I remember back when I was distance running competitively, reading an article about a marathon runner who had died of a massive heart attack. With no research, I came to the conclusion that a heart attack while running was probably an unstoppable death.
If you think about it, most people that have heart attacks don’t have the event while their heart is working at maximum capacity. So if their heart is working at a more normal pace it seems that the amount of damage done would be less severe. Even with the quick recovery that a well conditioned athlete has, if your heart gives out at 140 beats a minute and can’t slow down, there’s just no way to survive.
I was reading about the marathon runner who died this past weekend, Ryan Shay. Apparently he was diagnosed at age 14 with an enlarged heart. While they haven’t officially linked that to the cause of death, studies have shown that an enlarged heart is the leading cause of death in athletes.

I'm not doing nothing, but I think I overstated the case on the phone and that was a STUPID move. I think the anxiety/physical part of this has passed, but see, (and I hate to admit this) I'm feeling depressed. Yesterday's post when I brought out that photo was clearly a subconscious acknowledgment of it. I've largely shut myself off recently due to th

Wife loves me again. I hate this on/off kind of stuff she does. Yesterday I was Satan and today she want to be all cuddly and she acts hurt that I don’t respond. She gave me a love note today. It mentioned how much she loves me and how glad she is to have married me and then at the end she writes how she hopes we can “clear up our past with each other”, which is her way of saying, “I love you but why don’t you just confess your past misdeeds (affairs, children by other women, etc.) and get it over with so I can forgive you?” Wow. I would love to know what it feels like to be her, just for a little while, to get an idea of what is going on in there.

Now, the 31st issue of the current Avengers volume has come out, and lo and behold: Elektra turns out to be a Skrull.This appears to be the explanation they've giving for why so many Marvel heroes have been acting out of character, because they've been replaced by Skrulls, or, because they've been brainwashed. No surprise if Captain America, Scarlet Witch and Iron Man turn out to be Skrulls as well.Unfortunately, that's still no excuse for hijacking only so many books into a crossover crisis and depriving them of any real story development better achieved in a stand-alone story of their own. This whole crossover-itis of recent was uncalled for, and did nothing to improve any books that were already going wobbly under writers like J. So what the hell was that yesterday? Yes, Jason turned on Sonny last year, taking over Sonny's business because of his relationship with Emily. Yes, their relationship is obviously still strained. But I was unaware that when Sonny took the business back that Jason signed on as "lackey." What else could explain his treatment of Jason yesterday?I have no use for the character of Sonny. He's an overblown, egotistical caracature. That kind of character can be great on a soap, but he says the same things over and over and over again, and I find all the Sonny storylines tedious and boring.That being said, the attack on Spinelli yesterday was over the top, even for Sonny. It went way beyond jealousy over the relationship between Spin and Jason. It not only proved that there is apparently no relationship left with Jason other than "boss and lackey" but that Sonny finds him completely ignorant and untrustworthy.
