves plenty of family time. In addition to the health benefits a walk provides us with it also gives me a chance to get some shots in natural light. I [...]

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 NKJVPaul never does say exactly what the thorn in his flesh is, but we know that he takes pleasure in it. Despite the fact that he most certainly wished that he was not afflicted thus. I too have been given a thorn of the flesh. Mine is depression. Some days it is very hard for me to take pleasure in anything.I was diagnosed with my "th
