It has always fascinated me that people of good will, people of letters, qualified people who study and earnestly try to understand the nature of addiction, can so often completely disagree with each other. Is drug addiction caused by a human being’s response to pain? Is it genetic? Is it socio-economic? Is it caused by [...]
Sean Motola here again with a interesting post... at least I think so ;-)Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I like to look at it as banging your head against a wall and expecting to make money for it. Doesn't usually work too well. There is apparently quite the debate amongst bloggers as to whether this was originally said by Benjamin Franklin, or Einstein, or someone else. Either way, its true. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is just not very smart any way you slice it. The same thing applies to any business. The businesses that break the mold and do something new succeed. Those that continue with the status quo eventually are shown the

R&B superstar Alicia Keys has clarified her controversial remarks about gangster rap that appear in the May 2008 issue of Blender Magazine.
The multiplatinum songstress told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show Tuesday that those comments were “misinterpreted” and she’s “disappointed with the “madness” surrounding the article.
She explained, “I feel that I wasn’t a hundred [...]

Things have got very interesting with Colwyn Bay, six games remaining in the season, and our destiny is in our own hand.

NEW YORK — There’s another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: “`Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. `Gangsta rap’ didn’t exist.”

Nature VS Nurture Theories of Personality in 21st CenturyNature vs Nurture theories have wasted a lot of energy of human beings. Plato is considered first to realize that you are made of not only flesh but also an intellectual soul. The issue may be much older…In Greek Mythology, when gods created man, they endowed him with divinity. However, the man started challenging them. They feared his potentials and decided to deprive him of the might.“Where to hide the divinity?” was the big questionThey considered heights of icy mountains, limits of shining stars and pits of the earth. But every place was accessible to man’s capabilities. Then they decided to hide it within the man himself.Since then the man has been climbing icy mountains. He has navigated deep seas. He has traversed moon.
Why do events happen the way they do? Why not something else? At a very micro level, we can ask if one assassination or birth could change things. At the largest level, observing hundreds of years of history at once, these micro changes seem to give way to material explanations. This, at least, is my opinion. So now I'm taking sides in the huge debate between materialists as nonmaterialists. For example, Marx was a certain kind of materialist when he spoke about history. He said that culture or great people did not drive history (I agree) but that resources and geography (I agree) created systems that competed and over time evolved towards the final utopian stage of Communism (I do not agree). There are actually a huge number of nonmaterialist arguments in popular media today, but

I’ve been thinking recently about conspiracy theories, and I have a theory about them. A couple in fact. I should also note that I’ve done no research, so these theories about the theories may be either well-known and verified or obscure and unlikely.
It seems to me that there are two primary reasons that people [...]

There's a pretty deep post about time travel and "Back To The Future" on Random Waves of Insight. It talks about how BTTF is like Timecop in that at the end of the movie, the woman is greeted by a man different from the one she used to know. There's also more in there about a scenario in which Doc does die. It's crazy to think about how something that bad could happen, especially given the incredibly upbeat context of the 3 BTTF films. Thankfully, everything evens out in the end...
After a cold and snowy start to the week, the view out my office window has blue skies, calm seas, and roofs dripping with melting snow and ice. In short, it’s warm in Maine and I am happy for this. Shortly after Hazel’s 30-hour sickness last week, both Megan and I caught strains of it. Since we’re older and frailer than our daughter, both of us have been sneezing, coughing, and (belly)aching ever since. Megan is about a day ahead of me in symptoms and recovery, so I should be out of the woods soon. Yesterday I was running a fever and was all loopy; I’m no microbiologist, but that high internal body temperature must be how my system destroys the virus or whatever much how napalm fire strikes can destroy people who live in a country we decide to muck up. This gives a whole new dimension to the term “germ warfare”.
While being sick at work is no fun, my sore throat and cough have given me a gruff, gravelly voice. With each phone call that I answer, I know that I am terrifyin
Although I mostly subscribe to the 'cock up' theory of history (i.e. most of what goes wrong is down to stupidity and incompetence rather than deliberate scheming), the conspiracy theory view is far more entertaining. It also makes for good stories. It occurred to me that the surprise re-appearance of the Sunderland canoeist did the government something of a favour. I guess he could have reappeared a bit sooner to save the government some embarrassment in their proxy donation scandal, he has managed to knock the story out of the headlines a bit.It would make a good story to assume that the security services knew where John Darwin was all along. Of course, it would do them no good to reveal that until his discovery was of value. And then, just when you think that the (New) Labour Party is actively trying to dig their own tomb, out pops an apparently long dead canoeist to capture the attention of the media.Makes you wonder. But if you really put your paranoid hat on, you have to a
Backed by years of his UFO sleuthing, Knapp said the sheer size and complexity of the subject is daunting."Unproven theories abound," Knapp continued. "We are pretty sure the visitors are ETs...or inter-dimensionals...or time travelers from our future...or manifestations of the collective consciousness. We also know they are benevolent guardians, evil reptilians, harvesters of souls or genetic materials, angels from heaven, demons from hell, or maybe androids dispatched by incomprehensible super-beings. It's a proven fact that they are here to help us, teach us, or eat us, or mate with us, or mess with our heads, or save their own species while they carve up our livestock, doodle in our wheat fields, and befuddle our most sophisticated technology."Are UFOs driven by teenage pranksters on a joyride through the cosmos, Knapp questioned, or perhaps anthropologists from a parallel universe, modern manifestations of pixies and leprechauns, or pragmatic politicians from Serpo--a planet of
There’s something definitely more about Sam’s relationship with the Devil. A couple of episodes ago, I think, the Devil didn’t want to talk to Sam’s dad. Like it’s more than a selling his soul thing. They reacted all too personally. Also, it would be much easier if the Devil just tell Sam on how to use the vessel or who the escaped soul is or are. He just leave clues instead. Kind of like he is training Sam.
So, my theory is, Sam is the Devil’s son and that girl Cady is his sister if she turns out to be the Devil’s daughter ( but eew they kissed in episode 10 : Cash Out ). His deal with Sam’s dad is that, they take care of Sam in exchange for something. The Devil has a thing for relationships with earthly women. Maybe he had one with Sam’s mom.

A theorist is a person who is ready to assume everything but responsibility.
An academic is a person who is ready to test everything in theory.

Recently I reported on both a contribution from 9/11 conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to Ron Paul and a payment from the Paul campaign to Jones. This raised questions as to why the Paul campaign would be paying money to Jones. The Corner reports that the $1300 payment was a partial refund of Jones’s $2,300 contribution to the Paul campaign. There is no indication as to why this partial refund was paid. This does satisfy resolve the question as to why there would be a payment to Jones, but the questions regarding the connections between Jones and Paul persist. The Corner also reports:
I fear that Paul isn’t about to denounce Jones, and it’s a shame. When Paul made his most recent appearance on Jones’s radio show, I asked the candidate’s spokesman why he continues to associate with Jones. I detected some quiet frustration in his answer that Paul had promised the interview and that he keeps his word in such matters. Considering that Jones’s entire operation e

The news has presented a number of theories. The entire medical blogsphere backed the parents of this child understandably. At the time, we decided to feature other missing children. We were afterall voted in the cynic's section of the Times awards. It is only right that we live up to that. We would like to compare this case to that of Dr Gopakumar. Dr Gopakumar was never charged by the police. The General Medical Council saw it fit to strike him off despite the level of evidence falling painfully short of the criminal standard. Drs McCann (Mr and Mrs) are now formal suspects. This is similar to Gopakumar who was a suspect. Drs McCann are not investigated by the GMC but Dr Gopakumar was. We simply question the discrepancy in the GMC's assessment processes. The Times tells us the following"At first, it was assumed that results of tests taken on traces of blood, hair and fibres found in the apartment prompted the Portuguese police to reinterview the couple. Experts at the Forensic Scie

As many are aware by now, Amber was evicted on Thursday, but not interviewed by anyone on Friday, not even on the CBS morning show with Julie Chen, or on House Calls! CBS issued a statement saying that they were going to truly sequester the remaining evictees so as not to influence them about the game. Many reporters - including AP and online sources - had declined to interview Amber (or Jameka should she have been the one evicted) because CBS insisted the press not ask any questions regarding Amber’s anti-Jew remarks.
The feeling is that these might unduly influence their votes in the end game for some reason. I could see Amber feeling bad that someone might think badly of her (BOY is she in for a BIG surprise!) and tossing a vote to

Author: Craig DilworthPaperback: 333 pagesPublisher: Springer; 2nd ed. edition (April 2006)Language: EnglishISBN: 1402038372(R)The Metaphysics of Science provides a clear, well-founded conception of modern science, according to which its core consists of particular metaphysical principles. On this view, both the empirical and the theoretical aspects of science are the result of the attempt to apply these metaphysical principles to reality. There is a flexibility in the application of the principles, however, so that, in their scientific guise, they may come to be reformed over time through scientific revolutions. This approach to modern science provides a unified conception of the enterprise, explaining such of its various aspects as the principle of induction, the nature of scientific knowledge and scientific reduction, the fundamental difference between the natural and social sciences, and the role of essentialism with respect to natural kinds. Furthermore, it pr

Such theories involve speculations and statements that range on a potency continuum from strong to weak. The term theory, itself, has been conceived of in various ways in the psychological literature. In the present dictionary, the strategy of lumping together all the various traditional descriptive labels regarding psychologists best guesses under the single descriptive term theory has been adopted. The descriptive labels of principle, law, theory, model, paradigm, effect, hypothesis and doctrine are attached to many of the entries, and all such descriptive labels are subsumed under the umbrella term theory. The

There are a number of conspiracy theories running around the internet this morning about why Peter Moore of Xbox fame decided to depart. Well beyond the standard HR response of “We are sorry to see him go” the speculation on the departure as either an accountability measure, or as part of a long range plan to move back to California, or some other reason about the 1 Billion dollar charge that Xbox is going to take to fix the Red Rings oh Death, it all adds up to a great morning.
On the Mini Microsoft/MSFT Extreme Make over.
The conspiracy theory runs around the idea of accountability
Of course, even if Mr. Moore was asked to head for the nearest exit, we wouldn’t want to piss him off over at EA. So, I’m marking this up as how it was presented, with zero amount of accountability being exhibited. Source: Mini Microsoft

A JAMAICA politican has urged security officials to back up their theory that former Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer was murdered, describing media reports to the contrary as a "global embarrassment" for the Caribbean nation.
Derrick Smith, of the Jamaica Labour Party, said the confusion raised by the conflicting accounts is jeopardising the reputation of the country's police, which launched a murder inquiry following Woolmer's death.
"Announcements emerging from police and medical authorities in both Britain and Pakistan indicate that Mr Woolmer's death was from natural causes and not murder as suggested by the Jamaica police authorities," said Smith today (AEST).
"The matter has become a global embarrassment for us."
Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious in his Kingston hotel room on March 18, and later pronounced dead in hospital, a day after Pakistan was eliminated from the World Cup.
A pathologist initially ruled the cause of death was inconclusive, but four da

Let's face it, ever since the days of Sapphos, lesbians have entered relationships at warp speed. The excerpt below is a passage from a poem written by Sapphos herself while living on the Isle of Lesbos at the time of Ancient Greece: "but come--if ever before having heard my voice from far awayyou listened, and leaving your father's golden home you came in your chariot yoked with swift, lovelysparrows bringing you over the dark earththick-feathered wings swirling downfrom the sky through mid-air arriving quickly--you, Blessed One,with a smile on your unaging faceasking again what have I sufferedand why am I calling again..." There's the age old running joke Q:"What does a lesbian bring on the second date?" A: "A U-Haul" and for some reason, all lesbians are guilty of going through this at least once in their dating lives. So what's up with lesbians and their tendency to progress in a relationship at lighting speed? Well, I've come up with a few of my own theories that I would li

Barnabe Googe was an English poet during the 16th century, well-known for the one line of poetry, “I did but see her passing by, and yet I love her till I die.”
Debbie Googe is a former member of the band My Bloody Valentine.
Since the L is usually green, the stem could be the L.
You can’t spell love without an L — some depressed graphic designers at Google maybe?
Google made a mistake and we’re reading too far into it.
Too many shopping malls. Too many squatters on the riverbanks. Too many villas on the southern hillsides. Or a curse hovering over the president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. With filthy water still filling whole neighborhoods a week after the worst flood here in decades, Indonesia's capital and largest city can add to the plentiful list of its troubles — like the misery of mass homelessness, power outages, traffic jams and the threat of disease — a babble of theories, recriminations and superstitious whispers about why the country is plagued by natural disasters. It is even possible to imagine that Mr. Permadi, the mystical member of Parliament, is engaging a little more with what is sometimes called the reality-based world. "From a spiritual perspective," he said, "there are two ways of looking at the flood" One of them, he said, is the bad karma of both national and local leaders. "The other is that it is now rainy season"
Nowhere are we more easily confused than in defining what is truly "art." While few people quibble with the sublime beauty of the Mona Lisa, or the timeless majesty of the Parthenon, a general consensus about some works of art leads us to disturbing and difficult questions like "Who gets to say what art is?" or "What is it about this artwork that makes it beautiful?" We do know that while the artist is trying to relate directly to his or her intended audience, the process of defining and appreciating art is facilitated by the theoretician and critic, who give us insight into the work, its nature and its place in the history of culture. There are many related theories of art. Aesthetics is the philosophy of beauty; aesthetic discussions engage us in disputes about the best way to define art. One theoretical point of view, for example, is that it is a mistake even to try to define art or beauty, insofar as they have no essence, and therefore can have no definition. Another is that art is

Years of developmental theory by many child psychologists, most notably Jean Piaget, have held to the view that children develop the ability to abstract representational models of their world after age 4. Piaget posited that a child, through physical interaction with his or her environment, builds a set of concepts about reality and how it works. A child does not know that physical objects remain in existence even when out of sight, a concept called object permanance.
Now researchers have conducted a proceedure that suggests they have that ability as early as fifteen months. Here is a lay article referring to the research. Until I see some more definitive information, I'll reserve judgement. Should this research stand up to the scrutiny of others, it would represent a major change and lead to a major rethinking of developmental model and theories of therapeutic intervention.

I have a huge post to work on about this past weekend but first I want to ponder something and maybe get the readers opinions on how this works.Daddy seems to naturally attract submissive women, and I seem to find myself attracted to more dominant men, but how does this work. In the club situation, we have people come in from all sorts of backgrounds, and yet when Daddy gets together with a lady or I am talking about a male I find attractive they always seem to fit somewhere into those roles. Without too much of a conversation with a woman I can also pick out the submissives as well. So what is it about us that gives off that clue? Our first example of this was with Anne, she actually sought Daddy out. Was it because there is a way he looks or acts that would attract a submissive woman to choose a more dominant male? And was it her submissiveness that he gave into rather than thinking she would just be fun to play with? The second one is A, now when A asked about coming to the club she a
