I'm here. And I am most definitely doing well!We moved, and so all semblance of my carefully ordered life was packed away somewhere and I have yet to find it. I cannot grasp my precious schedule- it slips through my fingers like the ribbons of packing paper I've saved to wash my windows. (That's right. I still have not washed my windows. Well, I did the front living room and the dining room. Those are the ones our company see the most...)As much as the morning sickness has found me over the toilet, with concerned pigtails peeping around the corner... "Mama? Need medicine?"... as often as the exhaustion has prevailed and my bed was chosen over school... as busy as the days have been settling into a new, larger home and realizing there is a whole downstairs I now have to keep clean... compan
One of the drawbacks with retirement is not having enough capital to sustain you in your golden years. It's a real issue which many don't seem to understand until it's almost too late.
Phased retirement has emerged as a real answer to this ongoing problem especially for people with hard to replace skills in the work force. By hard to replace skills, we mean having developed an expertise in
Now, it is no secret. Work is hard. Surviving in a workplace is hard. Gone are the days where people stay loyal to one company their entire life. My mother worked 1 job for 30 years before she retired. Growing up, I was amazed with that fact and I told myself when I got my [...]
Anyone who keeps a stray eye on feminist blogs will know all about Amandagate - the scandal surrounding the images in well known feminist and political blogger Amanda Marcotte's book, It's a Jungle Out There - A Feminist Survival Guide. This was the cover she originally chose: Howls of outrage over the obviously racist image ensued, and the cover morphed into this: On recent publication the book was found to contain more obviously racist cartoon images of Africans with spears...
A testimony of God's hand of protection amidst tragedy Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, began like any other day for Bethel Assembly of God deacon and Sunday school superintendent Stanley Praimnath of Elmont, Long Island. He got up early, took a shower, prayed, got ready and headed for work. The drive was uneventful. The train ride was the same. Yet, this day he would see the hand of God spare his life. "For some particular reason, I gave the Lord a little extra of myself that morning [during prayer]," Stanley said. "I said, 'Lord, cover me and all my loved ones under your precious blood.' And even though I said that and believed it, I said it over and over and over."When Stanley arrived at World Trade Center Tower Two, he took the elevator up to his office on the 81st floor. "I work for the Fuji B

Spring means many different things, to many different people. For individuals who live with seasonal outdoor allergies, it means finding a way to cope with months of discomfort every time they step outside. Each year, millions of allergy sufferers instinctively reach for over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs as their first line of defense. Unfortunately, not all users take the time to read and fully understand the potential side effects of these chemicals.Allergy medications work by suppressing the immune system to prevent the release of a substance called histamine. Under certain circumstances, haphazardly taking these medications could pose a significant health threat to individuals with a compromised immune system. Surprisingly, very few people are even aware that there ar

Many commentators have argued that today’s global ‘credit crunch’ has its origins in the relaxation of monetary policy following the bursting of the dot com bubble and efforts to avert a US recession post-9/11. Its impact on the global economy will be felt via the same transmission mechanisms that have led to past contagion. However, [...]

All I can do these past few days is breathe in and out and thank my parents for a roof over my head. We are exhausted...absolutely worn out from days of packing, moving furniture, dealing with contractors and electricians, tracking down missing hardwood floors, and extracting pennies from gosh knows where to pay for gorgeous new spindles.BeforeDuringCurrently our house looks like a disaster area, Miss Kitty is sleeping in my parents shower (much to her dismay), our food and all of our personal belongings are in trash bags in my parents basement, and AJ is having trouble with the transition (although he thinks it is really cool to break walls).

How does it feel when you receive an SMS and couldn't read it? How does it feel to get a missed call and couldn't get to know the source? How does it feel to use a phone without a screen? If you recall my N80's condition I posted a couple of days ago, you should probably know it's getting worse. Screen is almost completely dead now. It's like being blind, depending on the sound of keypad tones all the time to dial a number, lock keypad etc.. I thought, there must be a way to access my phone's data through my computer. You know, at least messages and call logs. Then I remembered a program I never thought I will really need sometime; Nokia Beta Lab's PC Phone. It's a software that integrates itself in Internet browser, giving you the ability to use your mobile phone from it. You can call
I received my first annual review for my job at the end of last week. It was probably the most stressful lead up to one that I have had. It is a completely new position for the company, new boss for me AND fairly nebulous goals outside of the ones that I set for the sales portion of my job.It actually went quite well, and even the slightly critical feedback was couched as a growth scenario. It started out with me being told that my boss is a "very hard grader" so don't be surprised by several people. After hearing that multiple times I started thinking...wow, this must be a massacre coming. I had visions all of poor grades, except for safety, which I still don't understand why it is on our review from for Directors and VPs.Our Grading system is this: 1-5 Point scale with 5 being top. 3 mean

Neil Strauss was until 2005 best known for his journalism and ghost-writing. Having written acclaimed features for 'Rolling Stone' magazine on seminal artists like Eric Clapton and Nirvana, he had gone on to ghost-write autobiographies for Marilyn Manson and Mötley Crüe, both of which were extremely successful; the latter greatly helping the band revitalise their career in the new millennium and is currently being adapted for the big screen.Still, despite his successes, Strauss felt there was one area of his life where he'd fallen short: he was unable to meet women. Being a very deep and intelligent man - Strauss claims to reread James Joyce's magnum opus Ulysses every three years for fun - didn't seem to help when he didn't even know how to introduce himself to a member of the opposite

Thank God for Fridays, At least I got to rest for two days. Pregnancy as always is not easy to bear, I felt always tired and sleepy. I also have food cravings and it’s a relief that weight maintenance is always not my problem. I’m just gifted with a slender figure and I never experienced dieting and I eat anything I like. Since college I always has a slim figure, my average weight is 95lbs and at nine months pregnant with my first child I only weight 120 lbs. This week I was having a hard time because I got cough and colds. My child also got sick so I have to take care of him especially at night because he perspires easily and I have to change his wet shirt often. by Chris RobertsonAt its best, going to the mall can be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, one where you have a chance to browse at your leisure, relax in the food court and sip a cup of cappuccino, and people-watch to your heart's content. Once your kids enter the picture, though, your leisurely shopping experience can turn into a race against the clock, with you dashing in and out of mall stores before your toddler throws a tantrum or your pre-teen sulks in embarrassment at her mom's poor taste. The pressure you feel increases exponentially when you're trying to find bargains and deals. You need time to search for the discount you want, and the distractions from your kids can keep you from finding those bargains on shoes or the deals on gifts. When your kids are with you, your shop
When a person becomes jobless little does he realize that many other people become jobless with them namely their family members. You had plans for them and there with one change they have come to a stand still. This is the power unemployment imposes on a person. If you are unemployed you still have an opportunity called loans. When a person is rendered unemployed he is a little wary with placing his possession as security. This is natural and a decision well make keeping in mind the dicey financial situation. If you still haven't built a home for yourself then it becomes doubly hard for you don't have a home for support. Unsecured unemployment loans can help surviving both short and long term unemployment. Unemployed homeowners have equal options with unsecured loans for unemployed.Ho

Some people may have been nursing a broken spine for a long period of time and not even know about it. That back pain may have been due to a fall during any sports activity such as basketball, skiing, horse-back riding or a football game wherein you've been misdiagnosed with only a broken right arm. However, after the injured arm heals, there seems to have developed an intense back pain that made regular activities such as sleeping and moving around too difficult to do. The pain goes on and would never seem to leave you. Aside from the stress and agony it brings, chronic pain can lead to other serious medical conditions.Acute pain is experienced as a direct response to injury or trauma which comes on suddenly and lasts for a limited period of time. The pain is expected to disappear as soon

You are sitting with a family that has invited you in for tea, one of countless offers of hospitality you have experienced since you arrived in the new land.
As you share stories of family, friends, travel and life you marvel at how easily people can bridge the differences between them. For that moment, everything is perfect. This is why you travel. World peace is possible, you think. All we need is tea.
Then with one question, your dream shatters.
"Tell me," says your host. "Why does your country start so much war?"
It's a traveler's nightmare: you are trying to connect across cultures with someone who suddenly wants to discuss polarizing issues such as war, foreign affairs, abortion, gay rights, feminism, or drugs.
Don't worry. Look at these conversations as a potential for meaningful cultural exchange. Use the following strategies to turn a potentially divisive argument into a rich dialogue.

The best prevention is avoidance. If you've got a steady stream of ideas to draw from, writer's block will never be a problem. The trick is to understand the ebb and flow of creativity. Harness the ideas when they are flowing freely, then stock up for dry seasons.
Because dry seasons will come. Ten new clients dropping into your lap, a new speaking engagement, upcoming seminars, and dozens of other wonderful opportunities can drain your time and energy. When the well of ideas runs dry, the blog is usually the first to feel the effects of the creative drought.
Even if you're in the middle of the desert, ideas may be flowing beneath your feet. Here are some ideas to help you draw water from the rocks.

Well we survived the season’s torture that is Carols by Candlelight, and it was actually a pretty good night. There was face painting, juggling ball making, balloon animals and a myriad of other things to keep the kids entertained with before the actual singing began.
Once the singing was underway Little Miss seemed to really get into it. She sung and danced along, of course the words were completely wrong and the dancing was awkward and out of time, but she seemed to be loving it. It was made all the more special by the glow stick belt, necklace, bracelets and crown with which she insisted on adorning herself.
She looked like a she was at a toddler rave or house party or something like that, but it sure made her easy to spot and there was no risk we were going to lose her in the crowd.
So put one in the win column - even if I was told not to sing as I was spoiling it!
Of course after the success of Saturday night’s carols adventure we decided to chance our arm and hit the
Robert Scoble is posting his helpful hints on how to survive 2008 if there is a recession, given the markets, sub prime issues, and a declining dollar, there is a real chance that growth will stall in 2008. If you feel like reading some sobering headlines check here.
Seattle though has some companies, and circumstances that make it easier to ride out a recession, even though we have a high cost of living, there are some ways to cut back, down size, and take refuge within the contracting groups here in Seattle.
There are four major contractor groups here in Seattle, VMC/Volt, HP, Robert Half, and TEKSystems that work with just about everyone. More contractors hold the keys to Microsoft, Nintendo, and a host of other companies in the area. Might be time to be a contractor while working on the projects that you know and love, and at the very least, this is one way to bring in an income if your web 2.0 project or startup is having difficulties.

There are no coincidences in the world and if you are reading this and don't quite understand how or why you found this blog -- there's a reason for it. A few months back I found out about a man named Robert Moss. I heard him being interviewed on a talk radio show. I liked what he had to say. He was promoting a book he had written called, The Three Only Things Dreams, Coincidences and Imagination. Several weeks went by and I searched his website to find that he was going to do a talk and book signing at a small bookstore about 15 minutes away. I was so excited. I went, got his book, and had the chance to ask him one question as he was signing my book. The question I asked was what do I do when coincidences happen. What do I do with that information. He answered by saying, "Think of it as
When the major stock market averages declined by 10% from their 2007 highs on Monday, we were in official market correction. Sentiment is negative owing to the economic back drop of, at best, tepid growth according to the Fed, or a recession.
Consumers twenty-five year credit binge fueled by home equity loans, credit cards arriving in the mail, subprime and adjustable rate mortgages and automobile leases, appears to be over. Savings rates has plummeted from 14% to 0% (perhaps to a negative number if home values continue to decline). Pile on top of that the banks debt problems, high energy prices, the homebuilding industry’s woes, weak retail sales and declining consumer sentiment, it’s no wonder that many investors believe a recession is in the offing.
Investors face two challenges right now. If the economy is headed into a recession, where do I put my money? And, if the economy avoids a recession will I be in the right investments

I was wondering, why is it that most of my posts relating to Japan are with trains? Am I beginning to be a densha otaku (train maniac)? Now way! Not with trains. Here are the most sound and best practices to observe with train travel in Japan. The trains I pertain are the JR East trains.1. Avoid rush hour.2. Avoid rush hours please.3. Avoid and please, avoid rush hours.4. When the train approaches, pay attention which coach has the fewest people possible.5. Avoid a coach with too many middle-aged men. Why? Because they are most likely the ones who have the force to push people when people try to squeeze themselves inside the train despite they knew that it is already jam packed.6. When getting inside, and if your destination is too far, go at the middle of the coach.7. Wear durable shoes, and clothes especially buttons because they are the most likely to tear, wear and rip-off in the middle of the commotion.8. When getting inside, have a keen observation who do you think will be the nex
Barely back home on safe German soil again after a dangerous surprise visit to the 3,000 German troops stationed in northern Afghanistan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced that she will continue to taunt death by accepting an invitation to stay at the notorious “Prairie Chapel” ranch in a place called Texas next week.
The ranch, owned by United States President George W. Bush, is a 1,600-acre chunk of central Texas land Bush purchased in 1999 which he often uses as a presidential getaway. Officially only reserved for those who Bush believes to be his closest allies, Merkel nevertheless fears, as do so many other Germans like her, that Prairie Chapel is actually a secret US detention camp located in Cuba used to incarcerate and interrogate enemy combatants captured in the international war on terror.
Although Merkel is convinced she can properly explain her visit to Afghanistan, and has in fact done her best to mend ties which had deteriorated between
After a busy final day of packing, an uncomfortable night of sleeping on the floor listening to a domestic dispute at 2am, and a nightmare about large scorpions emerging from under my oven, I awoke to the unpleasant task of picking up my 14′ Uhaul truck.
Around 8:15am, I drove to the local Uhaul location, where upon exiting my car, I was surrounded by guys who didn’t speak English well, and seemed to be looking for work. I made it into the office, where I had the opportunity to hear a woman get in a loud dispute with the staff about a dolly (the response she got was rather rude). Luckily, everything was in order for me. As I got in my truck, the guy who accosted me earlier showed up again. He and another guy put something in the back. Perturbed, I got out, opened the rear, and found a small dolly. I told them I didn’t want it, and took it out. I got in again to review my map, and the guy began to adjust my passenger side mirror, and though I appreciated the h

By: AntonyOriginally called the Intermediaries Legislation, but better known as IR35, this law was introduced towards the start of 2000. The purpose of it is to prevent tax evasion through the use of personal service companies. This is done, not by identifying those doing so, but simply by taxing such companies (which do have a legitimate purpose) the same as individuals are taxed. This law has become rather disliked, particularly by freelancers, who typically take significant risks in their business. If they have a well written conmtract, then it supports them, and highlights their self employed position. However, if it is poorly written, thenit can undermine them and even fall foul of the dreaded IR35.The easiest way to solve this problem, is just to have your contract checked over by an expert. A qualified IR35 reviewer will look over it for about 120. This is really a very small amount, considering the thousands of pounds that you stand to lose if you get it wrong. It's plain, good
By: Victor EpandThe recent events in Kazakhstan are a wake up call for devotees everywhere. I live in the US, which has a history of religious tolerance and respect for human rights, but in recent years, since 9/11/01 to be specific, there has been a systematic attempt by this federal government to dismantle basic civil rights even here. When you examine the contents of the Patriot Acts, the Military Commissions Act and several other similar laws that have been passed since 9/11/01, it becomes evident that the complete legal framework now exists to support a state of martial law. The discretion to declare martial law rests entirely in the hands of one man, the president. The Supreme Court or Congress cannot intervene or review the situation for at least 6 months. Needless to say, the civil rights we now take for granted including free speech, religious freedom, and all the rest could not be guaranteed during such a situation. When the president declares martial law such as in the event
On The Best Holiday Ever™, the best experience was Oktoberfest, a 2 week festival in late September in Munich, Germany, which features beer, fairground rides and fantastic food. I wish I spent longer at Okky, but alas we only had 6 hours at the festival. Of course, I fitted a lot into that 6 hours, and part of that was through speaking to people and being told how to act at Oktoberfest. Last year, we were half talking of going. No disrespect to Tom, Z, Guy and the rest of them, but I so glad I did it when we did. The reason being is that if we went with Tom, Z, Guy and the rest, we probably wouldn’t have got Oktoberfest Etiquette.
Yes, ironically it’s actually quite tricky to get drunk at Oktoberfest unless you know what you’re doing. Here’s three tips to make sure your Oktoberfest (which there will be one, you must go) goes well:

When winter decides to arrive so does the cold weather and temperatures can vary from mild cold to severely cold depending on where you are and also depending on wind chill factors. If you are unprepared for the cold it can have serious consequences so be sure to follow these tips for surviving the cold weather.Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures combined with moisture or wind can cause cold related injuries such as hypothermia or frostbite so it’s important that you always dress appropriately. Start by wearing several layers of clothing that fit loosely. That way your body will be insulated by trapping the warm, dry air inside. Wool and loosely woven cotton are best because they resist trapping moisture and dampness but are excellent at trapping air.Your head and neck will lose heat the fastest so it’s important to wear a warm hat and a scarf. A turtleneck also works well for protecting the neck. Your hat should fit snugly and cover your ears properly as they are prone to fros
It happens to the best of us. Sometimes, economic factors beyond your control cause a company to downsize. Sometimes, a merger or a buyout means that a company’s employees will be laid off. What do you do now?For purposes of this article, we will assume that our fictional, laid off worker did not have any savings, or money set aside in order to “weather the storm,” so to speak. To tell somebody that has been laid off to tap into their savings assumes that the person has savings. One cannot give advice about what to do AFTER one has been laid off based on assumptions of what one should have done BEFORE one was laid off. Do you see the problem with that?First and foremost, you cannot stay discouraged for long. Being discouraged makes you doubt yourself and, therefore, takes away your motivation to find a new career. If you are feeling discouraged, remember that statistics show that people now-a-days change career three or four times throughout their work lives. At this poi

Woke up with a headache- Pete & I were so tired last night. We were also a bit stressed and maybe wondering why the hec we got ourselves into this mess in the first place!
Yesterday was spent getting ready for her 14th party- cleaning the house, going to the store to buy cake, pop, chips, candy, then off to Target to get Balloons, party decor,a cute little gift from sister Eme, & a special necklace & earrings from me- so I could buy that cute sack I had my eye on to wrap her gift in!! We gave her money this year for her present.
I got home and got everything ready- this took me most of the day- and it was soooooo hot here I really hate living in AZ right now- this is always the time when we want to move! The heat is brutal!
By the time Jessica came home from School she was in one of her Moods- not acting at all like she even cared or appreciated what I did for her special day. To make matters worse she wanted me and her Dad to take her to the most expensive Restaurant in
With the summer seeming to be a long way off and the dark cold winter mornings set in many of us become affected by the season. Winter depression or the winter blues is also known as SAD, seasonal affective disorder; it is something that is thought to affect millions of people and it ranges from mild symptoms to the more severe.
So what are the symptoms of SAD? And what if anything can be done about it to enable you to survive the winter blues? The symptoms vary from person to person with it affecting some more than others; however the symptoms listed below are the most common with just the severity changing.
* Having problems with sleep is the most common, this usually is sleeping more than normal but not feeling refreshed no matter how long you slept. The feeling of not wanting to get out of bed and also needing to take a nap during the day is also common.
* Many people overeat during the winter months with a particular craving for carbohydrates; this of course leads to piling on wei
It is obvious that there is some bad blood between Dick Morris and the Clintons. He went from a trusted advisor to one of their biggest critics in the span of just a few years. I have read many of his pieces and found them insightful and humorous. It is obvious there is a certain degree of bitterness and while he does not sugar coat his opinions, he is not vicious or mean in his evaluations. Brutally honest but never rude is how I think of Dick Morris. This is a piece from several months ago but is even more relevant and insightful now than then. It's a good read. ~RJH The Hill article link Hillary's Experience is at SurvivingBy Dick Morris and Eileen McGannPolls suggest that the leading attribute attracting voters to Hillary's presidential candidacy is her "experience," a virtue which contrasts, presumably, with the lack of it in Senator Barack Obama, her chief rival. But a close examination of her record as first lady and as New York Senator suggests that her experience
Being a freelancer can be very rewarding, and offers both creative and personal freedom that’s pretty rare in other lines of work, but how the heck do you get started?
It’s all about surviving the first year, which can be the downfall of the unprepared, and serves as a test not only of your creative skills, but more importantly - your ability to sell yourself, plan financially and deal with difficult clients.
Preparation..
Once you get a taste for freelancing, you probably won’t want to go back to a regular job in a hurry, so in the early stages it’s all about making sure you have enough to live on for the first 2 or 3 months while business is slow.
Save enough money to keep you going for at least 2 months. If you can’t do this, don’t tell your boss to ’shove it’ just yet - you might have to freelance in your spare time until it starts to pay enough.

Masterclass "Surviving in the Research Marketplace"17.-18. September, Centre for Qualitative Research, Bournemouth University, Englandhttp://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/ihcs/rescqrmc07d.htmlThe workshop will explore the notion of a research marketplace and the role of grants, papers and networks in that marketplace. Participants will explore how to navigate such an enterprise-driven and 'evidence-based' environment, and how to meet competing demands and identities; such as qualitative researcher, employee, scholar, citizen. The masterclass will thus discuss both the theoretical and practical challenges of engaging with a complexity of roles, ideologies, and epistemologies that are often taken for granted, and which may require theoretical clarification and practical response. How to be successful and pursue meaningful qualitative research in such and environment: is it possible? This will be the challenging question that we will explore together in the masterclass. There will be an opportu

Statutory warning: This author urges you to obey traffic rules, co operate with traffic police and follow safe driving practices. This post only gives some basic tips on reducing inconveniences you might face with law enforcers and by no means encourages you to break rules. If you’re driving across on Indian roads, you would have probably noticed traffic police pulling over people (99% of them two wheeler drivers, traffic cop dashes in front of the speeding vehicle to make them stop and pull over). They do not check each and every vehicle on road, but pull over few vehicles randomly. How do they work and what are the steps I can take to avoid them?1. They try to identify the changes in facial expression of riders. Ideally, if you have some fault (say not having a Driving License) your face will show a sense of disturbance/insecurity when you see a cop suddenly (Oh! I didn’t bring my DL what shall I do if the cop asks for it). Traffic police are trained to note this change in facial e

Apparently Jennifer Ehle took some time away from her zinnia watching and returned to the Delacorte Theater to attend the gala performance of Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare in the Park. New York Magazine says:[...] Some of the celebs who’d stuck it out through the first batch of rain — Janney, Josh Hamilton, Liev Schreiber — bolted. Idina Menzel, in a poncho, pushed past us on her way out. Marcia Gay Harden was seen running for a cab, dress hiked up to her waist. But Tony winner Jennifer Ehle proved herself to be totally cool, running around in a white tunic dress. [...]BroadwayWorld has photo coverage, and although I can't find any pictures of Jennifer Ehle, there is one of Josh Hamilton. The New York Times also has a video featurette documenting the event, which is kind of fun. An anonymous tipster commented on a previous post that there is a picture of Jennifer Ehle in the June issue of Vogue. Apparently they called called her glorious and the "best reason to believe in the
School's out (god, I always get that song stuck in my head) and a summer of shopping, parties and the beach lies ahead. The only problem is, the front of every good store is covered with tourists. Much love to you guys, but it's pretty hard to walk into Bergdorfs with a hundred people staring and taking pictures. So, being the nice person that I always am ;) I decided to compile a list of all the things you need to survive the long hot days of summer, whether you're vacationing in the overplayed Hampton's or staying in the city.1. A Boyfriend - This applies to both settings. IF you don't have one, get one (preferably one by the name of Channing Tatum). They're especially useful when you don't feel like carrying your latest purchases (those SAK's bags get quite heavy!) 2. A Swimsuit - You do
A couple accused of killing their 4-year-old daughter by a drug overdose have been asked to allow their other two children to be adopted, one suspect's mother said. Michael and Carolyn Riley were charged with murder after Rebecca died Dec. 13 from overdosing on prescribed psychiatric drugs. The Department of Social Services has asked the Rileys to sign a "service plan" for their other two children -- a 6-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy -- which includes adoption, according to Carolyn Riley's mother, Valerie Berio. Berio said both parents have refused to sign the plan. If the Rileys don't agree to the adoption plan, the state can ask a judge to terminate their parental rights. The two children have been in foster care since Rebecca died. Prosecutors say the couple repeatedly gave Rebecca overdoses of psychiatric drugs prescribed for the girl after she was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar disorder. This from WAVE 3 TV.
I know a lot of you were done with your final exams a few weeks ago, but I have only now started to feel your pain. Exam week has officially begun for me, and I have to say - I’m not enjoying it.
Because I have four big tests this week and two next week, I may not be updating this blog much until after the 22nd. Fashion is a priority but of course my GPA and beating stress have to come first.
To make finishing exams a little more rewarding, however, I’ve decided to let myself go shopping after I’m done with them all. Here is my post-exam-week shopping list so far. (Note: these are the things I WANT to get myself. The budget may not permit my buying them all.)
The O.C. - The Complete Fourth Season
Hard Candy Eye Shadow Quartet - Suede
CARGO BeachBlush™ - Sunset Beach
This coming weekend, 28 Weeks Later (the follow-up to the mildly successful 28 Days Later) opens in theaters across the country. Because of this, I felt it was fitting to comprise a list of rules on how to survive the inevitable Zombie-Apocalypse. It is no longer a matter of if, but when it happens. Fortunately, little did we know, video games are being used as a mass training simulation and preparing us for the war against the undead. The training has come in small doses, but each of the major rules on how to survive a zombie onslaught has come straight from lessons learned in games we've played.Below you will find ten rules on how to survive against the undead along with the name of the game that has taught us the rule in italics beside it. I think we owe a debt of gratitude for game companies for their vigilance while others scoffed at the thought of a zombie outbreak. 10. Break Every Crate you Can Find (Area 51)It's amazing what you can find hiding in containers. Everythin

MP3s for the GRIND.Regular readers know I resurrect posts from time to time - especially when those blog entries are meaningful to the masses or even if they are personally relevant. Both are the case here. This is a work-mix I put together last fall when things at work were especially crazy.... Those days have returned and my attention and energy have been sapped. (We all know how that feels!) Rather than to not post at all - I have dug deep and brought this mix back to the surface and have added some important new tracks.I still got a real kick out of assembling playlists for you... by: ARA(ARA) - You’ve seen aspiring singing idols, survivors in the wilderness and gold-medal athletes. Now meet the Best Teen Chef in America Patricia Homma, who sautéed, roasted and whisked her way to the top award in a national high school Culinary Arts scholarship competition sponsored by The Art Institutes, a leading educator in design and culinary arts nationwide. After an intense two-hour cook-off, competing with 17 other high school seniors from around the country, Homma, an honors student at Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga., was awarded the gold medal and a $30,000 scholarship to attend The Art Institute of Atlanta. The competition was held at The Art Institute of New York City. Homma dreams of having all her family and friends celebrate every holiday at her home, the way it was at her mom’s house growing up in Brazil. After she moved to the United States in 1997, Homma began to watch cooking shows on television after school and was inspired to try some recipes and
Yesterday I found a few free moments to sit down, put my feet up, and read a magazine. Sounds like heaven, I know. I grabbed the latest issue of my MomSense magazine and flipped to the feature story called “Are You Thriving or Surviving?” The main focus of the article was mothers should not stay stagnent, they need to grow and change and mature just as their children do. As I was reading a small section stood out to me.
“But there’s a difference between learning and growth. Learning is gaining knowledge and growth is moving towards maturity.”
Wow, does that say a lot about why some parents choose to homeschool. Giving our kids an education is more than just learning, it is about helping them grow. Knowing how to add and subtract is great, what what about knowing when it is worth saving your money or worth spending it. Reading about animals will help you learn, but it can’t beat going out and getting your hands dirty on a farm. For every lesson that
Surviving dating for anyone at any stage probably has less optimistic survivor stories. Hopefully, a new dating service can help breathe life back into the otherwise lifeless dating scene. C is for Cupid is unlike any other, in that it's purpose is to help singles affected by cancer to 'connect' in whichever sense of the word. Their stated goal is create a comfortable, confidential, and compatible environment. Thanks for all your good wishes. I still feel crummy, but I feel less crummy than yesterday...so maybe, maybe this means it's not the flu? Surely if it were the flu I'd feel worse today, right? RIGHT?
Hubs made it home safely from Dallas--God in all His goodness plopped Hubs' car right behind a sanding truck during the only rough patch. He offered to stay home with me, sweet man, but the kids (remarkably!) had school today, even with all the snow. Corrie and I have watched Wicka-Wehwa (Cinderella, in two-year-old-ese) ALL day, and she loaded my sock drawer fulll of grapes (don't ask). Is it awful that there is a part of me which, even with all the feeling bad, is enjoying having an excuse to just REST? I guess you know you're a mom when the flu feels like a vacation.
I'm rambling, sorry--a little drunk on the fever. I spent the morning catching up on some blog-reading in bed, and I wanted to point you toward some gems (which you'
