Super Mario Galaxy is the absolute shit. A masterclass in platforming. A long love letter to all Super Mario fans across the globe. So much is right about this game it's unreal. Nintendo approached this game as though Super Mario Sunshine didn't exist. Check out this fan made boxart for Super Mario Galaxy. I think it looks hot. It's a great image. The only criticism, is that there is too much going on with it. I think that highlighting Mario, having the game title stand out more and the orange planet below being blue would've made it look less busy. Busy boxarts aren't always the best. But I think as a promotional image and a piece of artwork it rocks and it's still a great looking box art. It draws you in alot more than the official one because you've some of the whacky characters you encounter in the game and it convey's how off the wall and crazy the game is. Without trying to sound too much like a Nintendo fanboy I have to say I've been having a blast playing Super Mario Galaxy on Wii. It's lots of fun and is getting rave reviews from everyone on the planet.Now, the game is awesome, but I would love to see what the reviews would have been like if Mario was retextured as Manny the Carpenter and was released by THQ as Super Manny's Adventures.Would the reviewers mark it down for having text only on the screen and no VO? I have been trying to decide what games to purchase this month and thanks to a fantastic mate I managed to get myself a NTSC copy of Super Mario Galaxy this weekend. I played it for a good 7 hours today and it is beautiful beyond description. This is one of those occasions when the "a picture is worth a thousand words" saying does not even do the game justice. The music alone is sufficient to move hardened criminals to tears; combine that with fluid gameplay, beautifully rendered worlds and imaginative art and you are going to need CPR.The most astounding aspect for me is the sheer innovation at every turn. Nothing is repeated and you are constantly in awe at how this game makes 3D worlds a pleasure to play in. There is nothing jarring, annoying or even mildly irritating for me to have a go at. Last night I sat down and with Super Mario Galaxy and gave it a bit of a play through and have also been playing it today. My initial impressions? Super Mario Galaxy is a much better game than Super Mario 64. Hands down. There, I said it. Even at this early stage I can say that much. If feels alot more fresh, alot more fun and lively than Super Mario 64 did. Super Mario Galaxy is just such a charming game and everything feels like it's part of this living, breathing world. The way the enemies bound around. The way the collosal bosses move in a way that makes them seem agitated at the mere sight of Mario. Become Mario as he traverses a galaxy of gravities, traveling in and out of gravitational fields by blasting from planet to planet. Players experience dizzying perspective shifts as they run upside down through wild alien worlds that need to be seen to be believed.
Controlling Mario is as simple as can be with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Players move Mario with the Control Stick and shake the Wii Remote to perform a spin move or cue stars that launch him to and from planetary objects. So another year, another launch. Despite me claiming that I would never attend another launch gig again, I went and attended another one. It felt like déjà vu. Not long after I rant on about the lack of Super Mario Galaxy promotion and whack TV adverts, Nintendo release this.Not feeling it. Nintendo need to create adverts that capture the esscence of the game. This advert doesn't convey how amazing this game is - nowhere near as much as the Japanese TV spots did. By constantly showing people playing the game and not even having the audio play from the game itself creates this sense of detachment. You're not connecting with the game and we aren't even shown enough of it to be wowed by it in anyway. Nintendo did the exact same thing with their Metroid Prime 3: Corruption TV spot.The whole 'Wii would like to play' TV spots would make good adverts if they were aired consistently over a period of time and showed people playing a wide range of games - as this would be good promotion for the system itself. A girl at work today told me how it was in her local paper that a guy got killed on the motorway. She then went on to tell me how her car had gotten broken into a couple of days ago and that guy responsible was the one who got killed! It turns out that this one guy was part of a little group of arseholes who attempted to break into near enough every car on this girls' road. I said to her "He got killed? Oh well". I know it may seem pretty wrong to be so nonchalant about the guy dying, but look at it this way: If he was at home being a good little boy and he wasn't out on the streets being a crook - he wouldn't have gotten chased by the police and then gotten killed on the motorway. His death was a result of a chain reaction of events that he started. HE got himself killed. I really have little sympathy for him. Nintendo put out a video a couple of weeks ago of an orchestra performing a piece of music from Super Mario Galaxy and it sounds incredible. It gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. It's f**king magical. It sounds way too grand to be the music for a stage. Reports are circulating that upcoming Wii title Super Mario Galaxy has 700 000 retailer pre-orders in Japan so far. Retail pre-orders are usually a good indication of the how the game will fair in its first week of sales so it looks like Mario is destined for great things once again, especially if you add customer pre-orders to the mix.Meanwhile over the pond it is being reported that pre-orders received by online retailer GameStop have reached 400 000 in North America. I can't wait to see what happens once the advertising starts.

Super Mario Galaxy is an adventure game that is one extraordinary Mario game for Wii. As for the title, most of the game is set out there in outer space along with a different chain of miniature planetoids and other matters can only be seen on space. Mario is capable of jumping or launching from planet to planet in order to gather items and defeat some nasty enemies. Gravity plays a significant role in the game, as each planet has a gravitational force that repels Mario from drifting into space, which allows the player to walk evenly around a complexly rounded surface. The changing of degrees of gravity also have an effect on Mario's ability to jump, and is used to pull Mario towards certain planetoids while in the middle of the air. There isn’t a video game released which is more timeless then the Super Marios series, just think of the replayability factor alone. I could go back and re-play any of them at anytime, which I have in fact been doing as of late. Nintendo definitely didn’t fail when it came to the Italian superpowered plumber. I haven’t covered the upcoming Galaxy much due to the shotty footage only, but since the cover has been released I might as well show you what we get to look forward to in the next gen Mario game. Aunque no haya sido anunciada de manera oficial por Nintendo, la edición inglesa de la Wikipedia ya muestra la que se supone que será la carátula de ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ en los Estados Unidos, donde recordemos que esperan recibirlo para el próximo 12 de Noviembre. Personalmente me gusta bastante, mucho más que la de su predecesor ‘Super Mario Sunshine’. Veremos ahora si la mantienen para el lanzamiento europeo, cuya fecha definitiva aún está por ser confirmada, y que sin duda será un día de visita obligada a nuestra tienda de videojuegos habitual para todos los que somos poseedores de una Wii. Me ha dado fuerte con el juego, pero a cada vídeo que veo, más me gusta, y más si enseñan cómo se jugará.
Me da a mi que la gran novedad en esta ocasión va a ser el papel que tomemos en la aventura. Si os fijáis, aparece un cursor en la pantalla que sirve para apuntar a los enemigos y dispararles fragmentos de materia estelar. De este modo, podemos ayudar a Mario a completar sus objetivos de la forma más activa que se ha visto nunca. Nos convertiríamos en algo así como la Navy del Ocarina of Time. Impressive:

Firstly, the game looks absolutely stunning. Not only does it run in 480p and in widescreen, the game features some beautiful colors, fantastic texture work, and some stellar special effects. Bueno, sobre gustos no hay nada escrito, y seguro que la Wiibáscula encantará a mucha gente. Pero a mí no. A mí me gustan los Mario, los Zelda y los videojuegos de toda la vida. Si Nintendo quiere ser grande, se podría pasar por su Consola Virtual y echar un vistazo a lo grande que era hace quince años.
Pero no todo está perdido. Ayer también hubo buenas noticias, y el post anterior sólo era una bronca al cúmulo de despropósitos en que convirtieron la conferencia del E3. La primera buena noticia es que Mario Galaxy está prácticamente acabado y que saldrá a la venta el segundo cuatrimestre de 2007.
Una de las novedades que hasta ahora se desconocían es la de la existencia de un modo cooperativo. Si no queremos adentrarnos solos en el espacio, basta con conseguir a un/a amigo/a y otro wiimote. El segundo jugador podrá ayudarnos recogiendo polvo estelar y lanzándoselo a nuestros enemigos, o a los proyectiles y trampas; ayudándonos mientras avanzamos en la aventura.

Cada vez que veo imágenes del próximo título del fontanero más famoso del mundo, Super Mario Galaxy me quedo sin palabras. ¿Cómo es posible que la Wii, una consola que según dicen las malas lenguas es una GameCube tuneada; sea capaz de crear esos gráficos? En serio, me quedo atónito con la magnitud de los escenarios, (sin nieblas ni cargas) y la suavidad con que se mueve todo. Una gozada. Permitidme que haga una reflexión sobre lo que puede suponer el regreso a escena del personaje más carismático de Nintendo.
El nuevo juego de Mario quizás sea lo que los fans de Nintendo estaban esperando desde que el mundo cayó de rodillas con Mario 64 en 1996. Super Mario Sunshine es un gran título, pero pocos lo consideran de los mejores de GameCube, algo que Mario siempre ha conseguido en cada generación con las videoconsolas de Ninty.
