Kalam means 'pen' and Kalamkari literally would mean 'Pen craft'. The name is believed to be derived from trade relationships between Persian and Indian merchants as early as the 10th century. Interestingly, European merchants had different names for similar textile art in their geography: the Portugese called it pintado, the Dutch used the name sitz, and the British preferred chintz. Textile Printing in India â€" Traditional Approach
By: fibre2fashion India is a country of diversities. It is rich in various embroidery techniques and printing techniques. Indian tradition is even rich in paintings and we can see that from the paintings of Ajanta murals and miniature paintings. In ancient times, the art of weaving and dyeing on cotton had been well developed, but it developed on silk later. In the fifth century, floral and geometric designs were popular in India and we can find that from the trade between India and Egypt. India is the first one who introduced the art of dyeing and printing with fast natural colors for the first time. For foreign travelers, indigo dyeing was a mysterious process because when the fabric is dipped in indigo bath, there is no color observed. Only when the fabric gets exposure to open air, the colors develop. The purpose of printing is for the adornment of the textile. Correct co-ordination between human skills and printing machinery is required. Many kind of printing techniques are there,

Stamp Duty Cut for Textile Mill Lands
Facing a strong protest from the mill land developers, the Maharashtra Government is bringing down the value of textile mill lands in its Stamp Duty Ready Reckoner by 10-20% in a couple of weeks. The proposed move will decrease the incidence of stamp duty for those who are considering purchasing residential property or commercial property on the mill lands undergoing construction. There is an increase in the values of mill lands, which were sold off to real estate developers by inviting open tenders, by 5 to 500% in its Ready Reckoner thereby adding to the burden of stamp duty. Currently, the stamp duty is 5%. However, the ambit does not include any residential projects, where it is Rs 7,600 up to Rs 5 lakh and 5% above Rs 5 lakh. The land value for the evaluation of stamp duty is seen on the basis of land rate and cost of development plus 25% profit in residential projects or 50-100% in case of commercial projects. Loes Hinse & Textile Studios Sew Along! posted by angie.a
I hesitate to call this a SWAP because I don't so much want to complete a whole swap right now, LOL. But I DO need some new items in the old wardrobe, and over on a LH/TS thread on the pattern board we've been thinking about doing a sew along or SWAP using Loes Hinse and/or Textile Studio patterns. I have several of these patterns that I just love to make, and they're already 'fitted' and ready to cut out. That's my kind of sewing! I plan to do a storyboard and plan it...I'm just not going to do all the pieces in a traditional SWAP. But if YOU want to do a SWAP using these patterns, by all means DO!! :D Anyone want to join me? :biggrin:Last post by Frozzy at Fri 18 Apr 2008 01:56:34 PM Total posts: 113 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Research Sewing Machines at P
