Prior to this and a short post on Monday, the last article I wrote of any length was "The Legacy Of...Marian Hossa", written in advance of my absence and greeted by a lukewarm reception at best (too soon!)So with that on my mind, I stared down a Tuesday chock-full of "real job" appointments around the city of Pittsburgh and realized that once again, I would be posting zip, zero, nada during the wo
Talk Radio Network shock jock Michael Savage has been rightly vilified for his hateful comments about autistic children calling them "brats, idiots, and morons." What is equally appalling, and equally asinine, is the statement offered up in defense of Mr. Savage by his syndicator Talk Radio Network:
"The network is satisfied that he did not mean any disrespect to autistic children

Libs Want Regulation On The Only MediumThey Don't ControlFor years now, conservative talk radio has been beating liberal talk like a drum. The left has tried with Mario Cuomo and others such as the scandalous and quite boring Air America. Every single attempt has been an utter failure in spite of huge hype and mega bucks. In the meantime, Rush Limbaugh has flourished and Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin have consistently high ratings. WABC radio in New York City is the most listened to station in the nation and runs a 100% conservative lineup. Note this is in a city that is deeply blue. There's a new push on by the Democrats to re-institute the Fairness Doctrine , a regulation that would require stations to air equal content from both left and right. For instance, say a radio station airs three hours of Laura Ingraham, under the Fairness Doctrine, they would be required to air three hours of some liberal drivel such as Randi Rhodes or Al Franken. The problem is simply that l
What will our leaders in Washington think of next? We all know they’re up there in Washington, alternating between adrenalin and Zen, zooming around to meetings and trying to think of good things to do for all U.S. citizens.
One of those good things relates to an issue many politicians get a little squeamish over. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. And so did Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.).
I read the transcript of the two senators’ remarks at the Fox News Web site. Lott had already said, earlier this week, “Talk radio is running America.” He followed that statement with, “We have to deal with that problem.” Wallace quizzed Lott about those statements.
Lott dodged the quiz. He explained he’d been on a radio program and tried to explain the proposed immigration bill. It’s a complicated bill. “A lot of moving parts.” And it’s hard to get that across on talk radio—“It’s not that they’re maliciously trying to, you
So Hillary and Boxer are saying in public no less that right wing talk radio needs to be reigned in? And it needs to be via a legislative fix? Wow. Talk about dirty roundabouit tricks. How much you want to bet this is a lead up to resuscitating the so called Fairness Doctrine. I guess if the Democrats can't beat Rush Limbaugh in the arena of ideas this shady back door method is just as good for them. How pathetic is that? But as always the ends justify the means to liberals. Air America is probably crowing over this but they should see how ineffectual and impotent it reveals them to be. ~RJHBreitbart News story SENATOR CLAIMS: Clinton, Boxer Conspiring to Rein In Talk RadioBREITBART.TV EXCLUSIVE: Appearing on John Ziegler's evening show on KFI 640 AM in LA, U.S. Senator James Inhofe says he overheard Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) saying they want a "legislative fix" for talk radio.
I dont particularly care for Don Imus. I've heard him a few times and was unimpressed. But I know that he has quite a following. What he said was hateful, degrading and just plain dumb on so many levels. And if you have read anything by me you know I dont bow to political correctness. This isnt political correctness this is just someone being a real asshole. And a jerk. And neither one of those is the sole domain of whites, blacks, conservatives or liberals. But the fact is he is a white male and people consider him a conservative. I would argue that point but it's irrelevant at this point. His mouth has further fed the stereotype of white male conservatives being hateful and bigoted. I can see some people pointing at him and saying: See! See! I told you they were all the same. And its unfortunate that all sides have uttered those same words countless times. Do I think a person should lose their career and livelihood for a single incident of this type? No, probably not.
Recently, the Baltimore Orioles have instituted a new policy about talk radio and the fans who call into the various shows in the city and the surrounding area. According to WBAL, Orioles management, including Jim Duquette and Sam Perlozzo have been barred from taking calls from fans (from wbal.com). Steve Davis, a radio host on WBAL alerted the fans after finding out the new policy: He says "They're both great guys and wonderful interviews, and enjoy their interaction with the fans. I'm very disappointed for the listeners and callers. We had people call in to talk to them, as they always have, and Perlozzo and Duquette were told by the Orioles that they couldn't interact with the listeners." Davis says he's expressed his concern to the team saying "The fans deserve to have their questions and concerns addressed, and not to be stonewalled by O's brass. I hope the Orioles reconsider this decision." (wbal.com) Oriole Magic's Mike Boehm goes off about this issue in an eloq

Over the next four months, I have a feeling that I will keep returning to the theme of radio in politics. Demonstrably an amazing medium for reaching across socio-economic boundaries, essential for campaigning, radio will be playing a major part in this year's presidential race. As you might imagine, Talk ...
