I use the title in the sense that I now must choose. They are not directly competing of course. However the two companies have terms and conditions / policies that now conflict with each other.
For all of us web site owners who get traffic from google and also use TLA we are now in a quandary. Google is now lowering the rank, traffic, etc. of sites that it determines use text links as advertisements without the re="nofollow" attribute. This is due to those links skewing the search engines ability to properly determine a sites ranking, and how much rank to pass on to other sites it links to. Makes sense. Right now they are manually identifying those sites.

I was just informed by a fellow reader by the name of Yehuda Berlinger about Text Links Ads are doing away from TinyUrl. Yehuda has left a comment on my post about the response I received from TLA. She says TLA is working on a better solution and we do not have to change our affiliate links!

Has everyone seen the commotion over what has happened to John Chow (JohnChow.com) and Text-Link-Ads.com? Since I used to read his business blog, I was going to do a post on John Chow and how he is going down the wrong path, but I decided against it. It was just going to be evil anyhow. Speaking of “evil”, John Chow can’t even rank for his own name on Google anymore. Google has knocked his block off, at least in their search results. It’s a good thing for John Chow that the majority of his traffic comes from sources other than Google. He’s always said, “don’t put all your eggs in the Google basket.” That’s never been more true for him than right now.

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve scrapped the “The Good Blogs” widget from the sidebar of my blog.
It simply wasn’t performing well beginning only 19 visits from other blogs in the past 21 days. Considering the amount of screen real estate it was taking up, it simply wasn’t worth it.
I’m going to try running Text Link Ads in it’s place instead.

I took a few photos from work, and heavily edited them as not to get in trouble (you could kinda make out where I worked with the originals).
Okay, it’s hardly Mardi Gras, but a few years ago they did sod all. It’s nice that our local town is doing something - closing the main road to run a parade. There was also a few promotional buses parked outside of town - I got a Rugby Ball which I caught with a catch that’d make a Paul Collingwood Catch look ordinary. So it was a good day yesterday!
