Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX-2) on prosecuting illegal aliens:
"Mr. Speaker...a memo that was just released from the U.S. Justice Department...reveals procedure and criteria for arresting, detaining, prosecuting and deporting illegals that come into the United States. According to this memo, Texas prosecutors...do not prosecute illegals until the sixth offense. In other words, they have to come over, get caught; come over, get caught; come over, get caught; come over, get caught; come over, get caught; come over, get caught, and the sixth time our Federal Government decides, okay, we get the message, we are going to prosecute you for your sixth illegal entry into the United States. This six time rule, five get-out-of-jail-free cards by our Federal Government...needs to be eliminated immediately."--March 23, 2007.

Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX-2): The hardest working man in Congress
Allow me to introduce the hardest-working man in Congress. Not James Brown. Not Mary-Kate and Ashley. I'm speaking of Rep. Ted Poe, Republican, representing the 2nd district of the great and independent Republic of Texas. Did I say republic? State...state! What was I thinking? Hardly a day goes by that the gentleman from Texas doesn't ask for and receive permission to address the House for 1 minute. You're thinking...what can you do in one minute? Plenty! Ask Hillary. Rep. Poe is a master of encapsulating a national tragedy into two paragraphs, usually ending with something like Overweight, polluting Mexican trucks driven by low paid, unqualified drivers that may not even be able to read highway signs is a dangerous policy for the citizens of this country! My first reaction is, policy? This is policy? My God, the post-Classic really has arrived! But the kicker--what Rep. Poe is known for, sort of like Elvis always ending with The Wonder of You and "You can have your b

Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX-2) on Corvette-winning 'illegal':
"Mr. Speaker, in Chicago, a 22-year-old woman is suing a Spanish language radio station. It seems she won a Corvette in the station's raffle, but the station won't give it to her...Why? Because she is illegally in the United States...so the Corvette was withheld. Never mind the station followed the law and the illegal is breaking the law by being in our country...What arrogance this illegal has. The lawsuit should be thrown out of court, and when she gets to the courthouse they should put her in the jailhouse and deport her."--Feb. 5, 2007.

      Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX-2) continues:
By the way, if you visit Geno's, try the panettone or the weiner gugelhupf. Bueno! The brichoes a tete--to die for. And those little snowball things, what're they called?--boules de neige. The kids love those! You can't go wrong with the eggplant parmigiano, the focaccia, the sfinciuni...hey, it's on the menu so if you can't pronounce it just ask one of those government translators the Commission made'em hire. Oh, and did I mention the torta pasqualina? Mama mia--that's Italian!

Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX-2) on speaking English in America:
"'This Is America. When Ordering, Please Speak English.' This sign is located in the window of Geno's Restaurant, tourist landmark for the famous Philly cheese steak. Philadelphia's Commission on Human Relations has been ordering its owner, Joe Vento, to take down the sign, however. Joe Vento is of Italian descent. His grandparents came from Italy. They were proud of their American citizenship and quickly learned English. But now the Commission on Human Relations is taking legal action against Vento...Individuals who come here need to understand that this country is not Mexico, France, Korea or the Middle East. This is America, and English is spoken here."--Feb.12, 2007.
