Sweeney Todd is a musical, but one which focuses less on the songs, keeping the action going while the actors sing their hearts out. Tim Burton has made a film that is both funny and gory, with blood splatters and tasty meat pies everywhere. Johnny Depp is great as Sweeney, talking with a dark crisp voice, his mind focused on one thing, getting revenge on the evil judge Turpin who sent him away. Depp makes Todd appear perfectly stubborn at times, adding much to the comic note of the film. Almost outshining Depp is Helena Bonham Carter, who at times is hilarious as Mrs. Lovett, who sells the worst pies in London. Together the two of them form a very charming duo. A small part is played by the brilliant Sacha Baron Cohen as the fraud Pirelli. He's outstanding as long as he's present. Sweeney

As far as I can remember, this would be from the movie The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. I'm talking specifically about that concluding scene where Annabella Sciorra push out Rebecca De Mornay to her death and plunge out the attic window down to the white picket fence below. The classic movie is founded on Rebecca De Mornay's character by pursuing revenge for her husband's suicide, and the turmoil she felt which led to her miscarriage and eventual lose of her baby. De Mornay, faking and pose as a nanny then attempts to kill Sciorra and take her family as her own. Sciorra's character fulfill her own sweet revenge after all. So, this post is about a new Johnny Depp movie called Sweeney Todd The best I can tell from looking around the site is that this is a cross between The Count of Monte Cristo [I like the one w/Gerrard Depardeau best!] and Fried Green Tomatoes annd Edward Scissorhands. I have fond memories of the story of Sweeney Todd - The demon barber of Fleet Street. First as a young lad seeing a production of the stage show that aired on television and having been recorded was a staple re-watch along with Mike Batt's System 605 and Orpheus in the Underworld. My next experience was actually appearing in the stage show musical of Sweeney Todd as the magician. Now, as I hope with these stories, a competent director and cast have reproduced it for the big screen. Burton is a style master, like Gilliam, rarely straying from his own set of ingredients and I appreciate that. Although I probably these days would never be bowled over by anything Burton does, I do the one thing that I love about good cinema, enjoy it.
