Well everybody, this blog has only been around since March or so and I’ve already achieved a #1 Ranking on Technorati. For those of you unfamiliar with Technorati, it’s a social bookmarking site similar to Digg that allows members to bookmark favorite online articles and blogs. Additionally, it ranks blogs based on popularity; achieving a #1 Ranking on Technorati is a pretty impressive feat. Here’s a screenshot to prove it:
Ok, I’m not really ranked #1 on Technorati. It appears that Technorati has a glitch in their system that’s causing all blogs to appear to be ranked #1. I’m not sure what my actual rank is, but it’s a goal to strive for, so I wanted to post it. Thanks to John Chow for the heads up on this one!

Technorati is basically a Google type search engine that looks at blogs only and is updated instantly; the rankings are like Alexa as the lower the number the better your rank.
Today we will discuss more on Technorati Authority and how to improve your Ranking
What’s Technorati Authority?
It’s the number of blogs that actually link to you, therefore my site is currently 19, and hence 19 different sites have linked to me in the last six monthes. So having a good relationship with other blogs will help you to gain a greater Authority.
In fact, “incoming links” has been replaced by the “Authority” number. The higher Authority score, the better Technorati Rank. You will get same Technorati Rank as other blogs if both of you have same Technorati Authority score.

Wow I never expected my Technorati Ranking to jump so quickly. My Technorati authority was pretty low at about 50, and then I jumped on board the ViralTags Train early on. My Technorati authority is now at 409 and I’m listed in the Top 10k blogs at 9,190.
That’s pretty impressive and a real eye opener to how viral these kind of posts can be. I think in future I’ll opt for more content driven link backs like the one from ProBlogger, but it was a worthwhile experiment none the less.

This one is called ViraLink (great name!) and was masterminded by Andy Coates. Got it from A Day In The Life. Be sure to read the post about it over at his blog, as you may not understand it at first, but I assure you this could be a nice little link builder here. Instructions below:
1.) Copy and paste the entire matrix of “ViralTags” below.
2.) Substitute the Host Tag and one of the “ViralTags” in the matrix with your anchor text of choice containing your blog’s URL. Please keep anchor text to a maximum of 3 words to keep the matrix size manageable.
3.) When you get a ping back from someone that has your link in one of their “ViralTags”, practice good karma by copying his/her Host Tag’s anchor text (automatically the associated link will also be copied) and paste it over one of your “ViralTags” below.
4.) Encourage and invite your readers to do the same and soon this can grow virally.

As you all noticed, Technorati has included the Technorati Authority for blog listings and search results pages on its recent update. The Technorati Authority is the number of Links your blog is getting in the last six months. The old ranking system has now been changed:
It is important to note that we measure the number of blogs, rather than the number of links. So, if a blog links to your blog many times, it still only count as +1 toward your authority. Of course, new links mean the +1 will last another 180 days.
Technorati Rank is calculated based on how far you are from the top. The blog with the highest Technorati Authority is the #1 ranked blog. The smaller your Technorati Rank, the closer you are to the top.

There are some pricing changes going into effect with the next release of the marketplace later today. The most noticeable of these changes has to do with how the minimum offer is calculated.
