As gas prices increase so does the use of public transportation amongst Americans. The increase is occurring in both places where commuters have largely been drivers like Charlotte, Houston and Nashville and in areas where commuters have traditionally used public transportation like Boston and New York City. Certainly, the nontraditional cities will have to expand their public transportation infrastructure. From the New York Times:“In almost every transit system I talk to, we’re seeing very high rates of growth the last few months,” said William W. Millar, president of the American Public Transportation Association.“It’s very clear that a significant portion of the increase in transit use is directly caused by people who are looking for alternatives to paying $3.50 a gallon fo

The onslaught of cars rolling into movie theaters this summer isn’t the cartoon kind. Rather, it’s an advertising barrage from automakers trying to get at the blockbuster crowd and driving double-digit segment growth in the medium.
With the hot summer-movie season around the corner, automakers are upping the ante for movie-theater advertising. Screenvision’s revenue in the segment for the first half of 2008 is almost double what it was in the first half of 2007, said exec VP-sales and marketing Mike Chico, who said he expects to sell out 2008 inventory in the third quarter, which is unusual.
National CineMedia’s Cliff Marks, CMO and president of sales, said his ad revenue in the segment is up by a double-digit percentage for the same period.

A surge in international prices of steel over the past one week and a commensurate fall in exports from China may well negate the Indian government’s hopes of cooling steel prices by slashing import duty to nil in the hope of increasing supplies. The government last week abolished customs duty on pig iron and mild steel items as well as metcoke, while imposing a 5-15% export duty on steel products. But during the week April 25 to May 2, export price of pig iron from CIS spurted 32% to $700 per tonne, while export of heavy plates from Latin America too was up 30% to $1,295 per tonne.Indian producers such as Tata Steel, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and JSW Steel, nudged by the government, have however promised to hold prices for the next two to three months. It’s earnings season again. But with an odd twist. You see, most investors realized that earnings season would be dismal; so when the results came in (pretty much) as expected, many investors seemed to find that the news (especially among financials) was not worse and went on a buying spree. By watching the trading "tape," you almost could "hear" what investors were thinking: JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) announces a 50% decline in first-quarter profits, and says markets will remain weak through the rest of this year and perhaps into next: No problem. As bad as the results were, they were actually better than Wall Street expected.Citigroup Inc. (C) says it lost $5.1 billion on a 48% decline in revenue and will slash 9,000 jobs - that’s great! "Let's 'Surge' Some MoreBy MICHAEL YONApril 11, 2008; Page A17It is said that generals always fight the last war. But when David Petraeus came to town it was senators – on both sides of the aisle – who battled over the Iraq war of 2004-2006. That war has little in common with the war we are fighting today.I may well have spent more time embedded with combat units in Iraq than any other journalist alive. I have seen this war – and our part in it – at its brutal worst. And I say the transformation over the last 14 months is little short of miraculous. The change goes far beyond the statistical decline in casualties or incidents of violence. A young Iraqi translator, wounded in battle and fearing death, asked an American commander to bury his heart in America. Iraqi special forces unit
~Snooper~Our men and women of the American Armed Services have expressed time and time again that they very strongly DEMAND that they be allowed to WIN. Perhaps this is why the defeatocrats of all political walks of life are so sad. They strongly desire and lust for defeat so they can win elections and this is indeed a sad state of affairs for this nation. My favorite information source is Michael Yon and I have been following his work from his very first posting. He has since written a book and just yesterday I received an autographed copy of the book, Moment Of Truth In Iraq, having ordered it when the email was sent out for special advance purchase. I am now nearly half way done with the book having just read SSG David Bellavia's House To House.Today, Michael Yon has an article in th

We keep hearing from Bush, McCain and other Neocons how “The Surge is Working” and see how much violence is down in Iraq? That is proof that the USA is on the path to victory. But journalists Nir Rosen (New Yorker, Rolling Stone) and Michael Ware (CNN) explained that while violence is down, it is a relative number — “only” 600 Iraqi civilians are now killed each month and troops casualties have been cut in half — it is mostly due to the deals that the US as cut with the former Sunni insurgents. Big fact from the session — of the 90,000 former Sunni insurgents, 70,000 are now on the U.S. payroll at $300 a month.
Rosen and Ware spoke at the Center for American Progress on the subject From The Ground in Iraq. They have both Been in Iraq from the begi

Petraeus to update Congress on Iraq | Reuters That call for a pause will likely rile Democrats and other opponents of the Bush administration's Iraq policy, who have latched onto the Basra fighting as a sign the increase or "surge" of U.S. troops last year failed to move Iraqis any closer to security or political stability. "I think it's time we take a sober look," said Sen. Joseph Biden, a Delaware Democrat and chairman of the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee. "My question really is ... not whether the surge has tactically worked or not. Has the purpose of the surge been accomplished?"My question exactly. In March, civilian deaths in Iraq rose 31 percent up from February with a total of 923 Iraqi civilians killed. Of course, that will mean little to most people here, as innocent Iraqis caught in the crossfire between our troops and insurgents doesn't weigh as heavily on American consciences. So, when those who support the war claim that pulling out now will result in chaos, how exactly do they explain away nearly 1,000 dead bodies over the course of 31 days and tell me that it's a sign of stability in the region?Well, as long as the supporters of the war continue to repeat over and over again that the surge is working while the media and the public laps it up without thinking about it much like they did 5 years back with the WMDs, then this farce of a war will continue to be a waste of human

There’s no question articles are one of the quickest and easiest ways to get targeted traffic and quality incoming links (that boost your search rankings) to your site. Not to mention, they don’t cost a cent!
And unlike other free advertising methods that have faded away over time, articles continue to grow in power as time goes on.
After all, there’s always an increasing amount of website publishers who need quality content to share with their readers.
Of course, there’s a catch. Your articles have to be good quality, be for an in-demand topic, and you must submit them… Continue reading

NOTE: Early post this week as I'll be traveling for the next few days. Next post will be Monday, April 7th.The much hailed success of the “Surge” of American forces in Iraq, led by Gen. David Petraeus, is beginning to fall apart. It’s important to understand why it worked (temporarily), why it’s falling apart now, why this will be a gradual disintegration, and why this was inevitable all along. The surge provided impressive initial results. Why? While many cite the shiny new & improved counterinsurgency approach implemented by Gen. Petraeus, which did manage to seize upon a period where Shi’a groups were temporarily electing cease fire over insurrection for reasons discussed below, there is a potentially more significant trend behind the (until recently) reduction in

This morning's Wall Street Journal has a piece on the growth of EEOC pregnancy discrimination charges. According to the Journal:
Pregnancy-bias complaints recorded by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission surged 14% last year to 5,587, up 40% from a decade ago and the biggest annual increase in 13 years.... The groundswell reflects both changing demographics and a new activism among mothers. It also shows that even now, 30 years after passage of the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act, there is still confusion about what protections it provides. "I thought we were protected," said an advertising executive during a recent gathering of 100 working mothers. "Then I find out we can be fired while we're pregnant, employers can refuse to hire us -- what exactly are our rights?"

I guess things didn't work out so well in Basra after the British troops left in December. And we are only in March. US Wants Britain to Lead 'Surge' in Southern Iraq Middle East Online LONDON - The US plans to urge Britain to launch a "surge" in Basra to combat increasing insurgency in the southern Iraqi region, the Sunday Mirror newspaper reported. Britain, which has around 4,100 troops in Iraq, transferred control to Iraqi forces in December last year but it could now be asked to step up its role again amid top-level concern about the situation, the paper said. It quoted an unnamed senior US military source saying: "Three big militias are currently engaged in a particularly bloody battle in southern Iraq.

Mind the Gap: Home-Price Downside by WSJ - snip:The economic balance hangs in large part on how much further home prices will fall. A look at one important measure -- the relationship between home prices and household income -- suggests we might not even be halfway there... It is also possible that home prices will overshoot on the downside, just as they did on the upside. Goldman Sachs economists say prices could fall another 15%. Merrill Lynch economists say they could drop another 20% to 30%. Both banks have been more bearish than others on the economy -- and so far look correct to have been so pessimistic . Consumer spending is one potential casualty of falling home prices. When home values fall, households have less home equity to tap when they want to buy a new flat-screen television

As if in direct reaction to our earlier story about the grim state of the American economy, Wall Street responded today by posting its biggest gain in more than five years. The index jumped a whopping 416.66 points, its largest one-day jump since July 29, 2002, according to the New York Times' Michael M. Grynbaum. On Tuesday, the Fed announced it would offer up to $200 billion in ultra-safe Treasury securities to the nation’s banks, including several major brokerage firms, in exchange for a variety of collateral options — including the very mortgage-backed securities that have caused the recent financial crisis. That means banks will be able to unload some of those soured assets, potentially freeing up money to keep the nation’s economic bloodstream flowing. A year ago in Baghdad: Shiite militiamen and Sunni insurgents owned entire neighborhoods and key areas beyond. Iraq's government was adrift, and U.S. commanders weighed the real possibility of being trapped in a full-scale civil war."The surge" was launched Feb. 14, 2007, with the 82nd Airborne as the vanguard of an American troop buildup that would climb to 30,000 extra U.S. soldiers.A year later Iraq looks very different. The "surge" in Baghdad and surrounding areas was seen as a last ditch effort to salvage the American mission in Iraq. The U.S. led forces have successfully tamped down violence, and the Pentagon has forged critical pacts with Sunni fighters against al-Qaida in Iraq. After a sharp initial spike in military and civilian casualties, the numbers make a strong case that the su

This is just hysterical. Harry Reid said emphatically a few months ago the following:
"I believe myself that the secretary of state, secretary of defense and — you have to make your own decisions as to what the president knows — that this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq," Mr. Reid said.
Now he has changed his tune:

Gen. David Petraeus's surge has been so successful in reducing violence that some officials at the Pentagon and the State Department, not to mention in the Democratic Congress are wondering whether Petraeus can accelerate his timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops. Petraeus summarized the good news about security in an interview Tuesday in his office in the Republican Palace. He described the remarkable improvements since the U.S. troop surge reached full strength over the summer. Behind him was a chart outlining his "anaconda strategy" against al-Qaeda. Like the giant snake, Petraeus said, the American military is destroying its prey by "squeezing, squeezing, squeezing." The U.S. commander said the level of violence in Iraq is down about 60 percent from summer's peak in every major category overall attacks, U.S. casualties and Iraqi civilian casualties. In Anbar province, once the epicenter of the insurgency, the number of attacks has fallen from 1,350 in October 2006 to fewer tha
Bad year on Wall Street? Not for bonuses! This might have been one of Wall Street's most dismal years in a decade, but that hasn't stopped bonus checks from rising an average of 14 percent.Four of the biggest U.S. investment banks — Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and Bear Stearns Cos. — will pay out about $49.6 billion in compensation this year. Of that, bonuses are traditionally estimated to represent 60 percent, or almost $30 billion. But that might not sit well with investors who held on to investment bank stocks this year — and watched them plunge by up to 45 percent. Investment houses have been slammed by the credit crisis, and top executives this past week said they've yet to see a bottom.Further, some of those executives have even agreed to forgo their bonuses this year to reflect the poor performance. Morgan Stanley CEO John Mack and Bear Stearns CEO Jimmy Cayne won't be collecting their payouts.Mack received no cash bonus a year

Well, hopefully its not just a fad, but I have noticed a significant traffic increase over the last week… which I would like to think is in direct relation to the fact that I have been posting regularly. The good thing is that with the new project I have a good excuse. Tonight I’ll be headed to Buffalo Wild Wings for some trivia and wings, should see some updates on Tucson Complete about that location the following day. My goal for the site has been to personally grow it by 3-5 pages a day. Glenn, over at Roi Rat Journal, has had a sudden incline in postings as well and has been contributing to helping the site grow drastically. Thus far it has been doing a bit better than my expectations in traffic. It has averaged over 20 visitors per day so far. However, Glenn and I are till the only ones contributing content… which is OK, but the day that someone else decides to pick up and add to the page I will ecstatic!!! Still marching towards that goal of 1,000 pages an
Bill Clinton not surprised by Huckabee's surgeExcerpt:""If you just listen to him, even though we disagree on a lot of the issues, he gives a good speech, tells a good joke and has a good sense of humor," Clinton said. "That takes you a long way in a place like Iowa. It's sort of ready-made for him. It's the perfect place for him, so I'm not at all surprised he's doing well.""http://www.arkansasnews.com/archive/2007/12/15/News/344583.html
The office rents in Dubai, and Doha are likely to go up by 20% next year, as the demand surpasses supply, and due to the expansion of international business in the Gulf region, revealed the property services company, CB Richard Ellis.
"The top-quality offices in Dubai, cost as much as Dh.500 per square foot, and this in-turn could increase prices to Dh.600 per square feet next year, which would
URL: www.SEOElite.com - Official SEO Elite .com Site Spark An Electrifying Surge In Your Cashflow!Your website or product's profitability and success is directly dependent on how much traffic, targeted traffic, you get. If you don't get any (or few) visitors then it's practically impossible to grow your business and see a profit. But get 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000 (or more) visitors a day, week or month and you'll begin to see a "snowballing" effect that'll let you generate cashflow and begin to build the structure for the life you've always wanted. Unfortunately, generating traffic is probably one of the BIGGEST frustrations most internet marketers have… it's sort of like a dog trying to chase his own tail, you go round and round and round but eventually end up in the same place you began, loopy from the dizzying whirl! Few of the methods being thrown about online work, others are a complete waste of time and money. But it doesn't have to be difficult, frustrating or confusing -
The counterinsurgency campaign led by Gen. David Petraeus is the correct approach in Iraq. It is showing promise of success and, if continued, will provide the Iraqi government the opportunities it desperately needs to stabilize its country.
“It’s time to discuss the way forward rather than prosecute the past. Congress must do the same, for our [...]
