So yesterday I reported that Miguel Tejada had lied about his age to the league and to his teams. Here is a video of him being busted in his lie by ESPN:

Miguel Tejada tells Astros he’s actually 33, not 31
The Astros have had more than their share of headlines involving their new third basemen, Miguel Tejada. First he was named in the Mitchell Report for using steroids and now he admits that he is actually 33 not 31 like he is listed in Astros and [...]
I guess the whole Caribbean-South American age lying thing has reared it's ugly head again -- this time with former Oriole Miguel Tejada. One would not think two years in age difference is a lot of difference; however, in the game of baseball, it very much is. Two years in terms of development is crucial when a kid is coming up, advancement, attention given, skill set, and more importantly -- money invested.Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada has told the team he's actually 33, two years older than he's listed in the club's media guide and other baseball records.Tejada, saying he wanted rid himself of a burden, approached general manager Ed Wade and asked to correct misinformation he gave the Oakland A's when he signed in 1993, the Houston Chronicle reported on its Web site Thursday.Team officia
Tejada puso a gozar a 43 mil 483 fanáticos.
Lots of interesting contrasts with regard to forecasting Miguel Tejada.
I thought very strongly that Miguel Tejada will continue his decline in 2008. So imagine my surprise when I listened to two expert podcasters and friends of this site both set forth very optimistic projections of Miguel Tejada. The two guys in question are Tony Cincotta at Fantasy Baseball Mafia and Paul Greco of Melnick
Former MVP Miguel Tejada has arrived at Houston Astros training camp being protected from the press by teammates after he was named in the Mitchell report for allegedly using human growth hormones.Tejada said: "I can't really talk about that situation. Right now, I just want to talk about baseball, because that's really my focus." According to the report, Tejada used steroids in 2003, receiving them from teammate Adam Piatt. The FBI has also launched an investigation, which Tejada also refused to answer. Of playing with the Astros, Tejada said: "I feel like I'm born again, like somebody just signed me from the Dominican."Source: ESPN
In what is a continuation of a dark cloud over the Orioles organization, the names of Brian Roberts, former team members, Miguel Tejada & several others have appeared in the Mitchell Report.Right now, Roberts is still on the Orioles, but rumored to possibly be dealt; Tejada was traded to Houston yesterday. Former Sen. George Mitchell's report on steroid use in baseball released today mentions at least 16 current and former Orioles including second baseman Brian Roberts and recently traded shortstop Miguel Tejada. The others named are: current outfielder Jay Gibbons, who recently admitted using human growth hormone and accepted a 15-day suspension, and ex-Orioles Rafael Palmeiro, Larry Bigbie, David Segui, Jack Cust, Jason Grimsley, Jerry Hairston, Tim Laker, Gregg Zaun, Kevin Brown, Howie Clark, Todd Williams, Kent Mercker and Gary Matthews Jr.Well, for most hardcore fans of the team, most of the names are those that have been heard in the media before. Although there has been no real
By Stephen RhodesThe Houston Astros made yet another big splash in hoping to improve their team; according to Juan A. Lozano of the Associated Press, shortstop Miguel Tejada was traded Wednesday from the Baltimore Orioles to the Astros for five players. The Orioles got in return outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton, Dennis Sarfate and third baseman Michael Costanzo. Houston general manager Ed Wade said the Astros couldn't pass up the chance to add Tejada, adding, "The reality is when you are talking about a player of this magnitude, you have to go in with every expectation that the asking price is going to be very high and if you want to participate, it's going to be tough." Apparently, Baltimore thought that Tejada, 31, had lost some range playing shortstop; they tried to without success covnert him into a third baseman. Wade said that they're not that concerned about Tejada's range. Ironically, Adam Everett, Houston's starting shortstop, will become an unr
From the Baltimore Sun: "Two years after he first suggested that he'd benefit from a change of scenery, Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada finally got his wish as he was traded to the Houston Astros today in president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail's boldest move to date.In return for the four-time All-Star, the Orioles will get outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo."***It will be sad to see him go; however, at the state the team was in, there was no point in him still remaining an Oriole. The team is definitely going to rebuild, and for the amount Tejada was being paid, you need to have some like that on a contending team, not taking up payroll. Some might have criticized Tejada for his fielding, sometimes sulky attitude, and for demanding a trade, but for the time he was in here in Baltimore, I'd say he produced with his bat and for the most part played with unbridled passion until as of late.Maybe this mo
After a few days quite days, there has been another "blockbuster trade":"The Baltimore Orioles traded shortstop Miguel Tejada to the Houston Astros on Wednesday...[t]he blockbuster trade, first reported by The Baltimore Sun, sends five players to the Orioles -- outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third-base prospect Michael Costanzo."The big name here is obviously Tejada. And once again we've got a gap between perception and reality. In 2004, when has 28, Tejada was a very dangerous hitter, with a .311/.360/.534 line. Since then, his numbers have been in a steady decline. The most disturbing trend (if you're Ed Wade) is his ISO (SLG-BA), a good measure of a hitter's power (horizontal axis is Tejada's age, blue line is league average):This isn't a new thing. Players peak in the late 20s, then begin to decline. The Astros now get to pay $26MM for two years of the decline phase of Tejada's career. Either they keep him at SS, where
For those of you following the "Hot Stove" activity with the Orioles, it looks like there is a new player in the sweepstakes -- the St. Louis Cardinals. From St. Louis Today: Three days away from formally extending or rejecting arbitration to former World Series MVP David Eckstein, the Cardinals continue to explore alternatives that include the Baltimore Orioles' Miguel Tejada, the Pittsburgh Pirates' Jack Wilson and free agent Cesar Izturis.Tejada, the 2002 American League MVP, is considered one of the marquee names most likely to be dealt this winter, possibly at next week's winter meetings in Nashville, Tenn. But any pursuit comes with strings attached. Also reportedly coveted by the Los Angeles Angels, Tejada is unlikely to move before Saturday, when clubs must either offer or reject arbitration to their own free agents.I think the Los Angeles Angels are far better trade partners with the Orioles than St. Louis, just for the fact they have far more attractive options. Tejada, I t
With the signing of Torii Hunter by the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, they finally have the protection that was sorely needed in the middle of the order for their slugger, Vladmir Guerrero. Now that Hunter is in center field, Los Angeles now has a loaded outfield with Gary Matthews, Guerrero, Garrett Anderson, outstanding youngster Reggie Willits, and Gary Matthews, Jr.However, what happens with all the players they have accumulated?I say one of them gets traded --- perhaps Willits. Alas, this is where the Orioles come in.As I mentioned a few day ago in a post, the Angels have targeted Miguel Tejada as part of potential solution to the left side of the infield for the past two seasons. With the trade of Orlando Cabrera earlier this week, it looks Los Angeles is setting itself up for a trade to get Marlins’ slugger Miguel Cabrera, or perhaps get Tejada as a second option. That being said, if the Angels do go after Tejada, who do the Orioles go after? With players such as Brandon Wood, E
The big talk amongst Oriole fans at the moment is not who will the team sign in free agency, but who will go via a trade. It may not be a question of if, but when?Obviously, the biggest trade chip the team has is probably Erik Bedard; however, lest we forget, we also have Miguel Tejada who is being dangled. By all indications, there is scant interest for him and the Orioles may be ready to deal at some point.Recently, the Angels traded away their shortstop, Orlando Cabrera to the White Sox for hurler John Garland. That being said, the shortstop position is open and more importantly, the Angels are woefully in need of a bat to power the Los Angeles lineup, but more importantly protect Vladmir Guerrero. One would think that the move would lineup a move to get the Marlins’ Miguel Cabrera, which is what would think is logical; however, Tejada might also be another option if Florida’s price is too high.Cabrera would be perfect, as he is young, has put up prodigious numbers season after s
I found this on Yotube, and I had never seen it until now and there's a good reasonThis commercial made in Puerto Rico for Pepsi's Latin American region (Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic). It stars Major League players, Bobby Abreu, Miguel Tejada and Carlos Delgado while they play a baseball game on top of the new Pepsi can. This was centered towards the Latino market.
Well, again, not much happened at the winter meetings today with this team. As I see it, the two biggest names who could possibly be traded are Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard. According to the Sun, Tejada is drawing scant interest and it may or may not mean anything, but it looks like a lot of GM's are taking a little bit of caution and taking a look at all angles."I don't think that [Tejada] is on the front burner for a lot of clubs," one American League general manager said yesterday.I would not read too much into the quote as it is only November, and there's still plenty of time for a deal to happen.I expect for Miguel to be dealt as I honestly just think he needs a change of scenery, and he's still a heck of producer at the plate. His fielding; however, does not leave a lot to be desired.A few bloggers, especially Ms. Mullen and Jason from My Baseball Bias have wondered about Tejada to New York. In light of the Rodriguez drama, he would be good fit for the Yankees, but I did not
Well, Miguel Tejada was placed on waivers not too after the trade deadline, read this by ESPN’s Buster Olney… Baltimore's Miguel Tejada and Oakland's Mike Piazza, two major stars mentioned in trade rumors during the summer, hit the waiver wire in the last week -- and one is now in a position to be dealt in August, while the other is not. Tejada was claimed on waivers by the Chicago White Sox, who may be looking for a shortstop as they consider whether or not to pick up the 2008 option on current shortstop Juan Uribe, who is hitting .215 with 11 homers and 43 RBIs. But the Orioles and White Sox did not work out a deal to allow Tejada to go to Chicago. The Orioles will keep Tejada for the rest of the year, sources say. Now do we think Tejada stays or goes in the offeason? Granted, a lot of teams put players on waivers to gauge their interest on the market after every trade deadline each year; however, are we assured now that Miggy’s time in Baltimore may be coming to
The Baltimore Orioles won easily last night in Arizona 7-1; however, Miguel Tejada is officially on the DL for the first time in his career, and the team may be very well power-deprived without him.It just shows you how much luck and good fortune you'll need in your career to even come close to breaking Cal's record. Playing in every game for seven years is amazing, but it's even hard to fathom what Ripken did, and thus, "the Streak" even deserves more respect. It didn't matter too much that Tejada was out, as the O's got a lot of help from a shaky Diamondback defense, and a commanding outing by Daniel Cabrera, who on this night showed while he can be real frustrating, he can also be downright brilliant and effective.Brian Roberts helped the cause with a home run, and sparked a rally that would lead the O's to victory.Meanwhile, Ramon Hernandez came off the DL, and batted fourth for the Birds. As well, Jon Knott (whom many have wanted up) is now on the roster, and will be probably
Well, the Orioles have had a week to remember.Perhaps it has only gotten worse. In light of their second win, defeating the Padres, 6-3; things might have gotten even worse for the Orioles. However, the offense led the way with 13 hits, and Bedard pitched a strong game before going out with injury. In addition, Albert Castillo homered for the Birds. In a week where Sam Perlozzo was fired, a new COO was hired, the Orioles were swooned and then rejected by Joe Girardi, and now slugger Miguel Tejada may be injured and put on the DL, thus perhaps ending his consecutive game streak. However, if he plays tonight, his streak is intact in light of what happened yesterday. Before I go on, my comments I made about Tejada both on this blog and on the radio were quite strong and perhaps out of anger, but I think was more more angry about seeing him bat once rather than give an attempt to play half a game injured. I got quite a few comments and emails about the topic and quite a few people brought abou
Once again, the Baltimore Orioles will probably make the news, if they have not already, because of the stunt by the team this afternoon. As "The Oriole Way" has gone the way of the dodo bird and Cal Ripken is retired and gone, the team has never been looked at the same way.It WILL NOT change after today, in fact, it may be worse now...Well, last night Miguel Tejada got drilled in the wrist thanks to a Doug Brocail pitch and was take to the hospital for a check-up. He was perhaps hurting today, but decided to play.Since, Miguel Tejada's has the longest consecutive games streak in baseball right now, he felt he needed to protect it (although in the past he's not made a big deal out of it). It's a big deal to him. It's still alive as Miggy felt well enough to play. Except he only got one at bat, and the team slugger bunted! After he attempted to bunt (?) and got on, he was removed for a pinch-runner not more than a second he got on to keep his streak alive. Here are words of wisdom from M
A’s vs. Orioles - May 27th, 2007Morning everyone! Hope everyone is having a safe and happy Memorial Day with friends and loved ones out there. As well, with the stuff going on a world away, take out a moment and remember those who are fighting over there. No matter you political affiliation or thoughts, the men and women over there deserve our respect. The Orioles whipped up again on the A’s at the Yard on a very hot afternoon, winning by a score of 8-4. Yesterday, Joe Blanton from Oakland was the victim of the red-hot Oriole offense as he served up homers to the triumvirate of Miguel Tejada, Melvin Mora and Nick Markakis. Miguel Tejada has resurged as the power hitter of this team, with his suddenly hot bat and finally hitting the ball out. Daniel Cabrera, thanks to the offense earned his 4th win, going six innings, striking out 5, giving up 4 runs, and he allowed Nick Swisher to touch up the Orioles for yet another homer, his 5th against the team. The Orioles emba
As Baltimore Oriole fans know, last winter, Miguel Tejada wanted out of the Orioles organization as he perceived that the team was not doing enough to be competitive. In 2006, his name appeared constantly in the media as trade bait, most notably to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. However, this winter, Miguel is singing a different tune. This time he's happy with the way things are going in Baltimore. In an interview with the Associate Press via the Baltimore Sun, he says:"I am extremely content with the Orioles," Tejada told The Associated Press. "I don't think anymore about those things that they have to do to sign players. I am equal to the others and I am going to do my job on the field."He also says, "I am not going to order them to make a contract with anybody, but I am the leader of the team and if I have to say something I am going to do so. I don't want to make anyone feel bad, but we all want to win and that is what we are going to try to do," he said.I appreciate Migu
