In a candid interview in Sunday’s issue of Parade magazine, actress Halle Berry says she tried to commit suicide over her troubled marriage to baseball star David Justice, but decided against it at the last minute after thinking about her mom.
"I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming, when I had an image of my mother finding me," Berry, 40, tells the paper. "She sacrificed so much for her children, and to end my life would be an incredibly selfish thing to do. It was all about a relationship. My sense of worth was so low. I promised myself I would never be a coward again."

Current Mood: December 2nd was the one year anniversary of my last suicide attempt. The scars on my wrist have faded a lot - thanks to mederma. They aren’t pink anymore so they are hard to notice unless you are looking for them. I am very proud that I haven’t made anymore attempts to take my own life.
I’m also proud that I have not bloodlet or cut since August 19th - I’m two weeks shy of the four month mark. I haven’t even had the urge to do it. I think it has a lot to do with McKayla. I love that baby so much and I want to be around to watch her grow up and I want to stop hurting myself. I know now that when I hurt myself I also hurt those who love me. And people actually do love me.

It started out as cutting on my wrist and before I knew it, I slashed veins and blood was squirting everywhere. I ran to the bathtub because I didn’t want anyone to have to scrub my blood up and just let the blood pour out of me and go down the drain.
Jess showed up. It freaked her out, she was crying. I begged her not to call anyone. She didn’t. But she wouldn’t let me keep bleeding. She grabbed a towel and wrapped it tightly around my forearm until the bleeding stopped. Then she wrapped it up in tape, to keep the slashes from opening back up. Since I used a razor blade they were clean cuts for the most part.
She was supposed to be at work. I knew she needed the money and I didn’t want her to get fired so after the bleeding stopped and my urge to die had passed I made her go to work.
