Game review: Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy is the absolute shit. A masterclass in platforming. A long love letter to all Super Mario fans across the globe. So much is right about this game it's unreal. Nintendo approached this game as though Super Mario Sunshine didn't exist. It's almost difficult to imagine that the same team that brought us that water spraying, holiday themed bullshit actually managed to deliver a game that is out of this world...literally, with all puns intended. Many cite Super Mario 64 as the best 3D platformer ever. Whilst I wasn't a huge fan of the game (I found it quite boring to be honest), there's no denying that it had a major impact on 3D platformers and that every game that came after had tried to mimic it and just plain rip it off in some cases. With this in mind and given Super shitty sunshine's lukewarm response, it would've been easy for Nintendo to have just pretty much re-created the essence of what made Super Mario 64 a success: make it look better, tweak

Check out this fan made boxart for Super Mario Galaxy. I think it looks hot. It's a great image. The only criticism, is that there is too much going on with it. I think that highlighting Mario, having the game title stand out more and the orange planet below being blue would've made it look less busy. Busy boxarts aren't always the best. But I think as a promotional image and a piece of artwork it rocks and it's still a great looking box art. It draws you in alot more than the official one because you've some of the whacky characters you encounter in the game and it convey's how off the wall and crazy the game is. Super Mario Galaxy really is a trippy and crazy game.Me likey!

      Super Mario Galaxy
Without trying to sound too much like a Nintendo fanboy I have to say I've been having a blast playing Super Mario Galaxy on Wii. It's lots of fun and is getting rave reviews from everyone on the planet. Now, the game is awesome, but I would love to see what the reviews would have been like if Mario was retextured as Manny the Carpenter and was released by THQ as Super Manny's Adventures.Would the reviewers mark it down for having text only on the screen and no VO? Would they pick on the bizarre storyline that mixes witches and UFOs and mushrooms into one big mix? Would it get 98% or higher?I guess we'll never know. But I suspect smaller devs would never be given the same sort of breaks in these areas that Nintendo gets. What do you think?www.passfieldgames.com

Super Mario Galaxy is astounding - 5 stars from this reviewer
I have been trying to decide what games to purchase this month and thanks to a fantastic mate I managed to get myself a NTSC copy of Super Mario Galaxy this weekend. I played it for a good 7 hours today and it is beautiful beyond description. This is one of those occasions when the "a picture is worth a thousand words" saying does not even do the game justice. The music alone is sufficient to move hardened criminals to tears; combine that with fluid gameplay, beautifully rendered worlds and imaginative art and you are going to need CPR.The most astounding aspect for me is the sheer innovation at every turn. Nothing is repeated and you are constantly in awe at how this game makes 3D worlds a pleasure to play in. There is nothing jarring, annoying or even mildly irritating for me to have a go at. Watch for the review later this week and do yourself a favour and order it now. A must own title for any Wii owner! It was a bumper weekend for me with Zack & Wiki and Battalion Wars 2 arrivi

      First impressions: Super Mario Galaxy
Last night I sat down and with Super Mario Galaxy and gave it a bit of a play through and have also been playing it today. My initial impressions? Super Mario Galaxy is a much better game than Super Mario 64. Hands down. There, I said it. Even at this early stage I can say that much. If feels alot more fresh, alot more fun and lively than Super Mario 64 did. Super Mario Galaxy is just such a charming game and everything feels like it's part of this living, breathing world. The way the enemies bound around. The way the collosal bosses move in a way that makes them seem agitated at the mere sight of Mario. The way the Lumar's float around and squeal and the Toad's that are littered through out the galaxy, giving the feeling that Mario isn't alone and that he wasn't the only one shot in outer space and that he is part of a bigger picture. Everything in each galaxy comes together to make the entire game world feel alive and inhabited. This game is instantly accessible. From the second

      Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy My kids can’t get enough of this game this week. It’s the coolest offering so far on the Wii. Become Mario as he traverses a galaxy of gravities, traveling in and out of gravitational fields by blasting from planet to planet. Players experience dizzying perspective shifts as they run upside down through wild alien worlds that need to be seen to be believed. Controlling Mario is as simple as can be with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Players move Mario with the Control Stick and shake the Wii Remote to perform a spin move or cue stars that launch him to and from planetary objects. Players can even point at bits of stardust to collect them or latch onto stars to blaze a magnetic trail through the heavens. Don’t want to head into space alone? With a second Wii Remote, another player can play alongside by pointing at and collecting bits of stardust, then launching them at enemies. The second player can

Official UK Super Mario galaxy launch
So another year, another launch. Despite me claiming that I would never attend another launch gig again, I went and attended another one. It felt like déjà vu. The freezing cold, the same walk along Regent street and then along Oxford street. As before I was walking along looking for a huge gathering of people. Something which is hard to do on Oxford street as there is always a sea of people everywhere. I got to the store and was in complete shock. The queue was HUGE. I honestly didn't think there'd be so many people. Mario has alot more pulling power than I realized. It was completely insane. The overwhelming sense of déjà vu came over me again when I found myself recognizing people from the Wii launch and also wondering if I should've bothered at all. There isn't a great deal to do at launch gigs but wait around. Super Mario Galaxy Review By Ben Silverman
You have to feel sorry for Princess Peach. Not because she keeps getting kidnapped, but because her boyfriend is a workaholic. When he isn't playing soccer, baseball or golf, Mario is busy throwing parties, racing karts or impersonating a doctor. Apparently, spending "quality time" with your significant other isn't a big priority in the Mushroom Kingdom. WATCH SUPER MARIO GALAXY VIDEOSBut when push comes to shove, Mario knows on which side his bread his buttered. Eschewing those darn mini-games (yay!) in favor of good old-fashioned platforming, the mustachioed mascot returns to his roots in Super Mario Galaxy, squashing Goombas, hurling turtle shells and battling gravity itself in an ingenious, intergalactic quest to once again save his lady love from the clutches of arch-nemesis Bowser. And it's his best effort in a decade. It's also his biggest. Super Mario Galaxy emulates the core gameplay system of the venerable Super Mario 64 by requiring Mario to collect up to 120 power stars

Crappy 'Super Mario Galaxy' US TV spot
Not long after I rant on about the lack of Super Mario Galaxy promotion and whack TV adverts, Nintendo release this. Not feeling it. Nintendo need to create adverts that capture the esscence of the game. This advert doesn't convey how amazing this game is - nowhere near as much as the Japanese TV spots did. By constantly showing people playing the game and not even having the audio play from the game itself creates this sense of detachment. You're not connecting with the game and we aren't even shown enough of it to be wowed by it in anyway. Nintendo did the exact same thing with their Metroid Prime 3: Corruption TV spot. The whole 'Wii would like to play' TV spots would make good adverts if they were aired consistently over a period of time and showed people playing a wide range of games - as this would be good promotion for the system itself. But they don't work when promoting one game. Especially not ones like Metroid and Mario.Bottom line? The ad sucks. As good as we all know S

One death, a string of vandalized cars and a copy of Super Mario Galaxy
A girl at work today told me how it was in her local paper that a guy got killed on the motorway. She then went on to tell me how her car had gotten broken into a couple of days ago and that guy responsible was the one who got killed! It turns out that this one guy was part of a little group of arseholes who attempted to break into near enough every car on this girls' road. I said to her "He got killed? Oh well". I know it may seem pretty wrong to be so nonchalant about the guy dying, but look at it this way: If he was at home being a good little boy and he wasn't out on the streets being a crook - he wouldn't have gotten chased by the police and then gotten killed on the motorway. His death was a result of a chain reaction of events that he started. HE got himself killed. I really have little sympathy for him. I know there's a mother and a father out there who are grieving over their sons death. Losing a child is not something a parent ever wants to go through. But he broke the la

The sounds of Super Mario Galaxy
Nintendo put out a video a couple of weeks ago of an orchestra performing a piece of music from Super Mario Galaxy and it sounds incredible. It gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. It's f**king magical. It sounds way too grand to be the music for a stage. The song climaxes and ends big like it should be playing when the end credits roll. When Hikaru Utada and I get married, she's walking down the aisle to this shit. Koji Kondo and the Japan philiharmonic orchestra will be flown in to play this live at our wedding. I can't believe how nonchalant Kondo, Miyamoto and the Nintendo crew were as the orchestra played. If I was there and had heard one of my compositions come to life like that, I'd be snappin' fingers and throwing elbows all over the place. I wish I had even an ounce of the talent it takes to compose and arrange a piece like that. I really am in complete awe. This marks the first time a Mario adventure will feature fully orchestrated pieces. A total of 28 pieces of

The Japanese girls in the new Wii experience video are a bit of alright, but one of them can't play the game for shit. She stands on the spot as a giant boulder rolls into Mario's head and as soon as the girl turns into Bee Mario, she flies straight into the water. The dude is just as bad. He has no clue what he's doing and the girl who's watching him play is telling him what to do and how to do it the whole entire time. You'd think the kid would be better, but no. Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario galaxy - new abilities pr0n
Between Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy videos releasing left, right and centre, I'm in Nintendo heaven at the thought of owning these games. I actually forgot that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption gets its European release in 2 weeks! Yesterday I posted some Smash bros. pr0n, now it's time for the Mario galaxy pr0n. Check out these new videos of Mario getting his platform action on with the aid of a Star, an ice flower, a Stingray, a balancing ball, a bubble and an oversized flower. Only in Mario game folks...only in a Mario game...These new power ups crap all over those shitty hats from Super Mario 64. Metal cap, winged cap, invisible cap my arse. It's all about the Bee, the Phantom, the Star and the ice flower. The fire flower will also make a return, along with some wierd slinky power up which has Mario wrapped in coils. It'll probably allow him to spring and jump to higher areas, but that's me going out on a complete whim. Videos of Mario lobbing firballs and workin

Super Mario Galaxy: 700K retailer pre-orders in Japan to date
Reports are circulating that upcoming Wii title Super Mario Galaxy has 700 000 retailer pre-orders in Japan so far. Retail pre-orders are usually a good indication of the how the game will fair in its first week of sales so it looks like Mario is destined for great things once again, especially if you add customer pre-orders to the mix.Meanwhile over the pond it is being reported that pre-orders received by online retailer GameStop have reached 400 000 in North America. I can't wait to see what happens once the advertising starts.

The prologue of Super Mario galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy has nothing else to prove to me. I know this game is going to rock my gaming world and satisfy my gaming needs. But Nintendo aren't quite done showing us gamers why we need to just give them our money come November. They've released a video of the prologue to the game, where we get a first look at Peach doing what she does best (getting kidnapped) and Bowser and Kamek getting up to no good as usual. It's amazingly epic for Super Mario game and it shits all over the...(Peach sends Mario a letter which reads...)"Come to my house. I've made you a cake."(Mario goes to Peach's house just to hear Bowser's voice echo from out of nowhere)Bowser: I've kidnapped the bitch. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa!Toad: Get stars to save the princess. There's a painting in a room just there. Jump yo' fat ass through it to get a star....intro that was in Super Mario 64.Now THIS is what I'm talking about. Did you see those graphics? That shit wasn't FMV. REAL TIME BITCH! That was running

Super Mario Galaxy Japanese web site updated (videos!)
To be honest, the best advice I can offer is: don't watch these videos. Just buy the game, you won't be sorry. Really, there is no way on earth that you could possibly not enjoy playing this game, so why kill the surprise with videos that show you why your heart will be leaping with delight - why not just revel in the magic Nintendo have created once the game is finally released?Oh well, if you don't believe (and I know thousands wouldn't), check out the Japanese Super Mario Galaxy site. The videos all show how the Wii remote is used to perform the different moves in the game. If you're Japanese challenged like me, some pointers to navigate around might help. In fact, I'll just link to the video pages here...On each page, click on the blue button below the still image to watch the video.RunningJumpingMore Jumping (including wall jumping)SpinningCollecting star piecesAwesome other stuff - don't do it!Using star rings - you really don't want to!Star travellingA Mario suit - I'm

      Super Mario Galaxy
GameplayNow, isn't Mario too familiar in this game console? Here's another Mario game for everybody that is to be released this November 2007. Super Mario Galaxy is an adventure game that is one extraordinary Mario game for Wii. As for the title, most of the game is set out there in outer space along with a different chain of miniature planetoids and other matters can only be seen on space. Mario is capable of jumping or launching from planet to planet in order to gather items and defeat some nasty enemies. Gravity plays a significant role in the game, as each planet has a gravitational force that repels Mario from drifting into space, which allows the player to walk evenly around a complexly rounded surface. The changing of degrees of gravity also have an effect on Mario's ability to jump, and is used to pull Mario towards certain planetoids while in the middle of the air. Like any other 3D Mario games, the main objective here is to collect Stars, which are awarded by completing ta

      “Super Mario Galaxy” Box Art
There isn’t a video game released which is more timeless then the Super Marios series, just think of the replayability factor alone. I could go back and re-play any of them at anytime, which I have in fact been doing as of late. Nintendo definitely didn’t fail when it came to the Italian superpowered plumber. I haven’t covered the upcoming Galaxy much due to the shotty footage only, but since the cover has been released I might as well show you what we get to look forward to in the next gen Mario game.

Impressive:

      Super Mario Galaxy: E3 Trailer
Nintendo Wii Fanboy had these details to share Super Mario Galaxy: The game is incredibly charming and creative, and filled with life that make it a clear killer app for the console. Firstly, the game looks absolutely stunning. Not only does it run in 480p and in widescreen, the game features some beautiful colors, fantastic texture work, and some stellar special effects. The Mario character model is easily the best we’ve seen in any Nintendo game so far: it’s not hard to think that the in-game cut-scenes are pre-rendered at times. Galaxy, at the very least, shows that the Wii is a capable piece of hardware, so long as developers take time and care with it. and they also mentioned this about multiplayer mode: We also got to try the “multiplayer” mode, in which the second controller can act as another pointer to help Mario: it can stun enemies, and Mario as well. A player that refuses to play well with others will want to point at Mario, stopping him in his track
