It's nice to see McCain finally forced to play a little defense, poorly. During a Sunday interview show, George Stephanopoulos was apparently shamed into asking McCain at least one or two real questions about the senator's problem temper (though he failed to ask the obvious follow-ups). McCain variously tried to dismiss the stories of his screaming, cursing at, and scaring the hell out of colleagues as old news, exaggerations, lies, or the result of his"passion".
My first question is: which is it? Is McCain saying that his fellow Republicans who were taken aback by his temper are liars? But that's not the real point: McCain's goal was to distract from the real issue– that several prominent Republicans have questioned McCain's fitness to serve as president.

Today's Washington Post has a piece about John McCain that should make the rest of the media wake up and take notice. The article describes McCain's volcanic temper and inability to let go of a grudge. There are two especially remarkable things about the story: (1) several Republicans, members of McCain's own party, say that McCain's temper should disqualify him from the presidency and (2) tough guy McCain would not answer questions for this story.

I recently learned I’m eligible for a Cold War service medal for my late 70s-early 80s stint in the Air Force. Not being the sort who delights in wearing my old uniform bedecked with medals every Fourth of July, I probably won’t take the time to find all the missing paperwork to prove I’m entitled to it.
Besides, the Cold War was a pretty sweet deal for me. I flew around the world in my own semi-private airplane, visiting 24 countries on every continent save Antarctica and Australia. Most of my missions were logistical trips to deliver dependent household goods here or a planeload of live goats there (that’s a story for another day though).
