Located in downtown Sacramento Fort Sutter is a restored 1860 California outpost. Visitors including thousands of school children can take a look into the past and see how life was for the early Californians. The fort was only used for about ten years until the discovery of gold. Most of Sutter's workers headed out to the goldfields in search of riches. Today the restored fort is one of

Yuba City's western horizon is dominated by the Sutter Buttes, renowned for being the "Smallest Mountain Range in the World." The range is actually circular with a diameter of 10 miles and covers an area of about 75 square miles. The mountains are the remnants of a volcano that has been dormant for over a million years. South Butte, the highest peak is 2,117 feet above sea level. North Butte is 1,863 feet and West Butte is 1,685 feet above sea level. Before modern levees and dams were built to contain the rivers, winter storms and spring run-off frequently turned the Sacramento Valley into an inland sea making the Sutter Buttes an island refuge for Indians, settlers and wildlife. The Buttes have had many names over the years. The Maidu Indians called them "Histum Yani" which translates as,

Just want to say congrats to Ryan Sutter, who was my favorite bachelor, & Trista on their new son Maxwell Alston. Sounded like a difficult pregnancy with a scary ending. Trista had gestational diabetes and at 36 weeks needed an emergency C-section due to preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. All is well now though & Maxwell is very adorable.Gestational DiabetesPreeclampsiaHELLP syndrome
I have not been watching the Super Series between Canada and Russia, but when I hear about Alexei Cherepanov getting a tad concussed because of a Brandon Sutter hit, well then I want to see that. Here it is below. Can you believe he got a penalty for that? I can just hear Don Cherry screaming "Don't go in the trolley tracks!" or "Keep your head up!" That was a great, thunderous clean hit by Sutter, and Cherepanov is going to have to avoid cutting in the middle when/if he makes the NHL. He is out for the rest of the series. The Sharks have signed Patrick Marleau to a 2 year extension today. This officially ends the rumors that he would be moved and also makes Eklund even more full of shit.Did any of us smart hockey people really bite on the fact that the Sharks were shopping him anyway?**UPDATE*** US$12.6-million, two-year contract extension.TSN had a great interview with Naslund recently, and Naslund explained why his production dipped so much last season. He mentioned 'adjusting to t
From Jim Sutter’s rant against my rights:
Foehamer has worked hard to remain anonymous, thinking that the Internet will provide him with some sort of invisibility. Foehammer claims his biography is no one business. He claims this is because his “exposure of the evils of Islam will bring death threats or beheading.” When I asked Foehammer if he could cite one person in the USA who has been beheaded because of their “exposure of Islam” he couldn’t cite one instance.
I’m sorry but I’m looking around the United States and Europe, and damned if I don’t have a helluva hard time finding anyone that speaks out in the plain language that I do. But Jim Sutter would like me to die.
Some racists have been criminally prosecuted on charges of inciting violence or conspiracy to deny civil rights (as noted in other articles in this blog), and that is definitely a possibility with Foehammer, but I’m not in charge of that, it’s way above my pay grade. I expla
Well, actually, the toad has threatened me in an indirect way, but it amounts to a threat to the Anvil and, of course, my Free Speech rights. It’s a foolish move on Jim Sutter’s part, and I’m obviously going to run over the goal line with it.
Here’s the exact body of the email I just had waiting for me in my inbox this morning:
“John”, as previously shown, there is probable cause to believe that statements you have posted on your Foehammer sites are a violation of United States Code and are not protected by Free Speech. The statements are most definately hate speech, which hurt both the writer and the targeted group towards which the hate speech is directed. I strongly suggest that you tactfully announce you have decided to retire your Foehammer sites before Sunday, 8/19/2007.
Now, many are going to wonder who “John” is. That’s interesting isn’t it? Obviously it’s an attempt by Jim Sutter to guess my true
CAIR has reached an all-time low today. In an article on the CAIR website, the Islamist propaganda machine has actually referenced kooky Jim Sutter’s smear campaign as work to be taken seriously in the effort to shut down the free speech of author Robert Spencer and a circle of bloggers of which I am a known part.
In my opinion CAIR is on the run now. Such poor judgement in what allies to reach for in their constant efforts to staunch criticism of Islam and Muslims in the United States shows absolute desperation. This means that sites like Jihad Watch and the Anvil are having a positive effect. If we were not CAIR would not be making such fumbling errors.
From a statement by Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch:
CAIR may be interested in knowing more about their new friend the “Rev.” Jim Sutter, a somewhat pathetic character who, according to this website, was ordained by mail-order, is a convicted felon, claims to have degrees he doesn’t have and honors (incl
I finally sent a long overdue email to “Reverend” Jim Sutter. I made it quite clear that if I find proof that he has been behind the machinations that have caused undue distress to bloggers and readers of the Anvil, in addition to the constant libel with which he has already painted me a “hater”, then I will be left with no other choice than to gather a group of Texas lawyers and slap him with a Civil Suit that will bankrupt him.
I do not make such threats lightly. Back off, Jim, or you’re going to find out why my nickname isn’t Wallflower and how pro bono attorneys make valuable friends.
Enough is enough, is enough, you hypocritical troll. Go back in your cave and stay out of my affairs.
I will not issue another warning.

My favorite reality show couple, Trista and Ryan Sutter, welcomed a baby boy yesterday. Maxwell Alston Sutter weighed 5 pounds and 3 ounces and was born at Vail Valley Medical Center in Vail, Colorado, where Trista and Ryan live.
Trista and Ryan met on ABC’s first installment of The Bachelorette. They married in a lavish wedding that was televised in December 2003.

"In some ways we both come from the same school," Sutter said of Lamoriello. "I am not saying there won't be times where people disagree, but I have learned through it all, you don't want to agree all the time. You need discussion whether good or bad. The important thing is to make decisions that are right for the front of that jersey, that's what matters.""There doesn't have to be a tremendous amount of love between the players and their head coach. There has to be a tremendous amount of respect," Sutter said. "I demand respect. I demand hard work. I'll do everything I can and I expect the same thing back from the players."Sutter knows what he is getting himself into and how little job security there is being a coach of the Devils. But he will make this team work hard, and will have to find ways to make this team score by committee, as the departures of Gomez and Rafalski were replaced by Karel Rachunek and Dainus Zubrus.Sutter should do just fine, and the Devils will remain compe

John Holm opened by mapping the Sutter lean process with the Five Big Ideas. The project is in Mountain View, CA. It is a $100 million medical office building on a site that is 95% covered. At this time about 75% of the work is in place. DPR Construction is the GC. Some of those results

Using BIM to produce a setting for collaboration among the designers (engineers and architects) and the detailers (sub contractors). The result is a trusting environment.
Getting a 2x savings during construction
Significant prefabrications were delivered on a twice-a-day basis.
There was no rush to "get in first". People trust that others won't make their work difficult.
Lessons:
There's no such thing as a project that is over planned
Lean construction is safer than the usual approach. Only 2 cuts on hands during the project.
Specialty contractors need advocates to get actions quickly…perhaps
David Long described Sutter's process using Jeffrey Liker's 4P approach.1 Used the Five Big Ideas as the basis for the philosophical foundation of the lean approach. He claims the Five Big Ideas and the associated emergent outcomes have been the most important thing they have.
Starting with the idea of an elevator speech, Sutter developed a one slide statement of what lean is in a project setting. It finishes with
"The Right people talk about the Right things at the Right level of detail at the Right time."
The process currently includes:
Target Value Design (TVD)
Last Planner System® (LPS)
Integrated Form of Agreement — tri-party agreement between owner, architect, and contractor that other performers join as they are contracted
Network of Commitments
Continuous Learning, e.g. Plus-Delta
To those five items David added that it works when people are speaking (and listening) about the right things at the right times. He claims this five item approach allows them to sp

Trista and Ryan Sutter of The Bachelorette are expecting their first child"We are so happy after two years of trying," Trista says.Ryan, 32, a Colorado fireman, got the news from Trista, 34, a purse designer, when he flew into Denver International Airport on Dec. 18 after participating in a mountain expedition in Argentina."He was completely windburned and his lips were dry," Trista recalls. "We had a three-hour drive back to our home from the airport and I couldn't wait to tell him, so I pulled him aside to a quiet part of the baggage claim area and told him there."Adds Ryan, "I am happy to be able to finally be a dad."The couple won't know the gender of their child until the summer; Trista is currently 14 weeks along."I've had horrendous morning sickness," she admits, "but everyone says that is a sign of a healthy pregnancy."America's favorite reality show couple met while taping The Bachelorette in 2002.
