      Six Random Things meme
Thanks to Eva who tagged me for this meme. Six random things about me: now to try to think of things a bit different that I haven't already talked about a lot, without getting too personal - here goes. Random thing 1: As it has felt like summer recently: I can't stand beach holidays. I find the idea of laying in the sun for hours at a time quite deadly dull; I could take it for maybe a lazy hour

      Six Quirky Things Meme
Paige Jennifer from Life Goes On, I Think has tagged me for a meme.It goes something like this: link to the person who tagged you (done), post the rules (almost done), write a list of six quirky things about yourself (keep reading below), tag six people to do this meme with links to their weblogs (perhaps), and then, if you are me, you can leave off some stuff, because you are lazy and you can't s

      5 things meme
"Delilah" over at "Floating in Space" tagged me for the five things meme. People with better memories that "Delilah" will know that I only did this last week, but fortunately I have a very capacious handbag and I can pick a different room just like "she" did, little rule breaker!I'm still disappointed that no chaps stepped up on their stilettos and claimed to be bag owners, but I can live in hope and give them all a second chance. Surely there are other people out their with aspirations to match Eddie Izzard?5 [more] things in my bag1. Palm pilot with flat battery that refuses to sync.2. Camera. Never leave home without it, battery always charged.3. Digital voice recorder. Never leave home without it, battery always charged.4. Teeny tiny perfume vial. I only wear one kind due to my un

      4 Things Meme
I do appreciate a good meme now and again, and since my friend Lori asked so nicely, I am going to do this one, right now. Maybe you'll learn something new about me. Maybe you'll discover that we have something in common. 4 Jobs I've Had: 1. Telemarketer--Go ahead, throw tomatoes my way. I was in high school and I made way above minimum wage, so I have no apologies for it. 2. Waitress--

      Seven Random Things Meme
I am supposed to be writing about Thanksgiving dinner today, but I’m having a hard time getting fired up about dinner for 6 - my parents, Sam, Rob and me, and a friend of the family who just lost his wife to cancer. My brother and his family would have bumped us up into the 12-ish person range, but they’re going to be with my sister in law’s family for Turkey Day. I know at this point that I will make a turkey (free range and brined), two kinds of stuffing (chestnut-sausage and “plain), mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, cranberry relish and at least two pies. Next Wednesday I’ll publish my countdown for getting everything done in time, but unless we can find more guests wandering the streets in search of a good turkey dinner, I wont be breaking a sweat over this one. So I am excited to say that Barbara at Bless Us O Lord has tagged me for a meme. Never mind that I asked her to tag me; it still counts, right? I have been DYING to be t

      5 Things Meme
Steph from Adventures in Babywearing tagged me to write 5 interesting things about myself. I’m not sure thre are 5 interesting things about me, but I’ll give it a try! When I was pregnant with my first I worked in a raw meat processingplant, out on the floor. I spent 9 monthes in near freezing temperatures and covered in raw meat. You do not want to know what your sliced ham looked like before it made it to the store. I went to a women’s school for college. My favorite part was no school football or basketball teams. I hate sports. I’m a trained and licenced doula. So if you ever need someone to rub your feet while you’re having contractions, I’m your girl. I’m also a certified breastfeeding councelor through WIC, so I can hang around and help you out after the baby is born too. I don’t eat fish, shrimp, or anything else that comes from water. It just grosses me out, and I have no clue why. I make my own laundry detergent. It’s ral

      Eight Random Things Meme
Well, it was inevitable… I got tagged on the Eight Random Things About Me meme by Doug Meacham. I was hoping to avoid this one… but it does seem like frivolous weekend fun. And it was cool to learn more about Doug. Here are the rules: Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write their own post about their eight things and post these rules. At the end of your post, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Don?t forget to leave them a comment telling them they?re tagged, and to read your blog. And now, eight random things about me: I proposed to my wife in Cannes, France on a dock at sunset (yes, I am a romantic) Childhood summers were spent on the Jersey shore (Cape May) or in Provence, France near Avignon Porsche Cayman: My fantasy car Science fiction really excites me (nerd!), and I think about social media in those terms. Favorite authors are Richard Morgan, Asimov, Tolkein and Will

      8 Things Meme
I've been tagged by at least 4 people for this meme, so I thought I'd better participate. Thanks to Kalbzayn, Bonnie Staring, Becca Furrow, and Lady Tess (if I've missed you, I'm sorry).8 Things About MeLike Bonnie, but unlike Mike, I like salted licorice – love it actually. It may have been my first solid food. (I’m Dutch)In fact, I’m not a sweets or chocolate person, and will go for savory every time. I also love cottage cheese with salt and pepper added. Or with fruit. Or with lettuce on a sandwich. (The Dutch also put everything on sandwiches)Two years ago, I lost 40 pounds and it’s all back on. My doctor says I’m lucky I didn’t go over my original weight because that usually happens with fad diets. Perhaps I should give up the savories and the sandwiches. In all fairness, I should mention I didn't stick to the 'maintenance program.' If you follow a diet, take my advice, stick to the maintenance program.I have no children, just t

Genasalae (Coconut+Jaggary stuffed Rice Cakes) and 3 Things MEME
Well friends, at last I am over (not entirely) with jetlag and homesickness. Thought I will start my new year's blog entry with our all time favourite Genasale aka Kai Kadabu (Kai means Coconut in Kannada) which is very well known and loved dish in Karnataka, especially in South Canara. It's so much loved back in India that its one of the main Prasad offered to Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. It is one of the easiest recipes and requires very less preparation and ingredients. So not wasting much of your time I'll straight away come to the point. Genasale Served with Coconut-chilly chutney and GheeIngredients:2 Cups Rice2 Cups grated Fresh Coconut¾ Cup Jaggary (according to taste)½ tsp Cardamom PowderSalt to tasteFew Banana Leaves GenasaleMethod:Soak rice in water for 1-2 hours and them grind to smooth batter with salt and enough water. The batter should be of pouring consistency. In a bowl mix grated coconut, jaggary powder, cardamom powder and a pinch of salt.

ONION GARLIC SOUP & 5 THINGS MEME
Here is yet another soup made by A for me when I was down with fever and cold (too much contact with kids during teaching makes you fall sick often). If you thought this soup was for only when one is unwell, I suggest you try it and you'll think differently. It's deceptively addictive, and you can drink a whole pot without realizing (which is what I did, and I had him make it again the next day:) ). Its a clear soup with a wonderful, deep flavor which whets your appetite without filling you up.INGREDIENTS:Onion - 2 medium choppedGarlic - 8 clovesHot SauceVeg Broth - 4 (he made a pot, remember!)Olive Oil1 Tbsp Cumin powderThyme, Parsley & Basil (dried seasoning)SaltLime JuiceMETHOD:Roll the garlic in olive oil and keep it on a flat pan or tawa closed (don't fry or saute). Roll it around after few min when you see it turn brown and keep it aside. Tip: Roasting garlic in this manner removes the pungency of garlic, yet gives it a strong roasted flavor. Fry the onions until brown using l
