El Tapiz de Bayeux, aunque se le llame tapiz es en realidad un bordado. Este bordado es una obra del siglo XI donde en 58 escenas se relata la Batalla de Hastings y el inicio de la conquista de Inglaterra en el año 1066 capitaneada por Guillermo, Duque de Normandía, Francia.
Es una pieza conocida también como el Tapiz de la reina Matilde, que hace referencia a la leyenda acerca de que lo bordó ella y sus damas, sin embargo se cree que en realidad fue encargado a un taller inglés de bordado; lo que parece cierto es que fue realizado por varias manos por la manera diferente como se ve el revés del bordado; por degracia no he podido encontrar ninguna foto para comprobarlo. Hoy día, el tapiz está en exposición en el Museo de la Reina Matilde, Bayeaux, Calvados, Francia.
Mide aproximadamente 70 metros, son fragmentos unidos , tiene de altura medio metro y pesa alrededor de trescientos cincuenta kilos.
