Lake Tahoe is my favorite destination during summer. I was about to go there before July 4th but the wildfires had caused me to cancel the vacation so I will be planning next month. It is really exciting to see the wonderful lake in in the sierra. A great gift of nature.

Oh my goodness, I never realized there was so much to do at Lake Tahoe, all year round! Of course you have snowboarding and skiing in the winter, but just look at all the summer Tahoe lake activities you can enjoy. All I can say is WOW! The pictures are absolutely breathtaking!One thing Craig and I want to do is start finding mountain bike trails. There are plenty of trails around Lake Tahoe. There's an interactive map that shows where they are and how to get to them.We still have vacation time to take this summer. It would only take us about 9.5 hours to drive there. That's easy enough to do in one day! I am seriously contemplating it. It would be so fun!

The crew arrived at the the firecamp yesterday, at Heavenly Ski Park. They were kept in camp to prepare for day shift today. Sounds like the efforts to battle the fire within the first hours has paid off, especially with the help from the weather. The humidities are up, and the winds have died down. Sounds like the main fire activity has almost stopped. As of today, the containment is 40%. However, after having more than 2,000 acres burn, the mop up and containment will probably keep the crew there for a few days.
Since the fire began yesterday, rescue workers have evacuated about 1,000 people from the path of the ``very hot, rapid-burning fire,'' Kevin House, a lieutenant with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department, said today in a televised news conference. No injuries or deaths have been reported.
The crew has been ordered to the Angora fire near South Lake Tahoe. The Angora Fire is burning near North Upper Truckee Road. The fire is burning toward the the town and is burning in the beetle kill trees. So far, the fire has burned more than 800 acres and is spreading rapidly due to strong winds. 50 homes have been burned by the fire so far and more are threatened.The whole area along Upper Truckee Road is evacuated. Highway 50 is closed at Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

Ask me about snow and I don’t know where to start. I’ve only really been in the snow once and that was when Girlie Girl was 2 years old. Even then, she was feeling sick for most of the time so we pretty much just stayed in the cafeteria.
Now we’re planning a snow trip in mid-March 2008 and I need your help.
Where would you recommend that we go and stay? We would prefer to be somewhere on the west coast and it would have to be a kid-friendly place since there will be 4 young children with us (ages 18 months to 9 years old). Of course, we would like condo-type accommodation with kitchen and fireplace.

Automotive News [AN, sub] reports that GM's told its dealers that "the allocation volume for the Dealer Order Submission Process cycles beginning May 8, 2008, and May 15, 2008, have been canceled." Translation: the American automaker will no longer fill orders for the vehicles listed above. The General blames the shutdown on the ongoing United Auto Workers (UAW) strike at American Axle, which has caused a paucity of parts. The situation could be worse for GM, but it's hard to see how.
