Obama appeared here in Detroit tonight. No, I did not go. I did watch it on the Internet. It was the same ol’ stump speech, with all it’s idealism and lofty promises, with zero substance as to how he plans to do all these things, he says he will do. Which comes of no surprise to me at all, we are talking about Democrats here. One thing to realize, Hitler made promises too. In other news,
~Snooper~Well? It looks like the emotional gravy train is running out of steam. There are delegates of the DNC now officially supporting McCain and one avid activist has followed suit. While there may be some residual bitterness after Hillary Clinton's presidential bid defeat, her most loyal supporters are now shifting gears, warning Clinton's strong base of women supporters against swinging toward presumptive Republican Sen. John McCain. "Senator McCain is out of touch with the lives these women are leading." He's out of touch with everyone else, too, unless you are a lobbyist
Yesterday, from Think Progress:
Recently, Sen. John McCain has been reaching out to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s (D-NY) supporters by lavishing praise on Clinton. But a “news article” posted on McCain’s website may undermine those efforts. The “article,” which is actually a reader’s comment made at Andrew Sullivan’s Daily Dish, refers to Clinton as “the B*tch":

It's honestly hard to tell what's most awesome about this photo of Republican Tony Zirkle, running for the Republican nomination in Indiana's 2nd District: the inbred-looking skinhead kid just to Zirkle's right or the "Happy Birthday" sign in front of the table. Let's go with the sign, since it was to celebrate the birthday of Adolf Hitler.Even more awesomer? Zirkle's explanation. He was the

Whoever wrote the banner raised an interesting point. With more than 174,000 football-loving Portuguese immigrants living in Switzerland, any match in this region is tantamount to a home game for Luiz Felipe Scolari's swashbuckling side. If they continue to get behind their team as they did against Turkey, their route to the final will be made an awful lot easier. "It's just like being back home,"

Hillary is supposed to endorse Obama at the National Building Museum in DC–actually, she was supposed to do this 45 minutes ago and is just getting started now. As soon as she starts, I'll summarize what she says on

Good afternoon! The expert on this sort of thing is Robert Ferlingere. He has published 4 editions of his tome A Discography of Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll Vocal Groups: 1945-1965. The last edition was published in 2002 and was hardbound in two huge volumes. In the past five years there have been tons of additions and corrections made to Ferlingere's database and he does desire to publish a 5th edition which includes these. Terror suspects held at one of Britain's most secure jails are secretly accessing the internet to contact their supporters. The discovery raises fears that some of the UK's most dangerous terrorists could be plotting new attacks from inside prison. The serious security breach was revealed last week after The Mail on Sunday was alerted to messages on a "private" website linked to militant Islamic movement Al-Muhajiroun. The threatening emails were apparently sent from inside Belmarsh high-security prison in South-East London. It is thought inmates are sending the illicit messages using smuggled mobile phones, many of which now allow access to the internet. The internet messages are linked to Mizanur Rahman, a 25-year-old website designer jailed last year for inciting murder after calling for

Well I guess the short answer to this is "maybe". Heck, I might even go so far as to say that the short answer is "yes". More importantly, I can actually say this without believing that it is some earth shattering revelation.
Here is the reality folks. People cross over. Even in 2004, when we had an obvious animosity between parties, 11% of all self-proclaimed Democrats voted for Bush. It is almost certain that the less polarizing John McCain will earn more crossover Democrats and possibly by a large margin.
Consider for a second that in the average of the current Democratic popular polling, Hillary gets about 47% of the Democratic respondants. So if 28% of those 47% cross over, you are looking at only about 13%. With only 3% of the Obama supporters crossing over, you would be looki

The Huffington Post has ten questions Democrats need to ask themselves before voting for Hillary.1. When did Sen. Clinton cross the Commander-in-Chief threshold?2. Was it before or after October 11, 2002 when she flunked the biggest foreign policy test of her career and voted to authorize the war in Iraq?3. How can a candidate claim to be ready on Day One when on Day 646 of her senate career she voted for a war without reading the 90-page National Intelligence Estimate that so convinced senate colleague Bob Graham the war was a mistake?4. There have been many stories in the media regarding the behavior of Paul supporters in the blogosphere. There have also been stories regarding Paul supporters hassling other candidates. Dave Nalle, a libertarian who supports political action in the Republican Party, warns that the behavior of Ron Paul’s supporters at Republican gatherings is also counterproductive:
In party politics it doesn’t matter how right you are, it only matters how many people are convinced that you have a winning strategy. Paul’s supporters don’t understand this or don’t want to understand it. They’re thinking in terms of running an outsider, grassroots campaign. But Paul deliberately didn’t run as an independent. He showed the good sense to run as a Republican, knowing all of the advantages of access and opportunity he would have in the primaries and the base of support he’d be able to count on in the general election if he won the nomination.

Today I got news that the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra is being surrounded by supporters of the government, they are trying to surround it and block anyone from going in or out. The government has sent 400 police and government supporters like the "ponchos rojos" have stated they are going to surround the city until it accepts the new constitution the government has just issued.Unfortunately the new constitution was approved only by the government, in protected sites where nobody from the opposition could say anything against it, so there is an opposition to it being the oficial new constitution for the country. This weekend it seems that there will be violence in Santa Cruz, government forces will enforce the new vision of Bolivia on the people of Santa Cruz, and as these latter have publically stated, they will fight back. Sad but true, where Bolivia is heading to.

At the beginning of the week I had a post on how coverage of the behavior of Paul’s supporters was increasing, quoting from an article from Congressional Quarterly. The Wall Street Journal is reporting on this problem today:
Some blogs have booted Paul supporters for leaving incendiary comments. They have also been frozen out of Internet surveys and accused of electronic ballot stuffing; Dr. Paul rarely loses online straw polls even though he barely registers in national telephone polls. His supporters argue that they win online polls because there are more Paul supporters and they’re better organized.
Many of Dr. Paul’s supporters say they’re simply fighting a media and political establishment that won’t give him a fair shake. The big Nov. 5 “moneybomb” fund raiser was timed to coincide with Guy Fawkes Day and inspired by the 1980s comic-book series “V for Vendetta,” in which a vigilante in a Guy Fawkes mask wages war against a to
Which group is preferable, the bulk of the Republicans or those who support Ron Paul? A month ago the choice seemed obvious. Even though I disagreed with Paul’s social conservatism, Paul did seem far preferable with regards to his position on Iraq and civil liberties. Unfortunately the Ron Paul movement increasingly seems to be one of fringe groups such as white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and conspiracy theorists who have little understanding of libertarian philosophy or economic beliefs. As a result it now appears that conservatives have a better understanding of economics than many Paul supporters, at least with regards to the consequences of earmarks.
In the recent past I’ve had disagreements with Paul supporters who defended Paul’s support for earmarks to benefit his Congressional district. Many of his supporters argued that the earmarks did not contribute to increasing government spending as the funds were already appropriated. Conservative blogger Ed Morrissey pr
Last Thursday I presented a somewhat tongue in cheek report on a bipartisan effort to go to war to rid the blogosphere of the problem of the Ron Paul supporters. While the war effort was intended to be humorous, the disdain for many of the Paul supporters among both conservative and liberal bloggers is quite real and the Paul supports are receiving an increasing amount of negative coverage of their actions.
Conservatives have the most problem since Paul is running as a Republican and his supporters have more reason at present to attack other Republicans than Democrats. Shortly after my post on the topic, conservative columnist Mona Charen posted a Memo to Ron Paul Supporters. Charen made the following complaints, with further elaboration in her column: Paul is inconsistent, historically challenged, unserious, and too cozy with kooks and conspiracy theorists. While the bulk of the post is centered around criticism of Paul, it is clear that she is influence by the annoyances of his follo
A Lazio fan was shot dead by a policeman when rumbling Lazio and Juventus fans fatefully crossed paths while traveling to their respective away games last weekend, and this ban is just one of the measures imposed by the FIGC as a response to the uproar.Though it is not yet confirmed whether the season will restart on the weekend of November 24, fans of 15 teams will surely have to settle to watch the next away match of their team from the television.

Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was placed under house arrest today, and police rounded up 5,000 of her supporters who were planning to hold a protest rally. Bhutto, the former prime minister of Pakistan who just returned to the country from nearly a decade in exile, called for the rally to protest President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's declaration of emergency rule. "The government has been paralyzed," Bhutto shouted to supporters across a barbed-wire barricade erected by police, The Associated Press reported. A Pakistani government spokesman announced later today that Bhutto would be released from house arrest by Saturday, the AP reported. That announcement came just as President Bush called for Bhutto and her supporters to be freed and again for the end of emergency rule. It is "crucial for Pakistan's future that moderate political forces work together to bring Pakistan back on the path to democracy," the White House said in a statement. Later after she was unable to leave
