I'm saying this again, because obviously the message didn't get through the first time. Don't go out on to the ice after your dog.Only days after my first post, a woman ran after her dog, fell in, and had to be rescued. They both survived no thanks to the owner.Now, just yesterday, another owner who "knew better" went out on the ice, fell in, screamed her head off like a "little girl," and had to be rescued by a teenaged boy, Jared Vigil, who was going home sick from school (apparently not sick enough to hinder his heroic rescue).Guess what, the dog, "Willow," is just fine despite the owner, Connie Oswald, almost killing herself and getting a young man to go out onto the ice after her risking his own well being. December 21 marks the winter solstice, and some parts of the country are already experiencing freezing temperatures where ponds, lakes, and standing water are starting to freeze over. I live in the Southeast, the “Deep South,” so the only time we see ice is in our refrigerator freezers, but Christopher has included a brochure about Dog CPR. This is the time of year when thin sheets of ice are forming over the ponds near our favorite neighborhood dog walks. The same ponds Fido loves to jump in right after you've given him a bath, collecting untold sulfurous bacteria and slime in his coat, just so he can run over and shake off right next to you.The sad thing is, dogs don't understand ice on ponds, and it seems neither do humans once Fido ventures out on the ice. Danish rock quartet Spion (the Danish word for spy) wasn't picked as Gaffa's demo of July, but the review of the band's 2007 demo Tynd Is (Danish for thin ice) was still pretty good (4 out of 6 stars), so I decided to give it a listen. A rather good idea it seems, as especially the pulsing title track has blown me away completely. The drums sound like something that Mew could have recorded during the And The Glass Handed Kites recordings, and the chorus is one of those that will be stuck in your head for the next many, many days. Please don't let the fact that the band is singing in Danish scare you away, as this is excellent stuff! I went to Leonard Park in Mt. Kisco, New York to do some painting. There is a lovely Chinese style pavillion there overlooking the pond. The ice was starting to melt as the sun peeked in and out of the clouds. It's nice to finally get a little taste of spring!Last night was the opening of the Hudson Valley show at Freshman Fine Arts in Beacon. Many thanks to my friends and fans who came to see the show.
