Not a fun Friday so far. (Fun) Fact Friday, the thirteenth.
Lucky number thirteen! You’d never know it by the way this morning went. Instead of fun facts this is more of a weekly roundup, but whatever. *I went to the bathroom alone twice. The first time, Primo painted my glass patio door with cedar deck stain. The second time he [...]

What's scary about Friday the Thirteenth?
The coming Friday is 13th of this month. So what? Well, I'm sure you must have heard of this belief - Friday the thirteenth is unlucky (very, actually). As you would've expected, there's no scientific logic behind it, it's just belief. The fear of it, is actually made up of two separate fears - one for the number 13 and the other for Friday. The number 13 is considered unlucky because it is the num

The Spook Of The Thirteenth Lock - In Country Dark
You know I am barely into the Spook of the Thirteenth Lock’s self-titled debut album and already I am stuck on endless repeat at track 2. ‘In Country Dark’ is deliciously put together you see, a spark of experimentation goes a long way in my book and the tail end of this ditty provides it in spades. I mean at one stage I really felt like it was going to burst into My Bloody Valentine style molten chord exchanges. Before all that though there is a lively folk jamboree to be savoured, which comes complete with the sweetest of vocal melodies. Taken in an Irish context the Spook of the Thirteenth Lock are reminiscent of Horslips but they tend to take on more of the contemporary which often obscures the traditionalists within them. It’s early days yet but lead man Allen Blighe has all t

      Bush, The Thirteenth Imam
From Soldiers of the Hidden Imam : Iran also has at least 50,000 bloggers. One student explained that since these blogs are often anonymous, people can speak their minds freely, in a way they generally don't dare to even in circles of student friends, since among those friends might be a regime spy. Alluding to the regime's own euphemistic description of its intelligence agents as "unknown soldiers of the hidden imam," students call them, with heavy irony, "soldiers of the hidden imam." Which is, of course, what they themselves were supposed to be. The regime has spent twenty-five years trying to make these young Iranians deeply pro-Islamic, anti-American, anti-Western, and anti-Israeli. As a result, most of them are resentful of Islam (at least in its current, state-imposed fo

Mother Talk Blog Tour: The Thirteenth Tale
I am a day behind on this review because to be perfectly honest, I was holding a pity party yesterday because of some bad scan results I got back. I apologize to Mother Talk who was counting on me to have this on time and hope they will accept me saying "I'm Sorry".This time Mother Talk sent me the book The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I'll be honest, I read the first chapter of this book and was not the least bit interested. It seemed extremely boring and I didn't pick it up again until this past Monday. Now my feelings on the book are mixed to say the least. Knowing that I had to post something for Mother Talk, I had decided I would just force myself to read some of it and maybe skip to the end. That is so not what happened! I ended up not only reading the whole book but I seriously could not put it down until I had read it in it's entirety. The Thirteenth Tale is about the famous (in the book) author Vida Winter who writes a letter to a little known biographer and bookwo

      Friday the Thirteenth
Triskaidekaphobia ris-ky-dek-uh-FOH-bee-uh, noun: A morbid fear of the number 13 or the date Friday the 13th. In Christian countries the number 13 was considered unlucky because there were 13 persons at the Last Supper of Christ. Fridays are also unlucky, because the Crucifixion was on a Friday. Hence a Friday falling on the thirteenth day is regarded as especially unlucky. Some famous triskaidekaphobes1: Napoleon Herbert Hoover Mark Twain Richard Wagner Franklin Roosevelt 1. No, you can’t have a thirteenth glass of water!
After the fifth or sixth “get up” even the most patient parents is bound to lose it just a little. The brains behins Moms On Edge developed the Goodnight StopLight because they’ve been there and they feel your pain! The Good Night Stoplight is a 19” tall felt “stoplight” with removable green & yellow lights and an attached red light. There’s a handle to hang on a doorknob, drawer handle, or wall hook. Directions from the site: Explain to your child that he/she is allowed to get up from bed two times (i.e., to use the potty, get a drink of water, or have another kiss). Each time the child gets out of bed he must hand one of the two removable lights to a parent. Green means, “Go!” Yellow (last chance!) means, “Uh-Oh!” Parents should take each light and return the child back to bed quietly. Once the removable lights are used up the stoplight is Red, and that means “Bed!” Remind the child that he must now stay in bed: “The light is
