Delving into its historical and Scriptural origins, Witherington argues that the Lord's Supper is a sacramental celebration of the community of God, designed to incorporate people of varying backgrounds. Excavating the diverse ways in which Scripture and early Christian tradition speak about the Lord's Supper, Witherington advocates that the meal is primarily about who the people of God are and how they should thus live together.

Fishermen are always looking for a tasty catch - but it is the fish that have a natural advantage when it comes to spotting dinner, according to new research from The University of Manchester. In a paper published this month in the Biophysical Journal, Dr Nicholas Roberts reports how individual light sensitive cells within the retina of goldfish are able to detect polarised light. It's believed this type of polarisation vision improves visual contrast and can help an animal catch its prey more easily.Researchers say this latest research is important because it is the first direct experimental evidence of a polarisation detection mechanism in any normal vertebrate eye.Dr Roberts says: "Vision is the primary sense of many animals and the way they see their world is of fundamental imp

The sun was shining, the sky was clear and blue, except there were no birds were chirping (they must have migrated to warmer lands), and there are no leaves left on trees. Regardless of the reasons for painting it, The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci was a common theme among Renaissance painters. Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting was originally painted starting in 1495 and was completed in 1498. The painting was commissioned by Duke Ludovico Sforza and his wife Beatrice d’Este to be painted as a mural in Milan. The painting itself is a recreation of The Last Supper as described in the Gospel of [...]

Last Saturday, I was “tricked” to go down to MediaCorp earlier. CC called me at around 11am and told me to be there by 12pm. In order not to waste time, I even chased after the bus for nearly a stop. It was pretty disappointing for most of the actors and actresses were old people and Fiona Xie was not involved in the scenes; I teased my friends that I would help them to look at her since they could not get to see her, even though I was interested nor idol-crazy. Annie Leibovitz meets Heat in this award-winning photographer’s stunning celebration of world-famous chefs and their final meals. Chefs have been playing the “My Last Supper” game among themselves for decades, if not centuries, but it had always been kept within the profession until now. Melanie Dunea came up with the ingenious idea to ask fifty of the world’s famous chefs to let her in on this insider’s game and tell her what their final meals would be. My Last Supper showcases their fascinating answers alongside stunning Vanity Fair–style portraits. Their responses are surprising, refreshing, and as distinct from each other as the chefs themselves. The portraits—gorgeous, intimate, and playful—are informed by their answers and reveal the passions and personalities of the most respected names in the business. Lastly, one recipe from each landmark meal is included in the back of the book. With My Last Supper, Dunea found a way into the typically harried, hidden minds
The New Da Vinci Code. Hidden musical code that is.
Leonardo painting has coded ’soundtrack’
By ARIEL DAVID, Associated Press Writer
Yahoo News
ROME - It’s a new Da Vinci code, but this time it could be for real. An Italian musician and computer technician claims to have uncovered musical notes encoded in Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Last Supper,” raising the possibility that the Renaissance genius might have left behind a somber composition to accompany the scene depicted in the 15th-century wall painting.
“It sounds like a requiem,” Giovanni Maria Pala said. “It’s like a soundtrack that emphasizes the passion of Jesus.”
Painted from 1494 to 1498 in Milan’s Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the “Last Supper” vividly depicts a key moment in the Gospel narrative: Jesus’ last meal with the 12 Apostles before his arrest and crucifixion, and the shock of Christ’s followers as they learn that one of
My wife is deathly — I mean deathly — afraid of flying. So afraid that a 50 minute flight to L.A. sends her into a panic. Thus, I will probably never get to Milan to see “The Last Supper” in real-life at the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. If you [...]

I woke up to see the clock, expecting it would be 3pm like usual. To my surprise, it was around 6pm already.I went back to the computer right away to see disappointment that there was problem with the FTP file transfer which I left it to work before I went off.I was busy with the beach volleyball website (http://beachvolleyball.sg), trying to integrate the forum with the gallery properly. I went through the help forum to seek for the solution and finally there was progress but I had to wait for the FTP transfer for further action.Suddenly, I realised there was volleyball game and luckily it was at 8pm instead of 7pm. My lunch was on the table and luckily it was still edible.I could feel my head spinning at the start of the game. It was pretty crowded and we had to form three teams, which was good since everyone had a chance to be left out of the court, unlike sometimes that only a few of us had to be sacrificed. We had rare guest like Meishan and I supposed it was the first time I chat

It was our anniversary, but Bill and I didn’t see each other until 7:45 p.m. at Open House in Mrs. L’s Advanced Math class. At that point I had already met with both third-grade teachers and Bill had gone to Social Studies, English and Science, so we were worn out after a day of work and school. Our kisses were weary, though heartfelt.
Bill and I are hoping to go out of town this weekend for a little celebration, if the kids don’t prevent our getaway. Drew got stung by the World’s Most Venomous Yellowjacket while he and Porter were playing in the fort they made out of tree limbs. At first it didn’t look like much and we applied ice and Benadyl, but this morning his entire foot was swollen something wicked.
It isn’t streaky, though, so I’m assuming that this is not an injury that will put our vacation in danger, like stitches and lice have in the past.
Speaking of Wicked, I was astounded to discover that someone has created a dance-mix
I would have expected something like this when The DaVinci code was at peak popularity, but conspiracy theorists are out there all of the time.
So a conspiracy theorist with PhotoShop comes up with this.
If you superimpose a mirrored image of The Last Supper over itself and reduce the opacity of the top layer, a woman holding a child can be seen. But wait, there’s more! A goblet appears in front of Jesus and two guys on the far right of the painting become knights.
That DaVinci sure was a clever cat.
Here is the woman. Can’t you see her? Is it an example of DaVinci’s genius or is this just another thing that can be seen due to the power of suggestion? You be the judge.

The United Nations Security Council issued today a “strong” condemnation of the terrorist attacks that killed six UN peacekeepers from Spain in southern Lebanon. I am curious if the United Nation’s next step is to sentence the terrorists to timeout? Maybe they will send a “surge” of peacekeeper reinforcements armed with really expensive clipboards? Jimmy Carter can offer to build the terrorists a nice home if they cooperate. In all seriousness, however, the United Nations has become an abject embarrassment. While the UN’s purpose may be laudable, in practice the UN cannot solve any world conflicts without direct American involvement. For example, about a decade ago, genocide took place in Europe and in Rwanda. Yet, the United Nations sought diplomacy. As expected, it was not until brute force was used that the genocide stopped. Presently, 200,000 people have been brutally murdered in Sudan; Iran threatens to wipe Israel off the Map; and Women are brutalized thr

[Saturday, 24 March, 2007]At the very first minute of the day, I was preparing to go downstairs to meet Kachua for supper. He had just ended his work by then. He treated me to my roti prata and teh tarrik and we had quite a long chat over there. I knew well my plan to sleep early would certainly fail again. Before we left, I helped my brother to buy magi goreng, which cost $3.50, which was more expensive than mee goreng.I continued my morning with chatting with Mike while I carried on with my usual routine. My ten-buck-per-day project was going smooth. This day, I sought for more ways to expand it and Mike helped me with some advice. We also discussed about his soon-to-come company. I wasted a lot of time trying to set forwarding of emails using my domain name. I slept during daylight again.During the afternoon after I waked up, life was back to editing of websites. There was no volleyball at Clementi ITE on this day due to a seminar taking place inside the hall. I could have organised
Phew, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? It’s the end of the quarter here, and I’ve been holding extra office hours and grading piles of linear algebra exams. But, last you heard from me, I was wining and dining my way around DC, courtesy of my mom and her fabulous taste in restaurants. After Palena and Komi, we visited Obelisk, and then two local Woodley Park eateries: the Afghan Grill and Lebanese Taverna.
While Obelisk was good, it paled in comparison to Komi the night before. The style is similar to Komi, though it’s Italian inspired rather than Greek. The appetizers were again the highlight, with the best of those being a gorgeously oozy burrata swimming in a puddle of the most wonderful olive oil. The Afghan Grill was, as usual, outstanding, and a certain bewitching baklava eaten there has been following me around for nearly two weeks, begging me to attempt to recreate it (see below). The mezze meal we ate at Lebanese Taverna was also delicious, though no
