      An Update on Ted Haggard
Ted Haggard shared at the church of a friend that he was molested by a man at 7 years old. I am glad to see that he is facing the “inner secrets” of his life. There is no doubt that God’s heart for Him is the same as His heart towards all of [...]

      Ted Haggard and Jasper
In case you did get the baffling urge to send Ted a donation for his continuing education and “recovery”…  (see yesterday’s post)   Below is his letter and mailing address from Christianity Today. What’s even more nuts is that he’s toting his teenage kids into a halfway house for the homeless and drug addicts? What the fuck? What did Alex and Elliot do to deserve to be dragged out of high school life in picturesque Colorado Springs and into a Phoenix halfway house!    Is The “Dream House”, a place teeming with drug addicts and prostitutes, a healthy place for a 16 and 14 year old to dwell?  The story of this joker’s life just becomes more and more like a parody.  Each press release makes him appear a bigger buffoon.  Furthermore it was uncovered by Dan Savage and Seattle’s “The Stranger” on Friday that “Families with a Mission”, the organization that accepts money for Ted, is run by

      Ted Haggard and other absurdities
Your Sunday religion roundup: Like many adults, disgraced due to infidelity, religious hypocrisy, drug use, or not - Ted Haggard is returning to school to further his education! And good for him. Only he’s asking for “financial help” from his followers, or former followers. Whoever those are. Reason? He cannot “maintain adequate earning power” during this transition. And apparently he’s above applying for student loans, grants, or a part time job at Arby’s like most regular adults due when they need some extra scratch for tuition. From the AP “It looks as though it will take two years for us to have adequate earning power again, so we are looking for people who will help us monthly for two years,” the e-mail said. “During that time we will continue as full-time students, and then, when I graduate, we won’t need outside support any longer.” Haggard left the 10,000-member New Life Church late last year and res

      Ted Haggard
I’ve tried to ignore this whole matter, but due to the onslaught of questions concerning it, I’ll respond quickly. The day I heard about Ted Haggard (The Colorado pastor caught in a homosexual relationship) I felt as though I’d been kicked in the gut. It wasn’t the affair or the homosexual nature of the issue; it was the fact that once again the name of our savior took a slap in the face. The slap didn’t originate from Ted Haggards pants, and it wasn’t the leftist haters circling like buzzards, it was the response of the “Christian” community. The moment the news broke, evangelical leaders across the country started disassociating themselves from Haggard as quickly as they could get the coverage. As soon as the word “homosexual” was mentioned Christian leaders nation wide ran for the big red button on the wall to engage the emergency damage control center.Haggard is a man, which means Haggard deals with sin. Sin is a reality of life and each of us is guilty of failing

      Ted Haggard
Last week's news about Ted Haggard is quite shocking  (especially for those of us who just recently saw him in Jesus Camp), I can only imagine how it must be for the people who attend his church in Colorado Springs. I don't have much to say about it, other than to point you to two very good posts about the issue. One was written by John Spalding of SoMA Review entitled "Haggard and Truth" and the other is a post over at Think Progress entitled "Ted Haggard on homosexuality." One of my favorite quotes from John's article is below:"Who cares, you ask, what Ted Haggard is and is not willing to do with a gay man in a Denver hotel room? Whether he draws the line at tickling and pillow fights or rides the meth-fueled express all the way to Pleasure Town, it's none of our damn business, right? Except, of course, that Haggard makes other people's sex lives his business." [more here]

      Rev. Ted Haggard
The Rev. Ted Haggard resigned as head of the 30 million-member association Thursday and also gave up leadership of his New Life Church pending the investigation into allegations he had monthly trysts with a gay prostitute over the past three years. Haggard, a married father of five, denied the allegations, but the acting pastor of his church later said that Haggard had acknowledged some of the accusations were true. “I just know that there has been some admission of indiscretion, not admission to all of the material that has been discussed, but there is an admission of some guilt,” Ross Parsley told CBS4 late Thursday. Parlsey did not elaborate, but in an e-mail addressed to congregants, he wrote that the church’s four-member board of overseers had since met with Haggard. “It is important for you to know that he confessed to the overseers that some of the accusations against him are true. He has willingly and humbly submitted to the authority of the board of ove

      Don't H8 - Ted Haggard
One of the nation's most influential evangelical leaders admitted Friday that he visited a male prostitute for a massage and bought methamphetamine for personal use — though he said he threw the drugs away without using them.So he has been going backdoor with another man for the last 3 years, then going home to his wife with remnants of what that guy had for dinner last night still marinating on his cock, and he throws it up in his wife.I'm sure she feels pretty special right about now. Hopefully she didn't give him a BJ before hand.....

      Respect for Ted Haggard
As you may have seen from my previous posts, my small exposure to Ted Haggard on TV has not impressed me. However I have been impressed by his conduct over the immorality allegations. So many high profile preachers go into highly televised convulsions of emotion about how they were tempted and failed in their battle with evil. They make themselves out to be victims in some kind of cosmic struggle. By contrast Ted Haggard seems to be saying in his letter to his ex-congregation that he has failed in a battle with himself. Essentially he is taking responsibility for his own actions, both good and bad. So credit where it is due, Ted Haggard has made a good example of accepting his own human frailty and his own choice of actions.(c) Hal Westhead 2005
