The number of people injured after swimming at a St. Petersburg water park now stands at 224, up from 75 confirmed earlier, RIA-Novosti reported Friday.Forty-eight people were hospitalized with burns to their eyes and respiratory passages in connection with the incident, which occurred Wednesday at the Waterville water park."By 10:30 p.m. on Thursday medical assistance had been rendered to 224 people, of whom 181 were children and teenagers between the ages of 10 months and 17 years," said a spokeswoman for the city's medical department, RIA-Novosti reported.On Friday, a source at the Federal Consumer Protection Service confirmed that the poisoning was caused by a mechanical failure in the filtration system, which caused it to release toxic levels of chemicals meant to keep the pool clean.

Canadian indie-folkers Great Lake Swimmers take to the sea and beyond in their new video, 'Your Rocky Spine,' which finds the band propelling through various seasons. "We were really excited to work on this video with [director] Scott Cudmore," singer Tony Dekker told Spinner. In my opinion, these guys are quite good. They are a 4-piece from Toronto, Canada. Don't let that dissuade you. I heard about these guys about a year ago from a co-worker. She gave me a cd of some of their songs and I lost it. I recently heard them again on Sirius and then legally purchased all of their Mp3s. They've been signed to Nettwerk. Haven't heard about Nettwerk in some time, but I remember they had Skinny Puppy and Guster. The new record from Great Lake Swimmers is entitled Ongiara. The set will have a running time of about forty-two minutes, with a tracklist of approximately nine tunes. Among the possible songs making the cut are "Cemeteries of London,� "Violet Hill,� "Poppy Fields,� "42,� "Leftrightleftrightleft,� "Rainy Day� and the exclamation-happy duo of "Lost!� and "Yes!� The band is still "a few months from finishing� the follow-up to 2005's X & Y.

I'm really getting into The Swimmers lately, a four piece from Philly that, to be honest, are really not that hard to like. I think it was everybody cares that first turned me on to them, and I definitely owe him somewhere between one and three pints for that favor. The music itself is easy on the ears, sounding a fair bit like The Shins or Rogue Wave or maybe even The New Pornographers. Enough of my ramblings though, let's get to the tracks.The first one, "Fighting Trees", is just fantastic. It's ethereal without being too heavy, and I definitely think there's some harp in it. Harp. Really, how great is that? As far as I can tell, the song tells of a homeward journey of some kind, likely via ship and around the turn of the century.
