QuickCert is a company that offers information on various computer certifications. I was at one point considering getting an A+ Certification - just for my amusement. The cost turned me away, but not before I had signed up to receive their newsletter. I usually don't sign up for things online, but I figured it wouldn't hurt.Well, after getting bombarded with emails, I unsubscribed. That didn't stop them, and they just kept sending more. So I had to blacklist them as SPAM, but they keep sending advertisements from different email addresses.I can deal with spam, but now they've started to call me. A few times a month I come home to a message on my machine from them. The only problem is that I never gave them my phone number. They must have looked me up!QuickCert is creepy.

This has absolutely nothing to do with trading stocks but I feel like sharing this tidbit anyway. I get a ton of phone calls asking for money for this and that charity. They all sound like good causes and I'm sure the vast majority of them actually are quite worthwhile. The information I am going to share may be common knowledge to some of you, but I was totally unaware of it until my father-in-law told me about it a few years ago. Here's the simple question to ask whenever you are called on the phone and asked to make a charitable donation:What percentage of my donation goes to the charity?Assuming it is a volunteer making the call on behalf of the charity, the answer should be "all of it". However, every single time I have ever asked this question- and I've asked it dozens of times- it has turned out to be a professional telemarketer on the other end of the line.
