Geo Tagging Your Website or Blog
There are some websites and blogs that are location specific such as for realtors, dentists, restaurants and many others who need to optimize their websites for the local marketplace. Local SEO has not come of age yet, but marketplace forces are headed in that direction. For those who want to be on the leading edge of [...]

Nokia Nseries- automatic location tagging is open to all, besides N96 and N78
The location tagging feature of the recently launched Nokia N96 and Nokia N78 have been much publicized besides others. For many cameraphone lovers like me, automatic tagging of location to each image (in it's EXIF1 data) is an attractive option, more so when this can be exploited with all major photo sharing sites to display it on map. But, my suggestion would be not to let this one application be the deciding factor for a particular Nokia N series model. You don't have to be from IIT to work out that if a device has a GPS (inbuilt or an external Bluetooth GPS receiver) and a camera, then attaching the GPS coordinates to image shot needs to be a cakewalk. Enter Nokia Location Tagger which tags images shot with its location data to be utilized for placing the images on map etc. It is

From being ban coming to the office for a week due to cough and flu followed by a carelessness act which cost me my Berry. A sequel of a case of break in at my office which cost me Pato's handphone and my wallet, not to mention that I had to take time off to make my IC, driving licence, ATM cards, etc etc plus, later a week of fever and sinus problem and I still had to fly to Jakarta for presentation that had me nearly fainted at Changi Airport - i thought someone probably's doing a voodoo on me!!!! You may thank Antique Mommy for this singular honor.Never let it be said that I shirk my duties, particularly in the blogosphere (By the way – if any of you believe I have shirked something, feel free to comment. I’m a novice.).So here’s the deal with this tag:1. Link back to the person who tagged you.2. Post these rules on your blog.3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.4. Tag six random people at the end of your entry.Thing number one: I grew up in Carmichael, California. Tagging People powered Metadata for the Social Web
Tagging is fast becoming one of the primary ways people organize and manage digital information. Tagging complements traditional organizational tools like folders and search on users desktops as well as on the web. These developments mean that tagging has broad implications for information management, information architecture and interface design. And its reach extends beyond these technical domains to our culture at large. We can imagine, for example, the scrapbookers of the future curating their digital photos, emails, ticket stubs and other mementos with tags. This book explains the value of tagging, explores why people tag, how tagging works and when it can be used to improve the user experience. It exposes tagging's superficial simplicity to reveal interesting issues related to us

I should have jumped in to this had I practiced reading blogs when I drop my EntreCards.I bet this is the one they call the viral thingy (/me speaking sosy). Yah, I know I should make some research first before jumping into the bandwagon but since Joan seems to be a is a fellow Pinoy and most of the times Pinoys in the blogosphere are reputable. ^_~ This is much fun though since it's interactive. Why interactive? Well, it comes with a series of questions that are supposed to be called as meme (bat wrong spelling?). Again, I didn't make any research about this yet so don't expect me to give you details. Just type Google.com on your browser and look for the word meme. Here it is.

Is meta tagging going to the death?
A moment ago I’ve read an article about meta tags and it refreshed my memory on how to write meta tags. But there are some webmasters says that, meta tags is face out on SEO trend. But two tips I found did help:· Meta Description Tags: Google displays up to 160 characters (including spaces) or about 25 words· Meta Keyword Tags: Search engines that support meta tags index up to 1000 characters (including spaces)Back to basic about the meta tag that still has relevance; the meta description tag. Meta descriptions have three primary uses:· To describe the content of the page accurately and succinctly· To serve as a short, text "advertisement" to click on your results in the search results· To display targeted keywords, not for ranking purposes, but to indicate the content to searchersGreat meta descriptions, just like great ads, but for keyword-targeted pages, particularly in competitive search results, they're a critical part of driving traffic from the engines through to

Photobucket is a unit of News Corp's Fox Interactive Media. The new tagging feature allows users to label a particular person or object within the uploaded file. Moreover, users can also link the file to other external sites for further reference. Basically, tagging allows the authour to organise media files with the help of multiple words that describe them the best. Before the introduction of this feature, Photobucket allowed users to search by headlines. So many a times, users looking for a monument called 'Hawa Mahal in Jaipur' would not find it because the photo was titled 'Hawa Mahal in Pink City'. Tagging your brand
As one of my biker friends passionately quoted the famous Harley-Davidson tagline “The Legend Rolls On”, I couldn’t help but wonder how a simple tagline so correctly sums up the tone of the product. No doubt Harley-Davidson is indeed the legend on wheels! It got me thinking as to why a tagline is required, what is its significance and how effective it is as a marketing or brand-building tool.Tagline enhances the value of a brand and gives it renewed vigor. Attaching a tagline to a brand is an excellent method of communicating the company’s vision and USP of its products. The tagline should ideally focus on the company’s line of business or the uniqueness of its products, highlighting the reason that makes the company or its product stand apart from that of its competitors. Most importantly, a tagline should be memorable. “The Complete Man” (Raymonds); “Bond with the Best” (Reid and Taylor); “Made For Each Other” (Wills) are some classic examples, which immediately b

      Wordpress 2.3, Tagging and SEO
Should you be looking at upgrading? Well, Wordpress is maintaining quite a rhythm of late in terms of new releases - these can often be time consuming if you are trying to maintain several blogs with up to date software as I am for the people I work with. However, I digress … as ever! Wordpress 2.3 Overview This version does seem, however, to be well worth the time and effort. From a purely business perspective, there are a number of elements in this latest version which are of particular interest to me, primarily the canonical URLs and tagging elements which I’ll explain in more detail below. But let’s a have a quick recap of all the new things going on first. The main additions in Wordpress 2.3 are: Tagging: native tagging as they call it which includes tagging in the main software rather than relying on 3rd party plugins (see below) Wordpress and plugin updates: lets you know when there are updates available either of the main Wordpress software or of the plugins th

A new tagging bookmarklet for Bloggers
Tags are useful to feature in your blog posts as they help your blog be spidered and categorised by social bookmarking sites like Technorati, Del.icio.us and BlogMarks. Tag links usually look something like this: <a href="http://www.technorati.com/posts/tag/bookmarklet?from=http://www.bloggerbuster.com" target="_blank" rel="tag">bookmarklet</a>. The most important feature of the tag link is the 'rel="tag"' part, which informs bookmarking services that the link is a "tag" and not just a regular link. Blogger labels are defined in a similar way. As you can imagine, it is a rather time consuming process to write out each tag individually, so instead I use a "bookmarklet" to do most of the coding for me. As I discussed in this previous post, I have been a faithful user of Oddiophile's technorati bookmarklet: this acts like a bookmark in my browser, yet when I click on the link it brings up a javascript window, into which I type the words I want to make into tag links. Email tagging with Taglocity
Tagging is a good way to increase productivity in reading or looking for something online. As you may know, tagging is an important part of blogs and other informational related sites which help simplify the search process. Taglocity has applied that very concept to reading emails i.e. particularly to Microsoft Outlook. If you suffer from email overload, Taglocity software simply tags a key word in your emails, contacts and tasks in an organized manner for you to search for it later. It even arranges your tags into a tag cloud where the tags increase by size according to how popular or important it is. Key features of Taglocity: - TagFilters These reduce the need for folders and folder hierarchies because each tag acts as a virtual folder. Tags can then be dynamically filtered by content as needed, or letting the software create tags automatically. - TagActions Automate common tasks with user determined actions that run when tags are set. - AutoTags Taglocity learns from how you

Generally I have close to 20 or 30 items in my queue which can be a bit daunting.  I frequently find myself wondering why I put certain items on my list.  Last week while watching AFI's 100 Years 100 Movies special I found myself adding tons of films and suddenly wishing I had some method of tagging everything. Veoh tagging in the player? Is it illegal piracy too?
I really like Veoh Player and how it allows me to download web videos, not just from Veoh but from other sites as well, for viewing locally. Veoh uses an extension (available for Firefox and Internet Explorer) that detects web videos as you surf and allows you to queue them for downloading in the player individually or to subscriber to channel feeds and have them download automatically. The only real issue I have with it is that I can’t tag videos within the player interface. The strange thing is that I can browser my offline videos by tag but for the life of me I can’t find a way to tag the videos in the player. This is the only thing that’s stopping me from falling in love with the player. On a side not, I find it strange that the Jeremy Allaire hasn’t (as far as I know) leveled the same criticisms against Veoh as he has at the, as yet, unreleased RealPlayer.  I wonder why that is? Has he just not gotten around to it? How about all the other sites

Will Photo Tagging Become a Privacy Issue?
The Harvard Law Review has published a short article on the implications of photograph tagging and facial recognition. FTA: When with close friends, people seldom present the same face they how to the rest of the world. But what if even the unguarded — and perhaps indiscreet — moments between friends were captured in pictures nd instantly available across the world in digital form? And what if a computer in some distant room could identify the faces in each picture to create a searchable database — a fully indexed catalog of life, captured in still frames? That technology is here. The effect of this technology, which creates an automatic, searchable pictorial documentary of one’s life, is multiplied by a dramatic change in how young people use photos stored on the Internet as a defining part of their everyday lives. The sales of digital cameras have exploded in recent years, with new camera phones alone generating an additional twenty-nine billion images in 2004. Billions of p

The difference in a typical directory classification though, is that tags are user-created, meaning YOU decide who gets grouped in whichever way suits you. MyBlogLog has Tagging Facility Now :)
In my previous post on the pros and cons of different methods of finding stuff on the .NET, I wrote that the lack of tagging for communities (blogs and/or websites in MyBlogLog-speak) in MyBlogLog made searching for sites of interest a major hit-and-miss affair :( Not anymore :)Now that the much-needed tagging has been implemented for members and communities, it should make finding other users and communities with similiar interests much easier. It should take a while for existing members to start tagging their communities before tags becomes a viable way of finding relevant sites. Or else you can help by tagging the communities of your friends with relevant tags :) Yup, you can not only tag your own communities but communities belonging to others too. Don't worry, they can always delete your tag if they don't like it ;pOne problem I can foresee is unscrupulous users intentionally using irrelevant but popular tags for their sites to appear in the search results and mislead visitors :(

Last book I read: Angels & Demons by Dan Brown - I’ve had this for ages and had never quite got round to reading it.  I have had a few train journeys recently so I picked it up and actually quite liked it.  I’m sure it will make a decent movie. (Reading How To Be Good by Nick Hornby now) Five Books That Mean a Lot to Me: (In no particular order): Dangerous Wonder by Michael Yaconelli This is a short book about the ‘adventure of a childlike faith’. Mike Yaconelli is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. I first heard him speak at Greenbelt years ago and his enthusiasm for living out a curious and mischievous faith captured my imagination. The book is full of stories that are a bit ‘chicken soup’ but also inspiring and challenging. The Lord Of The Rings by JRR Tolkein It took me ages to get around to reading these. I

Blog Tagging. What's It All About?
Ok. Maria did this tagging thing with me. She doesn't know either who started the game, but it's a fun and creative way to get links back to your blog. If you get tagged, expect to write a post giving your reasons for blogging, include a link back to the person who tagged you, then tag 5 other bloggers. Personally I blog to get readers to my site and to build friendships. I hope you respond to this tag game.

      Tagging the English Courtesan
The English Courtesan was delighted to be tagged for another meme by the Nubile and Naughty Nina, also known as the Lazy Geisha, in this post here, and is squeaking in just minutes before her midnight deadline! Nina stretched out her lacy-gloved finger, pointed at young Livvy and whispered ‘it’s yooooou...’ like an adults-only form of that National Lottery advert that UK readers may recall...This meme is about revealing 5 things that you haven’t yet disclosed in your blog. Nina’s threat/promise that she’d give the English Courtesan a sound whipping if she didn’t play was tempting indeed, but the English Courtesan likes memes, so she decided she’d do her homework and ask if she could still have the detention anyway… :-)So here are 5 things that you probably didn’t know about the English Courtesan…read on, my nosy readers!1) Despite her love of pointy witch shoes with ankle straps, The English Courtesan loves running around barefoot in summer. This means that althou

Tagging in WP 2.2 but what about UTW?
I see (via NeoSmart) that tagging will be a part of WordPress 2.2 without the need for additional plugins. What I wan to know is will the new tagging system be able to import my tags from UTW (Ultimate Tag Warrior)? If not, I’ll have to hold off upgrading until a solution is found. WordPress 2.2 is due for release on April 22nd. Update: As far as I can tell from this thread, 2.2 will have the ability to import UTW tags. blogging, blogs, plugin, Software, tagging, Tags, UTW, WordPress 2.2 This post originally appeared on Paul OFlahertys Technology Blog. © 2007 Paul OFlaherty Link to original post: Tagging in WP 2.2 but what about UTW? | No comments

      Geo tagging Photos in Flickr
Photos ” Geo Tagging” allows to add information about exact location where pictures were taken Main objective is first to remember where photos were shot , but also when publishing on the internet to show other people where the picture come from . Finally a site like Flickr allows to list on a map pictures posted by the different members for a given area , this gives a way to show different perception of the same location . Tagging of Pacific Pelagic (TOPP) research project
The Tagging of Pacific Pelagic (TOPP) research project explores the Pacific, using a carefully selected group of animals from its ecosystems to gather data about their world. As a pilot program of the Census of Marine Life (COML), an international endeavor to determine what lives, has lived and will live in the world’s ocean, TOPP scientists will tag individuals from 21 species of marine predators in the Eastern Pacific to obtain an “organism’s eye” view of their world. Jointly run by Stanford’s Hopkins Marine Lab, the University of California, Santa Cruz’s Long Marine Laboratory, NOAA’s Pacific Fisheries Ecosystems Lab, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, TOPP also includes team members from several countries. TOPP tests the effectiveness of using animals to gather biological and environmental data, tracking the individuals’ movements while recording valuable oceanographic and ecosystem data f

Fixed WordPress Database Error with Simple Tagging Plugin
I just downloaded the Simple Tagging 1.6 Plugin today and I got errors when I tried to convert the categories to tags on the import tags section. The following will explain the error, and how I fixed it. (I didn’t bother to do a search on this problem so someone else may have already posted a fix for it) To be safe, I downloaded and installed the WordPress Database Backup Plugin and did a backup of the database before running the import tags function like it suggested. So, once I got Simple Tagging installed, I clicked on the new “Tags” section then I clicked the tab labeled “Import Tags” and checked the “I’ve backed up my database” checkbox and clicked “Convert Categories to Tags.” When I did that, it returned the follow error: WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘p2c.category_id’ in ‘on clause’] SELECT cats.cat_name, p2c.post_id FROM wp_posts posts INNER JOIN wp_categories cats ON (p2c.category_

      Tagging and Memes
The photograph shows the English Courtesan's very own USB Christmas tree glowing prettily in the penumbra of a Yorkshire evening. If you've read the previous post you'll know she has a penchant for USB toys of all kinds and the sillier the better. This one is Olivia's favourite as it glows five different colours and when you press its button it plays carols in a dingle-doogle-bongle cheesy fashion! The English Courtesan was delighted to be tagged with a meme by the lovely Gillette, who some of you may know as Ex-Courtesan in Transition. The post was here and was a particularly splendid one as it celebrated the emergence of Gillette after a spell of blog hiatus. The English Courtesan had been saddened by the disappearance of Olympia (Postmodern Courtesan) and the continued hiatus of Thais (The Way of Hetaira), so the reappearance of Gillette was most welcome. You may well be wondering what a meme is, and so was the English Courtesan until it was explained to her. The challenge is to w

      CSA scrapped - Tagging Introduced
The UK Government annouces that the hated Child Support Agency (CSA) is to be abolished, and replaced with suspension of passports, curfews, and possible tagging for absent parents. CSA staff stage a walk out in protest. Fathers for Justice welcome the move (think Batman on Buck Palace). The tagging element has been played down since first mentioned, but then my lovely cartoon wouldn't work. How the hell do I draw a curfew?

      Community Tagging
I’m testing out a new community tagging feature, you should see a form to add people tags on photo pages now. Try it out, particularly on the Milan/WordCamp galleries - day one and day two. Proposed tags go into a moderation queue, so they’ll show up after they’re approved.
