Today’s Thursday Thirteen is a “gross” edition, in honor of the 144th edition. We could use any definition of gross, so here’s mine:
Thirteen “gross” things about raising boys.
1. No matter how many times I remind them, they just don’t seem to remember to put the toilet seat up. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve found pee on the toilet seat!
2. I have found that boys can not pee in the middle of the night. By that, I mean that they can’t actually make it in to the bowl but rather they pee all around the toilet. Either that, or they are having way to much fun trying to see how many surfaces they can pee on before mom goes insane!
3. Laughing at bodily functions is a favorite pastime for my boys. I don’t get

May 9th, Cure will also tease its fans with singles that are to be

13 Things I did on Vacation
(not on theme with the “alphabet” theme, but I’ll be doing the GROSS theme NEXT week)
1. Took a nap almost every day.
2. Took my Labrador to the vet. (Left with multiple medicines)
3. Taught my hubby to play Canasta.
4. Learned how to play Rummy.
5. Played [...]
I think this is only the second time I’ve participated in the Thursday 13. I could be wrong, though. I will be trying to do this more in the future. This weeks theme is “alphabet” so, in keeping with a Mother’s Day theme, I chose the letter “m” for mother. Here are 13 reasons I love being a mom:
Thirteen reason I love being a mom
1. I get to play with toys! Maybe more than that, I get to experiment with “boy” toys, like Transformers, Rescue Heroes, etc. I was such a girly girl when it came to toys, for the most part. I played with Barbies (although my sister and I were known for marrying our Barbies with G.I. Joe’s. Ken was wimpy in our book…Barbie was much more likely to fall for Joe than Ken.).
2. I love hearing my boys sa

Have you every reached a weight-loss goal but want to reward yourself with food?
How many times have you told yourself “I met my goal so I can splurge for only one day.” or “I’ve been good, so I deserve a treat.”
When you’ve reached a weight loss goal, or the perfect weight, it takes work to maintain this; therefore, it doesn’t make sense to reward yourself with food.
So, here are thirteen non-food related rewards that you can treat yourself to:
1. A manicure
2. A full body spa – (Yes, men can have either one, too.)
3. A good book
4. A piece of jewelry or a watch
5. A magazine subscription
6. A night out at the movies with your spouse, a friend or even yourself
7. A new shirt or blouse
8. A new cell phone or latest gadget that you wanted

I’ve had a Performing Arts themed week. So I thought I would continue the trend one more day.
People have asked me how and why I manage to take my children to performing arts events.
Why? Because I feel it is immensely important. We as a family are kind of “artsy” I guess, although we enjoy football, basketball, golf and sporting events too. We enjoy reading, but manage to still find time for

A apresentação é totalmente estilizada. A trama do jogo é beaseada
Here's my belated Earth Day post where I take up Boss Sander's challenge of trying to reduce my trash to nothing for one day. Since I knew this would be impossible, I documented every piece of trash I threw out instead, with commentary on possible options to reduce and reuse it. And somehow, it neatly fits into a Thursday Thirteen post as well.Blister package for Claritin substitute. All medication of this type, no matter how large the quantity, is encapsulated in blister packaging which is completely useless. You cannot reuse it or re-purpose it in any way and it is made from a paper, foil and plastic combination that is totally non-recyclable. What are my options here? Not take the medicine and suffer through spring time allergies? Fight this sort of packaging and endure the wrath
I will participate in a list of thirteen things on Thursday because I have no idea what to write today. I suppose I could write Amos' 10 month letter, but that would be work. I'm not here to work, ya dig? So, I give you thirteen random items and units that are found in my head.Tonight, I celebrate my love for you. How? By dining with other bloggers. I will eat delicious Indian foods in your name, dear reader. I will sup and drink in the lovely visages of Inherent Passion, Greeblemonkey, Tiddleywink, and Villanovababy. "The Thirteen American Arguments" takes a sweeping look at the fundamental debates that, Fineman argues, have shaped America from its seventeenth-century colonial roots. Who, for instance, is a person? Who, for that matter, is an American? What is the role of faith in public life, or the role of the individual vis as vis an expansive, growing state? How, ultimately, can we make sure our system is equitable and "fair"? Fineman's years as a high-level political reporter have armed him with a library of up-close-and-personal anecdotes that give the book its flavor, but the real meat of each chapter comes from the condensed--in some cases, one wishes they were less so--historical perspective offered on each debate. Whether it comes to the Supreme Court's many contradictory rulings on

1. Take a flier on fluorescents. They no longer buzz, flicker or turn faces blue -- and they represent one of the brightest ideas yet for cooling down the atmosphere and your electric bill. Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) approximate the glow of incandescent bulbs and use 75% less energy. If every U.S. household replaced just one incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent, the emissions savings would be comparable to taking three million cars off the road for a year. Don't let the price of CFLs -- as much as $7 each -- turn you off. The lights not only last ten times longer than incandescents but also save up to $60 in electricity per light over their lifetime.2. Vanquish the vampires. Remember James Thurber's story about the aunt who worried that electricity was leaking out of the wal

Yesterday’s blog proved that preparing food at home reduces food’s carbon footprint making it environmentally friendly.
Another benefit is that home cooking, done correctly, is healthier for you than pre-prepared meals or take-out. Healthy cooking is maligned for being boring. Nothing could be further from the truth. Any meal, prepared with the right spices, can be healthy and delicious.
To that end, today’s Thursday Thirteen features a list of thirteen must have spices and herbs to enhance your meals:
1. Salt
2. Pepper
3. Garlic
4. Basil
5. Cayenne pepper
6. Chili powder
7. Oregano

Here is Dova's Disney Princess collection. In the back row are her six Princess Babies: Tinkerbell, Ariel, Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Snow White and Cinderella. This was before Disney cast out Tinkerbell as a princess as she is only a fairy. You must be either born royalty or marry into it, although Mulan is neither (but she is Chinese, woot!). Since Dova didn't have Jasmine and didn't like any of the full size Jasmine dolls, she picked out the seven Disney Princess figurine set with Jasmine, Ariel, Belle, Aurora, Snow White, Cinderella and Mulan. This was also before Pocohantas was added. And poor Giselle from Enchanted was not added because she was portrayed by a real actress who needs real royalties. Oh, the turmoils of the Disney Princess cult! ---

Here are some things that we've done to reduce, recycle, reuse and preserve our precious Earth.Install a dryer vent that can switch from venting outdoors to venting indoors during the winter. In the wintertime, the thing you need most in is warmth and moisture. This provides plenty of both, plus your home smells like clean laundry. This kit is relatively cheap (~$20) at Home Depot.Install CFL light bulbs everywhere. Not only do they save money in electricity, they keep your house cooler in the summer.Use a real cup for water at work. The amount of styrofoam cups that are used at work is mind boggling. You don't even need to wash a water cup that often and I use the extra water at the end of the day to water my plants.Use a ceramic mug for coffee. Yes you do have to wash a coffee mug
Hyperbole is as essential to rock’s DNA as the electric guitar. It’s a concept which Efrim Menuck seems well acquainted, as he sings, “One million died to make this sound,” the oft-repeated refrain from the song of the same name, the 13th track on 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons. But really, for all intents and [...]
A 13-YEAR-OLD who savagely beat a "helpless" man to death for no reason before throwing his body on a bonfire had enjoyed a trip with social services to Alton Towers just three days before the fatal attack. The remains of Stephen Croft's badly-charred body was found in the embers of a public bonfire in the early hours of November 6 last year. Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe QC, yesterday told the schoolboy he will be locked up for a minimum of 13 years. ~ more... ~

Every year, Doug and I take a mini-vacation away from the kids and have their two grandmas watch them at our house. And these 2 days quickly set our routines upside down. Here are thirteen things that got out of whack.House - The grandmas are not quite as strict about having the kids clean up their toys. When we got back I found all sorts of things under the aquarium table: poker chips, fish from a fishing game, plastic easter egg halves, spoons, monkeys from monkeys in a barrel, and ice from Don't Break the Ice, too name a few. When I asked Dova what all that stuff was doing there, she said "that's my garbage can."
Movie review of 'Thirteen' from Ask.com :"Thirteen" caught me completely off guard. I'd only heard enough about the movie to know it was about the difficulties of growing up in today's world as seen through the eyes of a couple of young girls. That hardly prepared me for this devastatingly frank glimpse at what life feels like to contemporary 13 year olds. This fiercely realistic, truthful movie is one of this year's scariest offerings. Forget "House of 1,000 Corpses," "Freddy vs. Jason," and "Jeepers Creeper 2," none of those movies have anything on the horror that emerges in "Thirteen." The angst of being a teen, wearing the trendiest clothes, hanging with the popular kids, and fitting in to the mold of junior high school is put under a magnifying glass and dissected in detail in Cathe

Just for fun, let’s discover 13 things that I don’t think you knew about rye.
1. Long seen as a weed in more desirable wheat crops, rye eventually gained respect for its ability to grow in areas too wet or cold for other grains. For this reason it is a traditional part of cuisine in Northern Europe and Russia. Rye was also widely grown in colonial America; some historians believe a fungus, rye ergot, triggered hallucinations leading to the Salem witch trials.
2. Recently the Finnish bakery group Fazer started a three-year program to publicize the health benefits of rye products, in a major push to increase rye consumption. Rye is unusual among grains for the high level of fiber in its endosperm – not just in its bran. Because of this, rye products generally

To save $100 a month, you need to spend $3.25 a day less than you do now. Does that sound so terrible? With a little bit of ingenuity, you can pull it off without having to live like a recluse hermit. And, once you are in the groove, you can use that $100 a month — $1200 a year — to fund your exotic vacation habit, pay off those student loans, start a business or sock away for your early retirement. Here are a few more tips to get you on track for your savings goals.1. Go vegetarian. If you can cut meat out of just three meals a week, you can shave between $15 and $25 off your grocery bill. O.k., I am combining two things here:
–I’m adding a post to the recent “Questions about Homeschooling” series (see here). {This is just a brief, informal, (hopefully a bit lighter and funnier) post}
–For the first time, I’m contributing to the weekly “Thursday Thirteen.” (Many other bloggers participate in this regularly. The last one I’ve [...]

13 Coffee Quotes and Sayings Chocolate, men, coffee - some things are better rich. Caffeine isn’t a drug, it’s a vitamin! Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and fat. Espresso is to Italy, what champagne is to France. I put instant coffee in a microwave and almost went back in time. Coffee is not my cup of tea. Sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation. My blood type is coffee. I don’t have a problem with caffeine. I have a problem without caffeine. Mothers are those wonderful people who can get up in the morning before the smell of coffee. Don’t criticize my coffee. You may be old and weak one day.No questions until I’ve had my second cup of coffee! On the eighth day God created coffee.
For this Thursday Thirteen, I've been thoroughly thumbing through my thesaurus and dictionary. You see, I think it's very important for a cat -- especially we executive mancats -- to be literate, to use appropriate cat words and to understand their meanings ... lest we appear to be thick-headed, unthinking third-rate thugs, thrashing around in the throes of thunderstruck illiteracy! Therefore, I would like to share with you Thirteen Cat Words from my voluminous vocatulary:1) Catcall: A signaling device we use to give marching orders to humans to fill food bowls, open doors, give us chin scritches and their undivided attention.2) Catty-corner: The proper location for our litter box.3) Caterwaul: What we sometimes hit when we miss the litter box.4) Catwalk: Our daily exercise regimen, consist

With a 7-day cruise coming right around the corner and knowing full-well everyone puts on at least 10 pounds when on a cruise, I've decided to take off twenty pounds so that I can enjoy adding the ten pounds on the cruise. This plan makes sense to me--this way I won't grow out of my cruise clothes!Today I'm contributing thirteen weight-loss tips to take off inches and extra pounds:1. Fasting--I like to fast at the minimum once or twice a year to clean out the body. And Springtime is an excellent time to get off that winter fat. The fast I use is the famous Stanley Burroughs lemonade fast: a little red pepper, organic pure maple syrup to taste, and squeezed organic lemons. Sip this through a straw as the concoction is bad for your teeth, although very cleansing and good for your body.2. Tea
Working at home makes it difficult sometimes to leave work behind. Sometimes this might put a strain on a marriage. Here are 13 tips that might help you to keep the romance alive.1. Love keeps you together. Keep your bond strong with small kindness.2. Enjoy each other's accomplishments and successes.3. Keep yourself positive whenever you are with your spouse. 4. Compliment each other often throughout the day.5. Solve problems when they are small and do not let them grow.6. Commit yourselves to solving problems so that you both win.7. Have clear agreements on how, when, and where you are going to be working at home.8. Let each other be able to tell the other "no" if you need to. 9. Close the door on work at the end of the work day. NEVER take business to bed and NEVER work in the bedroom. L
If you haven't caught the podcasting revolution, go get yourself an MP3 player and subscribe! It is completely effortless with an iPod and iTunes; podcasts are automatically added and removed to your device. I don't see how people listen to podcasts while sitting at a computer, I'm always clicking around in about five different tabs and do not have the attention span for that. While I'm stuck in the car, traveling or exercising, I cannot live without it. No more crappy radio and lots more choices! The Daily Breakfast with Father Roderick - This is the "must hear" show every morning for this non-Catholic, non-Religious listener. The Dutch priest discusses movies, video games, gadgets, food, health, with a smattering of Catholicism mixed in. He is funny, intelligent and always interes

IN THE NEWS: According to World Magazine, "For Cpl. Frank Holden's last act as a police officer after 26 years on the force, he took a stroll through the station's parking lot ticketing police vehicles with expired registration stickers. The former NJ cop said he was just doing his job--but admitted he was retiring because he had disagreements with the chief of police. Each of the 14 tickets he wrote carries fines up to $200."No TT today. Wah! I find that with being a stay at home/work at home mom I have to watch myself , because I will go to the fridge a lot and snack all day. It is so easy to just grab a bag of chips and a can of coke while I am working. I do not want to stop to cook something for myself! I do not always eat healthy. So this Thursday Thirteen is all about other ways that you can treat yourself , so that you are not grabbing sweets and junk. 1. Go Outside! Go for a walk, a long drive in the country, go to the park, etc. I know this is a hard one now that it is colder weather. But I do go out on my back porch every once in a while to get a breath of fresh(and cold) air. It does wake me up!2. Buy yourself some flowers. 3. Take a relaxing bubble bath. Or if you can , go to a spa. 4. Do something handy around the h
My parents never kept any of my children's books, especially anything from preschool. So I hold a special place for these books which I have shared with my children and wonder if I'll ever let them go. I'm trying not to turn my kids into packrats, but to give them a balanced sense of sentimentality for their belongings. Count! by Denise Fleming. This book is wonderfully illustrated with rich colors and our kids have memorized the fun text. The Three Bears by Byron Barton. This board book version of the classic tale with its bold primary colors is a hit with the kids. We have the voices down for all the parts and they burst out laughing every time. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. This is my favorite Eric Carle book. As a baby, Dova had a sweet one piece suit with its illustr
