Seth Godin recently suggested that readers ought to click on ads adjacent to content that they enjoy. How bizarre? While I in no way disagree with the idea, the suggestion is fruitless. At best, readers should be encouraged to pay attention to the ads adjecent to the content they enjoy. The clicking is completely up [...]
A 60-year-old Palestinian woman died overnight Saturday from a heart attack during an IDF arrest operation in Abu-Dis, near Jerusalem.
To many this would be considered a tragic event. A poor elderly woman dies from a heart attack that was probably brought on by the sudden din created by an IDF raid. However, islamists can't allow it to pass without blaming the IDF of for being inhumane:
As I type this entry, Houston and Galveston, Texas are the prime targets for Hurricane Ike. Hurricane warnings extend from Baffin Bay, TX to Morgan City, LA. A huge evacuation of Galveston has either taken place or is in the final stages. Landfall is expected late Friday night. Hurricanes at night are a nightmare that cannot be described. So, I won’t even try. I know the fear, confusion,
I've found that having my arm in a sling gets me a lot of sympathy sex. Even women I haven't hooked up with in a while are stopping by just to give me that sympathetic look and rub my thigh a little. Life is complicated. As you travel through time and experience happiness and joy, there's almost always a catch 22. It doesn't seem obvious, but history validates this trivial fact. With moments of joys, life always delivers a sickening punchline.Life is not fair. As often as it brings new life into this earth, it often takes away our dearest people in the most unexpected time. This morning’s Cape Times stated that 16,000 Capetonians are in need of assistance following the storms of the past week.

It was evening and love couples sat in the park. Flowers in the park waved with the pleasing breeze of air. In the corner, Nancy sat supporting herself to the tree trunk. John rested his head on Nancy’s lap.
“ You know how much I love you. “ Nancy said, gently moving her fingers through his hairs.
John tenderly looked at her. Nobody talked for few seconds, an awkward silence was betwee

When I posted my thoughts on The Awakening I had a feeling that a lot of people would not agree with my rather lukewarm feelings, and it was interesting to read other people's views. Amateur Reader posed a good question though - how important is it to sympathise with a main character to enjoy a book?I found myself wondering about this after I replied - I responded that without empathy for a character in a book like The Awakening which is, in essence, about one person's feelings and experience, it makes the reading experience hollow.First though, there is a need to think about the words. Sympathy and empathy are not quite the same things, although I may at times use them as synonyms. Sympathy is the ability to share someone else's feelings, empathy is the ability to understand them and rela

There have been many combinations of family electoral success in the UK. In the House of Commons we have husband and wife (Nicholas and Ann Winterton), brothers (David and Ed Miliband), sisters (Angela and Maria Eagle), and many more examples. In local council chambers, many husband and wife teams exist. However, what none of them have ever done is stand against each other in the same seat!Wigan is going to be different this year. Tory councillor Richard Clayton is being challenged by his son, Richard Clayton Jnr, over his matrimonial behaviour. In this election Junior is standing as an Independent. He admits he is "partially" battling his dad as a protest against his father's conduct and says he is concerned about Coun Clayton's refusal to heed earlier pleas to stand down because of it. W

The ugly public allegations and counter allegations by the parents of Sivaji Raja and the comedian himself have actually dented the image of the actor considerably. The media went overboard and highlighted the issue very prominently. Both the parties traded accusations against each other. However, the majority opinion in the industry is that Sivaji Raja now has lost whatever little sympathy he had all these years. Some people who have watched him from close quarter say that he has this cruel tendency in him and he can go to any extent to get his way. There is some truth in the allegations made by his parents, say many people. A few said that Sivaji Raja's parents are very selfish and inclined to the level of filing a case on him. From the industry only Srikanth and Nagababu have come out in o

Orginally published on EURWEB.com 9.7.2004Michael Jackson is in the throes of another public embarrassment. This is getting to be routine. A Michael Jackson who is not wrapped in public turmoil almost seems "not quite right" these days. Actually, its the other way around. It's not the situation, it's the person. There's something "not quite right" about Michael Jackson. There's something going on with him that is out of balance or out of order in a substantial way. I dont know exactly what it is, but I do know that as far as Michael Jackson is concerned Hes "not quite right." I know, understatement of the year. Most of you are probably saying, "tell us something we didnt already know;" but it's deeper than that; much more systemic and disturbing in nature. This is not
As much as I support American business, I will not shed a tear for the fate of Winnebago, a company that is part of the problem. Winnebago and their ever increasing line of monstrous RV's is a poster child for over-consumption in America and one I would not mind seeing falling by the wayside. I don't think part of the original "American Dream" was to drive your house to your vacation spot.I love to travel and who wouldn't want to travel across the US in ultimate comfort? But at what costs? Gas grows ever more expensive and yet over the last decade you see more of these behemoths on the road, blocking traffic, churning noxious fumes and even towing a sedan behind them like a dinghy! Here in New England our roads are just as wide as back in the horse and buggy days - barely able to handle ca
One of the most difficult cards to send to a family or friend is a sympathy card. Why? Because if you are like us, you have many mixed feeling on what is truly appropriate for the situation.
But never underestimate the powerful message you convey by just sending a card at a time of grief. [...]
Discount sympathy flowers are bouquets or baskets that are given to a grieving person, so that they feel supported - and at a price the buyer can easily afford. Whenever someone hears that someone they know passes away, many want to rush to the side of the mourning family members and comfort them in their time of grief. However, due to distance or other circumstances, sometimes this cannot happen. A usual practice is to offer flowers in honor of the person who just passed away. The gift does not take away the pain or the fact that the person has left this earth, but it helps give a little happiness to the mourning that the family affected is experiencing. The vibrant colors of the flowers help brighten the mood that is already somber.Whether you plan to purchase a coffin spray, a basket of

This is a little thing I live by whether its right or wrong. Don't get me wrong, I can sympathize, empathize, show compassion, and feel bad for someone if they are in a crappy situation. I am not a heart of stone. However, if after a certain amount of time of hearing the same complaints over and over and knowing the person has done nothing to change their predicament; I lose the sympathy and just get tired of listening. I have been known to tell people after years of the same problem that unless they do something about it, I don’t want to hear about it anymore. Sometimes I have to take a look at myself and see if I am doing the same thing to others. I have been struggling with work lately and have even written a couple blog posts on it, because it really has been crappy and has been
Readers of the Crewe Chronicle might have noticed a piece about local taxi drivers complaining about Best Bus and Coach, a local company, that has launched a new service between Crewe and Nantwich. Basically, the bus firm offers a late-night service for pub and club goers at £2.50 return. There are 28 drop-off/collection points between the towns. Taxi drivers claim that this will hammer their income, create rowdy groups of drunken revellers getting off at the same stop, and also pose safety threats to single women who are forced to walk home from the drop-off point. When the new service was launched last week, Inspector Paul Broadhurst, who is in charge of Crewe Neighbourhood Policing Unit, was very positive. "A number of measures are lined up to ensure that people can go out and have a good time without facing danger on the roads or any type of disorder. We welcome any additional move to bring that about," reported the Chron. .Now on the income question I'd say that this was a compe
What do you all think about this? To be honest it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. What is bothersome to me is the competition will be held at secondary schools.
Guantánamo poetry competition at Amnesty.org.uk
We will be launching a poetry competition for UK secondary schools at the launch of powerful new book Poems from Guantánamo: The Detainees Speak at the HRAC on December 12.
Teachers will be invited to encourage students to imagine they are detained in Guantánamo Bay, and write a poem to express how it feels.
Many of the detainees who have contributed to the book were banned from using paper and pens, so were forced to write their poems on everyday objects such as Styrofoam cups from their dinner trays. To reflect this, participants in the competition will be asked to write their poems on objects such as Styrofoam cups, toilet paper, and clothes.
We are encouraging teachers to link this poetry competition to the 6th anniversary of the opening of Guantánamo Bay in January 2008
In the sky right now are fast moving Venus in Libra and Mercury in Scorpio. Bound up in the dance of everyday relations this two are forming the minor aspect called the semi-sextile.
As aspects go, the semi-sextile is pretty well ignored by astrologers unless it makes a significant connection in chart. Here Venus is squaring today’s Moon in Capricorn and Mars is sextile the same. What does this mean? Venus in Libra is concerned with maintaining harmony in relationships. Mercury in Scorpio communicates in underhanded and back alley fashion, allowing distortions of the truth to serve its purposes. The Moon in Capricorn is calling for pragmatism and reliability, not Libra’s strong suit. Mercury tells the Moon what it wants to hear, not intending to honor the agreements. Venus is silently agreeing with Mercury, annoyed because it cannot get the Moon to agree with it. In other words, Venus sympathizes with the devil today.

Really, no one likes to be threatened. NMP Thio Li Ann was first threatened to be ‘pissed on her grave’ by Mr Alfian Sa’at. A second threatening letter was sent to her but this time it was from an anonymous writer. The second threatening letter had stated that ‘we know where you work, we’ll send people there to hunt you down’.She is now like a dart board. Ever since her strongly-worded Parliamentary speech on the repeal of 377A which was peppered with words of discrimination from her religious point of view, she has received numerous criticisms from all over Singapore including myself. But to threaten Ms Thio and her family with bodily harm is completely against the “spirit of civil discourse and democracy’, as quoted from Mr Alex Au from yawningbread.org. I do personally condemn such actions as being uncivilised. Was the threatening letter from the members of the pro-repeal group? I certainly hope not, for it would further discredit their stand on this whole issue to
Acclaimed filmmaker Park Chan Wook returns to the director’s chair to helm Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, one of the most highly anticipated Korean films of 2005. The film marks the end of Park’s hugely popular Vengeance Trilogy”, a series of films that began with 2002’s Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and continued with 2003’s internationally successful Old Boy. Unlike most trilogies, this trio of pictures is united not by plot or by characters, but by its thematic content, namely, revenge and its terrible consequences.
Actress Lee Young Ae (Joint Security Area, Jewel in the Palace) takes up the leading role in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, portraying Geum Ja, a beautiful woman just released from jail after thirteen years of imprisonment. Her crime? The kidnapping and brutal murder of a young child. Through the use of flashbacks, it is revealed that Geum Ja was extremely kind and generous to the other prisoners during her internment, earning a widespread reputation as a veritable s
After being terribly disappointed with NMP Thio Li-Ann’s performance (here and here) in the parliament for her infamous, homophobic speech, she has finally earned my little bit of sympathy for being the target of a spate of ‘hate mails’. In my opinion, Mr Alfian Sa’at, a multi-literary award winner which includes the NAC-SPH Golden Point Award for Poetry and NAC’s Young Artist Award for Literature, should not have acted recklessly to include strong words such as “piss on your grave” in his email but use his excellent linguistic skills to rebut her. He has since apologised for his honest mistake and Ms Thio has decided to let the matter rest. Why Alfian posted copy of e-mail to NMP online IN THE report, 'Police question poet over e-mail to NMP' (ST, Oct 30), it was stated that I had 'emerged as the writer of the strongly worded e-mail to Nominated MP Thio Li-ann'. This might suggest that the exposure of my identity as the letter-writer was involuntary, and that it
Chiranjeevi is getting a very big sympathy wave now. Almost all the segments of people who have soft corner for Chiranjeevi are blaming Srija for damaging the image of his father with her infatuation. "She has no worries with respect to the image of his father or the health of her mother. She is very selfish. She got the guy she loved that's all", says a lady responding to the Srija's incident."It's a big curtain down for Chiranjeevi's political aspirations. He may not do his next film either. His career has come to an end. If he accepts Srija, it means he accepted Sirish with criminal background as son in law. If he shuns them, it means that he shunned the daughter for her love marriage. Both are pestering Chiranjeevi now as they affect his image in bad way", says another."Srija's issue is no way connected to Chiranjeevi's political entry. He need not feel that people wouldn't stand behind him if his daughter ran away and married", says the other citizen."Sirish would be a dang

I have a question for you all. Please allow me to set up the scenario, then give me your honest opinion on the matter.
I have this neighbor who I try to avoid speaking to at all costs. This guy is a passive-aggressive, player-hating, nosy, peeking-out-the-window like Malcolm X, dry snitch assed spy for my landlord. You can tell that he was the kid in elementary school who would point at other children who weren’t even in his class and say “Awwww! I’M TELLIN’! YOU’RE GONNA BE IN TROUBLE!”
Well, this weekend, I was relaxing outside, and I saw a lady walking her dog. The dog decided that it wanted to cop a squat and do it’s business right next to the driver’s side door of my neighbor’s car. There it was: a perfecly-placed, freshly-laid doo-doo land mine, right where any normal person would stand to get in his or her vehicle. About five minutes later, the neighbor walked over to his car, stepped right in it, got in the car, and drove of
"There's something sexy about a gut. Not a 400-pound beer gut, but a little paunch. I love that." -Sandra Bullock, American Actress and Movie Star, Sandra Bullock books and DVDs//
Man, I'm glad to hear someone likes the look of a little belly fat. I'm not sure if she's serious, though, because I don't know many people who think fat is fine. I did hear recently that "soft is sexy," but I think that was referring to women as opposed to men. As a young man, I had a hard body with some big guns. Now that I'm older, I've got the beginning of a spare tire with a big booty. I wish I only had a little paunch, but I guess I should be thankful that it hasn't grown into a 400-pound beer gut, as...

From our visit to EnglandLittle chap attempts to compose himself in the car. The wailing has waned as we make ready for our public appearance. We are in a holding pattern until we can return to civilization. [translation = the holiday flat] Fortunately I had a towel handy, as you do when you go for a beach holiday in the rain. I’m not certain what size of towel it really is? Too big for a hand towel, too small for a bath towel. Whatever size it really is, is unimportant, as it only serves the purpose of covering him from waist to mid calf. One corner of the towel is very soggy. It is soggy because he has been chewing and biting it for the last twenty minutes. I am uncertain why it should be, that people in great pain should find relief from their pain by biting? I do know that before the days of anesthesia, victims were encouraged to down a pint or two of ale or something stronger, and would have a cloth inserted into their jaws to bite upon when the pain became too much to
The Palestinian militant group Hamas, who now control the Gaza Strip, create an interesting dilemma for Western powers. On the one hand they are democratically elected, on the other they are a violent terrorist organisation.Hamas were elected in the 2006 Parliamentary elections, winning 74 of the 132 seats. The corruption of Fatah and frustration with Israel contributed to their stunning victory, which shocked the world and quickly raised questions of legitimacy and the future of democracy in the Middle East. Hamas then enjoyed a year long ceasefire with Fatah until this June, when renewed violence lead to Hamas controlling the Gaza Strip and Fatah the West Bank.Following their electoral victory, Hamas was sanctioned by most Western powers. Israel quickly withheld Palestinian Authority tax revenues, placed travel restrictions on Hamas members and improved security along their borders. The US and EU suspended aid payments, crippling the fragile Palestinian economy. US banking restrictio
13,000 Jobless doctors in Britain. No doubt the entire profession will be squealing away and justifiably so. While everyone sheds a tear for the above jobless doctors, we ought to look at the other end of the spectrum of doctors who have been jobless, like whistleblowers, those who are victimised, those who suffer from race discrimination and those who are illegally given alert letters by the Department of Health. They of course don't suffer any less for their unemployment, it is just that they go unnoticed. These are doctors like Tushar Bhadra, Dr Shridar Vaidya and Dr Sushant Varma. There is one thing common - they are all asian and were unemployed before MTAS. While Remedy UK spectacularly lost in court and achieved maximum coverage but the above doctors continue their journey making case law and winning against the system that has failed them. You see their suffering is observed to be less than the whinging unemployed junior doctors who could have prevented this from the outset.

The pioneering force behind the rise of trip-hop, Massive Attack were among the most innovative and influential groups of their generation; their hypnotic sound -- a darkly sensual and cinematic fusion of hip-hop rhythms, soulful melodies, dub grooves, and choice samples -- set the pace for much of the dance music to emerge throughout the 1990s, paving the way for such acclaimed artists as Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, Beth Orton, and Tricky, himself a Massive Attack alumnus. Their history dates back to 1983 and the formation of the Wild Bunch, one of the earliest and most successful sound-system/DJ collectives to arrive on the U.K. music scene; renowned for their seamless integration of a wide range of musical styles, from punk to reggae to R&B, the group's parties quickly became can't-miss events for the Bristol club crowd, and at the peak of their popularity they drew crowds so enormous that the local live music scene essentially ground to a halt. When the Wild Bunch folded during the
Indonesia, as usual, presents us with a dilemma. It is one of the least effective nations in dealing with their bird flu problem, exhibiting massive incompetence spiced by corruption. This has helped make them the bird flu epicenter of the world, with more deaths (by a long way) than any other nation and fast approaching Vietnam for most number of recorded cases. At the same time they have raised a legitimate issue: developing nations like Indonesia provide essential information to WHO on how to make effective vaccines against circulating influenza virus strains. WHO in turn shares the information with pharmaceutical companies who make the vaccines. The resulting product is too expensive for the Indonesians and others in the developing world and they can't compete with rich countries for purchase of the scarce supply. There is no short-term solution to the problem. WHO and vaccine makers can give in to Indonesia's demands for a guarantee, but it will be a pyrrhic victory since Indones
