New Kid on the (Sunscreen) Block
I love sunshine and i know most people do too. A sunny day at the beach is a perfect day. A sunny day outdoors, implies warm breeze, fun and frolicking under the hot warm sunshiny day. But although Mr. Sunshine appears to be friendly and happy and smiles at everyone, there is something sinister about Mr. Sunshine that we should not take for granted. A little sun is ok for the skin but too much of it can become a really big problem. So when you go out, be sure to put a cover on yourself, a hat or an umbrella or don't stay too long under the blazing hot sunshine. But if you don't like the inconvenience of bringing these things and you need to stay longer under the sun, then just put on sun screen. A good sunscreen like the one from Screen, Inc. is non-greasy, non-irritating, and dermatologi

      Sunscreen!
With all the outdoor agility we do we are always looking for ways to protect our skin. Mum uses cool coats on me to keep me cool, and keeps me out of the sun in our shade tent as much as possible. But she's out there walking courses, checking results, building courses in between our runs, so she gets exposed to the sun a lot more than I do.Sometimes putting sunscreen on your face can be pretty yucky and greasy. So getting one that stays on, but doesn't feel like grease paint is really important to Mum. And when she is out in the wind and the sun she has to protect her lips too. Screen, Inc. has products on the market that really fit the bill and are made just for the face and lips.Their products have been dermatologist-approved. Comment on Sunscreen Causes Aging Skin Problems by Kathleen
Hi, It's interesting isn't it that intuition usually does rule. I have felt the same way for years also. I use sunscreen sparingly, and it's true that Vitamn D is mandatory for good health. Also, I've been reading a lot about Acai berries. I think (and this is my intuition) that it's better for everyone to eat what is indiginous to their area. It makes sense to me somehow that consuming locally grown foods can provide nutrients and protection that may be specific to the local population - like consuming local bee honey to treat seasonal allergies. Do you know anything about broccoli lotion sunscreen? I read a study that said it can protect from sun damage also but don't know if it's availale, or still in the experimental phase. So, I shall eat tomatos on the beach, correct? (lol).

It quickly became popular as people circulated it via email and photocopies, an early example of viral marketing. Somehow the piece became falsely linked to Kurt Vonnegut and a commencement speech, but eventually the truth prevailed, thankfully. Mary Schmich released a book based on the essay and later a song and music video were produced (plus countless parodies, foreshading YouTube's bread and butter).I'd totally forgotten how wonderful and powerful this piece was until a friend of mine sent me the music video on my FaceBook wall. Coffee as sunscreen
A study done at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA, shows that caffeine in combination with exercise gives protection agains UVB. This is the radiation in sun light that can cause skin cancer. The Americans gave hairless mice (which are very sensitive to skin cancer) water with caffeine, or a wheel to run in or both or neither. All mice had UVB light shone on them from a lamp. The mice that had the water with caffeine and the wheel had the least incidents of skin cancer. Only caffeine or only exercise worked as well, but not as well as the two together. The scientists haven’t found an explanation for this yet. Also they emphasize that it still has to be researched if it works the same in humans.

Review: :L’oreal UV Perfect Fluid Protector sunscreen - anti-dullness
I’d reviewed the L’oreal UV Perfect Fluid Protector sunscreen before in a separate review. Anyone who knows me would know how paranoid I am about using sunscreen. Sunscreen truly is the best anti-aging cream out there simply because it blocks UV rays from damaging your skin thereby preventing aging at its root. All that aside though, I had been curious about the anti-dullness formula for a while and I also noticed that the L’oreal UV Perfect sunscreen had been repackaged. So, I was wondering if they had also reformulated it. So when my current tube was on its last legs, I took a gamble on this anti-dullness formula. It comes in the usual box and tube except there is  little purple square at the bottom with the words “anti-dullness”. The texture of the sunscreen is the same, creamy but there is a purplish tint to the cream. This purple tint, although looking impossibly ghastly, actually serves to counteract yellowness and dullness. The minute I apply it o

      Important Tip: Use Sunscreen!
As the picture shows, it is never too early to use suncreen on your face and body. Now, I’d be the first to admit that I’m not always as religious about using sunscreen on my arms and legs but for my face, its a top priority every single day. Its a fallacy that if you refrain from going out into the sun, you don’t need sunscreen. Or, that if you stay home with all the windows and doors closed, you don’t need sunscreen. Closing your windows and doors and staying indoors doesn’t prevent the UV rays from reaching you. So yes, maybe you won’t tan, but your skin isn’t protected from UV rays either. And for anyone who indulges in anti-aging creams and cures, its best you start now with sunscreen. That is the best anti-aging cure you can hope for because it is a fact that the sun’s rays and UV rays damage the skin and causes skin to age and in extreme cases, skin cancer. Sunscreen blocks or filters these harmful UV rays thereby reducing the skin

PERRICONE Solar Protection SPF 26 ($48/1.7oz @ nvperriconemd.com) and I’d only expect something extra special from this line. On the sunscreen side, it protects against the UVA and UVB rays and the formula is non-whitening, which means you don’t have to wait for it to absorb before heading outside. On the anti-aging side, it contains their patented ingredient, DMAE, an organic compound naturally found in fish, and key anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories. This is a good basic to add to your daily routine.

Even though the summer will be over before you know it, that doesn’t mean you can pack up your sunscreen for the winter. One major doctor in the field, DR. BRANDT, recommends using one with a minimum of SPF 30 to fully protect. His Tinted Daily UV Protection SPF 30 claims to activate the skin’s natural defenses to protect from the suns damaging rays that can break down natural collagen. And as we age, we need to keep all our collagen! The formula comes in three shades, Colorless, Face Medium Bronze, and the one I’ve been using, Face Light Bronze. So not only am I getting the full spectrum of protection, I’m also getting a slight tint that evens out my skin tone. It absorbs quickly into the skin leaving no oily residue and a matte finish. I put a teaspoon of this on my face each morning after my moisturizer, just as the doc advises, and I plan to use it everyday until it’s gone to prevent skin cell damage. $30/1.7oz @ drbrandtskincare.com ~Randi

Well, a lot of the sunscreens are just...blah, if not downright greasy and pain in the butt to wear. They offer good sun protection. But other than that, they aren't that exciting. I'm always looking for sunscreens that have a little something extra. This one has green tea extracts. I'm a big fan of green tea. It's a powerhouse of antioxidants. It has remarkable repairing abilities. You know your skin's protected from the sun and the elements. Give it try :) Available at Tobi.com.

For me, I can do without the serum, but not sunscreen.Well, I'm not about to shove sunscreen down your throat, but here are a few important facts about sunscreen which I think will benefit us.According to the good people at About.com, the sun gives off ultraviolet (UV) radiation that we divide into categories based on the wavelength. UVC radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere and does not cause skin damage. UVB radiation affects the outer layer of skin, the epidermis, and is the primary agent responsible for sunburns. UVB does not penetrate glass, and the intensity of UVB radiation depends on the time of day and the season. UVA radiation penetrates deeper into the skin and works more efficiently. The intensity of UVA radiation is more constant than UVB without the variations during the day and throughout the year. UVA is also not filtered by

      Choosing The Right Sunscreen
SunscreenBefore you head outdoors to enjoy summer activities, slather on the sunscreen. The average adult requires 1 ounce of sunscreen - 2 tablespoons' worth - for full body coverage. Apply 15 to 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every one to two hours while outdoors. The July issue of Mayo Clinic Women's HealthSource offers tips to select the right sunscreen. Look for one that offers:Broad-spectrum protection. Find one that protects against ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) sun rays. Both can damage the skin.SPF of 15 or higher. A sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 deflects about 93 percent of the UVB rays and allows you to remain in the sun 15 times longer than you normally would before getting burned. Higher SPFs deflect about 97 percent of the UVB rays.Water-resistant or waterproof qualities. This is especially important if you will be swimming or perspiring heavily. Water-resistant sunscreen protects for 40 minutes; waterproof sunscreen for up to 80 minutes.Ski

      Can Sunscreen Cause Rickets?
When I was very young all school children in the UK would get a free carton of milk everyday to prevent rickets. Then Margaret Thatcher came along and put an end to it. People used to think that rickets was a thing of the past however some are seeing a great increase in diseases like this directly linked to vitamin D deficiency. If you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables along with taking a daily multivitamin, having a vitamin deficiency probably wouldn’t even cross your mind. However, a staggering number of people over the last several years have been diagnosed with just that. Understanding Vitamin D The human body receives vitamins mostly from food. But in the case of vitamin D, it is also produced in the body by sun exposure. Vitamin D’s job is to help maintain the level of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. It also aids in the absorption of calcium. Concerns of a Vitamin D Deficiency Over the last several years there has been a great increase in vitamin D deficienc

I then switched over to Sunsense by QV, an Australian brand. I loved it because it felt nice on and had mattifying properties, so it made my skin look matt nearly the whole day long. I reviewed this sunscreen and gave it a glowing review. I thought it was perfect - good sunscreen, mattifying, great price. UPDATE: After about 2 months using it, I found that I was having worse than normal breakouts on my face. I was breaking out in places I never used to break out before. Also, I found that my skin was very uneven as there appeared to be many clogged pores. Again, something I haven’t had for a long time. I pondered the reasons for this and looked at all the skincare I’d been using. Slowly, I cut out each of them from my routine. Yet the problem persisted. In the end, on a whim and a hunch, I decided to cut out the

      Girl Talk Reviews: Aromatherapy Sunscreen
We all know that we are supposed to wear sunscreen each and every day, from head to toe... but we don't. What's the deal with that? Somehow I manage to moisturize from top to toe every day, but I just can't bear slathering on sunscreen in the same comprehensive manner. So, why don't we all sport the SPF on a daily basis? Might it be because sunscreen is horribly thick and goopy? Or because it smells like a medicine chest? Or because sunscreen is just not nearly as exciting as picking from amongst our collection of pampering lotions? There are a ton of reasons, none of which sit well with my dermatologist. Sunscreen-the neccessity of summer
People indulge in a lot of travel, sports and outdoor activities in summer. But few of them know that it could have a devastating effect on their skin & eyes. The harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun have the potential to cause ageing of the skin, DNA damage and skin cancer. Scientists are of the opinion that both UVA & UVB can damage the skin. A sun-tan is the proof of the fact that the skin has
