Fixed the water pump plumbing, I took the pump apart last week to fix the leak around the diaphragm. Yet it was still leaking, but it turned out to be a loose fitting to the pump which just had to be tightened to finally stop the leak in the plumbing compartment. Fixed clog in the [...]

Sure, I've spoken of my favorite band often here on my little ol' site. But you will have to forgive me, I haven't told my readers the real truth behind my affection for the Christian rockers, Third Day. You may have heard the rumors or you may have seen the blurry paparazzi photos. Forgive me for hiding the real story behind the band. Yes, it is true, I am the secret member of Third Day. We had t
Crude oil declined for a third day amid concerns that slower economic growth will curb consumption of oil products.
Oil has retreated more than $7 from yesterday's record of $139.89 a barrel. German investor confidence dropped to the lowest in more than 15 years in June as surging inflation hit...

Yesterday it was the third day of the grief recovery workshop. It was the roughest day for my part as this day consisted of making a relationship chart over mine and my mother relationship, and also writing a fullfilment letter, that you can also partly call a goodbye letter. Reading the relationship chart was really hard, but reading the fullfilment letter actually made me feel like something was flying away from me. After I had read the letter I remember watching up to the roof and thinking she is free and so am I....I am not going to publish the whole letter as it was quite long, but I will publish the end of it here, the part of letting go:I want you to know, that despite everything I really miss you in my life and I wish that things could have been different. I want you to know that

It's the third day of school. I was still keeping my fingers crossed that W would not resist school. As usual, he couldn't play at the playground. When I took him to the classroom, he wasn't clinging very tightly and I could sense that he was letting go of me. Maybe, my encouragement to him that he would get a cup of icecream if he goes to school helped. Going to his seat and later playing with some blocks, he gave me a few hugs and a kiss. He even said goodbye to me. Phew, what a relieve! A super smooth third day!

The scales tell me I'm either 9st 9 or 9st 10 this morning, they can't make up their mind. Still, it means a loss of a couple of pounds, which is fine with me. Will have to wait and see if this is a temporary blip.Am I meant to feel any different? I don't, but I'm not sure if I should. If nothing else my liquid intake has been increased over the last few days, which it probably needed. I've never been good on the rehydration thing. Presumably that's the bit that actually flushes out the system - can't tell that the powder stuff I've been drinking is doing it or not. Oh well, it's not doing any harm anyway.P wants to come and see me on Thursday. He was feeling horny yesterday and emailed the various things he wants to do to me. Been here before though. Until he actually asks me where I live I think it's safe to say he isn't going to follow through. All talk, that one. It's looking brighter out there today. Still grey clouds around so I imagine there will still be rain, but we
Heads full of famous art, we were bussed back to the hotel for a late lunch. But food could wait -- Athens' archaelogical sites and museums closed at 2:30! I had seen something tucked against the lower slopes of the Acropolis that I did not want to miss.(Read on...)
Next were the classical and Hellenistic art galleries, and I could have spent days here. A few samples of its fine collection:Bronze Zeus of Artemesion(Taking aim with a thunderbolt)Classical Period, c. 460 BCEThis imposing statue, like most bronze sculptures, was recovered from a shipwreck in the Mediterranean. Bronzes are very rare, since metal is usually melted down and recycled. Many marble sculptures are in fact copies, often by later Roman artists. Added treestumps and supports are usually a telltale giveaway of a copy.(Read on...)Also in This Section:Photo gallery of classical and Hellenistic Greek sculptureGifts featuring images of Greek art
After a quick bus tour of the city, past the Corinthian temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, and the stadium of the first modern Olympics, we arrived at the National Museum, Athens' largest collection of ancient art.The rooms are arranged in chronological order, and contain a hit parade of art history students' "must know" artifacts. The first room covers the Mycenaean period, remembered centuries later by the classical Greeks in myths, cults, and Homeric epic. The Mycenaean period for them was like the age of King Arthur for us, a time of great kings and legendary warriors like Achilles.(Read on...)Also in This Section:Photo Galleries of Greek art (Mycenaean, archaic)Recommended Links on phases of Greek art (art history)
Finally, we were given all of 15 minutes to explore the Acropolis on our own before racing back down the hill to meet the bus. I do not recall now how I managed to do as much as I did in that brief amount of time![...]At the west end of the Erechtheion I found Athena's sacred olive (said to be sprung from the original tree).(Read on...)Also in This Section:Recommended links on Erechtheion TempleRecommended books on Greek art and archaeologyGifts featuring photos of Acropolis monuments
We moved to the small Acropolis Museum, half-buried in the hill just east of the Parthenon. Now I'm going to get a little dry and dusty, and teach you some art history! It will help you notice more when you look at Greek art.The Acropolis Museum is full of Archaic (pre-Classical) sculpture, figures with enigmatic smiles, almond-shaped eyes and hair like Egyptian wigs...(Read on...)Also in This Section:Recommended links on Greek art and sculptureGifts featuring Greek art
Our first day with the rest of the tour group!A bus whisks us to the foot of the Acropolis around 9:30, saving another long hike. We have our exercise, however, making a rapid forced march up the winding Greek path and Roman steps to the Propylaia. From there the city stretches out below, with another fine view of the Temple of Hephaistos and Agora and the modern city beyond. We don't dilly-dally, passing the empty cage of white scaffolding (carefully painted to match the local marble) indicating the ghost of the Nike Temple above us on our right, the columns of the north wing of the Propylaia that housed paintings in antiquity on our left (see photo). Then we pass through the Propylaia itself and catch our first glimpse of the Parthenon...(Read on...)Also in This Section:My Parthenon and Erechtheion Photo GalleryRecommended Links on Acropolis and/or Parthenon
My routine in Tupiza has become something like this: wake up in the morning, have breakfast, wander around the town a little, meet up with Lili (who is staying in her aunt’s house), have lunch in her aunt’s house (where I get to try out typical Bolivian food), rest for a while and watch tv, walk around Tupiza as the sun sets looking for interesting things to photograph, then back to Lili’s aunt’s house for a light dinner, coffee, more resting and watching tv until it’s time to come back to my room at the Valle Hermosa hostal. This afternoon we walked to a neighbourhood called Remedios. There’s a pedestrian bridge that crosses the dried up river bed next to the town, and on the other side is Remedios. We followed the main street until we reached the church. There were some kids playing soccer in front of the church and when they saw me with my camera they immediately wanted their photo taken. When I showed them the results on the camera screen they went wild. Some of them eve
[Friday, 30 March, 2007]I was nodding really badly that I went to the bed and dozed off for some minutes before my mum arrived home. It was due to my work consciousness that I waked up in no time to continue with updating my sites. There was a little chat with Jianhao through MSN at the same time. I got too carried over by work due to the fact of the "dropping shares price†and eventually went to bed only at 6am and it took me quite some time to doze off with my plentiful thoughts mind.I was trying to sleep for as long as possible for I had to attend the course at night. Mingfa waked me up at around 2pm eventually and he dropped by my house soon as he was at Bugis. There were some sensitive discussions before he left at around 4pm and I continued with my work. Kaelyn called me to look for some information online. When I was on my way to the office, I realised I had forgotten to bring my name tag. Upon reaching my destination, I started off checking new quotation from Kaelyn, which w
[Wednesday, 21 February, 2007]My second day of "bai nian†was actually at my father's side - at my small uncle's house which was located at Hougang.I spent the early morning doing my website and chatting with Suimin. I was expecting very little sleep because my mum would wake me up for the house visiting but I woke up at around 11am by myself. My elder brother was not even home from his soccer game yet and I almost thought we were not going out anymore. After my brother returned and his girlfriend came to join us before we left for Hougang.Through familiar paths, we were able to get there. The house was still as beautiful as two years ago; everything was well-kept. Atmosphere was good with all the jokes around and we did some catch up. The most entertaining part was when my eldest cousin came with her daughters, the kids started to play hide-and-seek. Kids were so naïve that they tended to forget who were the people they were supposed to search sometimes. One of my nieces was
