88 years after the campaign by women suffragists in this country earned most American women the right to vote, we, as women, still don't have the respect we deserve.Yes, we had an extremely qualified woman, Hillary Clinton run, quite effectively, for the position of President of the United States. And yes, Sen. John McCain has selected a relatively unknown woman, Sarah Palin, as his choice for Vic
Last night, Brian Burres in his return the the majors after a brief demotion to Norfolk, looked like well, um -- the same Brian Burres.Meanwhile, his counterpart, Gavin Floyd, well, looked like he belonged in the majors. Floyd, who nearly no-hit the Orioles earlier this year, earned his 14th save and helped Chicago down Baltimore, 8-3, for their second straight win.The weakness of the squad -- the
GUARDIAN: 15 Child Brides used to Settle Pakistan FeudThe Guardian, By Declan Walsh, Thursday, June 5, 2008
It started with a dead dog, escalated into a tit-for-tat tribal war,and has now reached a grotesque climax with the exchange of 15 childbrides.

Lebanon's US-backed ruling coalition challenged their Hizbullah-led rivals Saturday, demanding that top-level talks in Qatar on ending Lebanon's 18-month old political crisis - which turned violent a week ago - also tackle the issue of Hizbullah's weapons.
What is Lebanon willing to do? They have a separate still within their borders that they created when they accepted "palestinians" k

In the midst of dealing with my mom’s hospitalization, I also had to deal with starting a new job. Lo and behold, in the very first week, I was reminded that the more things change, the more they stay the same. It’s a cliché for a reason. It’s often true!I went to training with 2 other new hires (Black and Hispanic). We have a White, male supervisor. It didn’t take three days of employment before he began spewing outright lies, repeatedly contradicted previous instructions and comments, and began to show that he is very manipulative. He did all of these things as he shot off one “joke” after another. In the midst of a corny joke was a lie or manipulation. Now, I’m not saying he did these things because he’s White or male. Maybe the guy is just an a**hole. Maybe he’s bipol
81% in Poll Say Nation Is Headed on the Wrong Track, yet the voters keep electing politicians with the same old failing policies and ideas. Obama, Hillary or McCain, it makes no difference. Not one of them is even close to what our country needs in a President.

And so unexpectedly.
Funny how you can put your trust in someone only to have it thrown back at you without so much as an explanation.
This is, obviously, a lesson I’ve yet to learn.
True, I don’t trust easily. But when I do, it’s a big deal. This was- this IS- [...]
The big brother house is jumpin’ - just like it is every Tuesday/Wednesday before a live eviction. The Dastardly Donado’s are working their agenda full time, and I for one am sick to death of hearing about Nick! Seriously, this guy did NOTHING but make moony eyes at Daniele at the expense of her boyfriend. But it’s so fruuuuuuuuussssssssstraaaaaaaating! (Rolls eyes) They’re raising him up to be some sort of saint, and Eric the devil in disguise.
In fact, after a late night meeting where the Dastardly Donatos worked their double teaming intimidation/whine routine on Amber, she freaked out about what I consider to be Eric’s one mistake - the holding of her personal story over her. She went and got Dustin, and said if she hadn’t have sworn on her daughter, she would vote him out and wants Dustin to do her dirty work for her.
Dustin flipflops so fast all I can hope is that he’s playing them all. Unfortunately, he flipflops so much depending on who
Ah, how quickly things can change.
Todays entry is that yesterday my husbands company restructured themselves and cut out a good number of higher level positions. All those people, across the entire country, now have to find other jobs by September 1st.
These are positions 2 steps higher than my husband, but that means a lot of experienced bodies will be applying for the same positions that my
The Orioles lost 12-6 out in San Diego last night.First off all, according to Roch Kubatko, the Orioles have extended an offer for Joe Girardi to manage the team based on an ESPN report. Of course, naturally, a team official denied it.The way things have been going with the Orioles and the media, the denial sort of sounds like “Baghdad Bob” declaring the Americans were not coming in to take over Baghdad before it fell to the U.S. military and Saddam Hussein was toppled. The rumor may have a lot of truth in it. Keep in mind; this is the same team that has not officially announced that Andy MacPhail is the COO of the Orioles, even THOUGH HE flew out with the team’s high-level brass to see Girardi.Oh boy, some days I don’t know what to think anymore. ***Anyhow, Dave Trembley got to manage the Orioles last night, and sadly, the same scene repeated itself – an Oriole loss; the ninth straight. There’s more on the game from the Baltimore Examiner, the Washington Post, and the Oriole
The New York Times reports today that House Republicans are delaying passage of a $37.4 billion dollar appropriations bill due to concerns over...earmarks. Of course, under Republican control, the number and amount of earmarks increased exponentially and now the Democrats are trying to get theirs.Ralph Nader is fond of stating that there isn't a significant difference between the two major parties and this news supports that view. Unfortunately, the system at this point is designed to perpetuate two party dominance. And such a system only encourages corruption--if the people only have two choices, indignation at one party only puts the other, equally unethical, party in control.Of course, it doesn't have to be this way. For one, the media can give more time to third party candidates and independents. Why not sponsor a debate for such candidates? Additionally, public financing of elections could break the Democrat and Republican party monopoly. Numerous political parties have emerged

I seem to have arrived at one of those crossroads in life that come up every so often. When I wake up tomorrow morning, for the first time since I turned 16 years old I'm going to be among the ranks of the unemployed. I've seen this coming for the last six months because my company acquired two others and found itself seriously strapped with debt and with more than a thousand extra employees. But still, now that it's finally happened, I find myself a bit stunned by the reality of the situation. I'm going to miss my co-workers and the comfort of working for a company that I know so well, obviously, but I'll also miss the daily walk that I took every noon:This is a view of the office building from the waterway across the street. The waterway walk was opened about two years ago and I put it to good use in all but the worst Houston weather. These are just a few of the things and places I passed along the path each day.I plan to take it slow for the next couple of weeks so that I d
Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine @ allmusic.com
The title isn't really a joke, actually. Machine Head do take some chances on their second album, The More Things Change..., expanding their brutal attack with gothic flourishes and prog rock pretensions without ever abandoning their blistering thrash metal roots. And that's good -- few bands have the appealing, gut-level visceral attack of
You know how the old saying goes: the more things change, the more they stay the same. Well, perhaps that’s true to a point. Let me present to you, Kentucky vs. Tennessee.
Kentucky came into the game in second place in the SEC East. In Second Place in the East. In SECOND PLACE IN THE EAST. Sorry, I had to write it a few times to believe it myself. Kentucky, bowl eligible for the first time since the industrial revolution, decided it would be a good time to try and make a run at beating Tennessee for the first time in 22 tries.
For the first time in the last few games, the score was very low, unlike the shootouts dating back to the Peyton era. Well, with both of those changes, Tennessee was still able to muster out a win, extending the second-longest win streak against a single team to 22 (c’mon Navy, you can beat those America-Haters).
It’s sort of like that time I tried not to have sex with all the hot girls in the room but, it didn’t work, becaus
