Looking at my website stats in the last month I’ve noticed that quite a few searches end up on this website with the word “nude” inserted somewhere in the keyword phrase. Now, I don’t exactly specilalise in nudes, but it did force me to take a second look at my nudes portfolio. The other day, I was cruising through the blogs that I've linked to on my right hand side bar --> and came across a really helpful article on Emily Murphy's Pottery Blog on how to make a textured rolling pin using a sharpie, a hot glue gun and a rolling pin. It clicked with me and I knew I had to give it a try - since I have been meaning to make some larger plaster texture plates. This is so much easier and less labor intensive. Check out her blog if you want to see the step by step instructions on how to make one yourself.Just the day before, I had pulled out an older lino-cut relief plate to use to imprint texture on a slab that I really liked. Unfortunately, I don't currently have a photograph of that bowl. I thought I would share a couple of images that I had taken after the floods had subsided enough for me to have a wonder around.As you can see when the litter is wet there is plenty of colour along with texture. Spiral Graphics, best known for its Genetica Texture Editor for Windows, has released the fourth free texture collection. Genetica is most used by 3D modeling professionals, but also by 2D illustration artists. What makes Genetica unique is that it uses presets to generate textures, thus making a resolution-independent format. This make possible to render textures up to 3000×3000 px, with the possibility of embedding effect maps. This fourth release includes a collection of textures, both in JPG and GTX (Genetica) format. GTX files are useful with Genetica Viewer which is distributed free. There are a variety of adjustments that can be made with Genetica Viewer, such as color changes, re-randomizing a texture or zooming it while maintaining seamless edges. This texture is the first of a long series of metallic textures I will be posting on my site for download. Some time ago I took tons of pictures of heavy construction equipment (bulldozers, excavators, etc) at a construction site nearby. It was the perfect place to get close-ups photos of gritty metallic surfaces. Pure texture heaven : dirty, scratched and rusty surfaces just waiting to be captured! I made this texture pretty seamless. To use in Photoshop, open the file. Then do a “Select All”. Then do “Edit –> Define Pattern” and voila’ you are now ready to fill any empty layer with this texture (use the paint bucket tool set on pattern for that). Also, I mainly must classify my own personal artwork as abstract expressionism, so bear that in mind too. I think it’s because I like to complete a work in one sitting most of the time. I also am experimenting a bit with texture here as you can see below. Media is currently only Ink and Watercolor Pencils on Bristol Board. Welcome to my new downloads section! Here I will share some of my Photoshop brushes, textures and tool presets with my website visitors. I thought I’d start with one of the canvas textures I created some time ago. This is a scan of brush strokes on cloth canvas. I have used it to make otherwise too-smooth digital paintings look more natural, like if painted on a real canvas. I suggest using this one as an Overlay layer over your art.
