Check out the world’s largest subwoofer, named the Matterhorn. It is a Danley Sound Labs’ masterpiece, consisting 40 subwoofers, 40 1,000-Watt amplifiers, 1100′ of 12-gauge speaker cable, and 23-pounds of 0.030 welding wire. It was built to military specifications. The whole thing was stored in a container. Check out more pictures after the break.

This innovative dsPIC30F2020-based project showcases an interesting approach for reducing speaker distortion and increasing bass response. A dual-coil speaker driver is implemented in the design, but only one of the coils is connected to the power amplifier. The other coil is used for electromotive feedback.
This is not a new idea, but many do not implement [...]

Subwoofers have been used widely in cars to enhance the sound quality and make the driving experience more enjoyable. There are 4 main sizes of car subwoofers:8 inch subwoofers: They are considered to be the smallest subwoofers for pumping out bass without sacrificing trunk space.10 inch subwoofers: They are commonly used subwoofers for installations where space is at a premium.12 inch Subwoofers: They are the most common subwoofer size; 12" subs provide good response at low frequencies.15 Subwoofers: They are larger car subwoofers that hit harder and even deeper than 12 inch subwoofers. Before you buy your next subwoofer, it’s really important to check out which subwoofers fits your needs the most. How To Choose The Right Car Subwoofer The Bottom Line Read this review to find out how to choose the right subwoofer(s) for your car. Choosing a subwoofer can be a very difficult but interesting task. When you're choosing a car sub, you need to know what you really want. It depends what kind of music you listen to, and other factors. -Your Car Is Not A House-*I have heard subwoofers in big rooms in houses. The subs for example were 8", and the rooms were large. The bass was terrible because it wasn't able to fill the room or anything. The vibrations and everything that the sub had to do was not there. The car is a completely different environment. Bazooka makes popular subs, and a lot of people buy their 8" amplified tubes, I have heard these tubes in Jeep Wranglers and in a lot of SUVs, t
The best of the new subwoofers are alluminum subs. I use a single aluminum Audiobahn 12" in my Pathfinder off of a Kicker amp, and I love it. The sound quality that it gives me is very clean and smooth. The surrounds around the voice coils are usually rubber. Other brands may use other types of surrounds, but rubber is still the most commonly used and most durable.-Voice Coils-*The more layers and space that you have, the better sound quality you get. There are two kinds of bass, clean bass and "ghetto bass". Clean bass subs include brands such as Nakamichi, McIntosh, Blaupunkt, Audiobahn, Infinity, and other higher end brands. They usually have dual-voice coils and give very clean bass. There are also such things as "ghetto subs" which can handle enormous amounts of power, such as 1000 Wa

An enclosure does more than simply hold the woofer; it is an integral part of the system. A properly sized and built enclosure can turn an inexpensive woofer into a good performer, while a poorly designed or constructed enclosure will make even the finest woofer sound like mud. There are two main challenges in fabricating an enclosure — making sure it contains the proper volume of air, and controlling the cabinet resonances that otherwise will compete with the sound from the woofer and color its sound. The ideal volume of an enclosure (length x width x height) will vary depending upon the woofer you select. The enclosure volume for your woofer is usually quoted as internal volume. Therefore, in calculating the overall external dimensions of the box, you must take into account the thickness of the board, the space occupied by the speaker and any internal bracing.Once you know the internal volume you want to achieve, you'll decide on the dimensions of the enclosure. As a rule of thumb,
Subwoofers are specialized speakers that reproduce low notes. They're a popular component in many audio systems because they produce deep, strong bass. Also, they help you use your other speakers more efficiently by diverting notes that full-range speakers strain to reproduce.Subwoofers come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The most common type is an unpowered, component subwoofer. This subwoofer lacks a built-in amplifier as a power source, so you will need to hook it to an external amp to draw current. (Some subs have built-in power supplies. See page 3). Also, while some subwoofers can be used without a separate box in space-saving free-air installations, most require a strong enclosure to operate properly. The most basic element of component subwoofer installation is a snap. Mount your component subwoofer to an appropriate enclosure by connecting the leads to the terminal cup, and using mounting screws. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. You'll then run the wiring to a
By: Doctordenten Usually the very first upgrade anyone considers making to their OEM car sound system is to add a subwoofer. It really isn’t surprising since OEM speakers are simply too small and not of sufficient quality to accurately produce low bass frequencies. Subwoofers provide the most immediate improvement one can make to a car audio sound system. Consequently one of the most frequently asked questions is: “How do I select a subwoofer?”Actually, your selection will depend on several factors such as your personal preferences in music, your budget and available space in your. The amount of space you have to dedicate to your subwoofer’s enclosure should be the first thing you consider. In the majority of cases, this decision narrows the field very quickly. But what if space is no problem? Subwoofers range in size from 6” to 18” in diameter. Most are round in shape but in recent years the new square shapes are becoming more and more popular. Materials used in the speake
I got a subwoofer to go with the 42″ TV, Blu-ray player (PS3) and pseudo home cinema with the stereo. As usual I ended up spending more than I wanted to but the sound is great. The subwoofer was made by a Chinese company called Gale, $220.
When I first started playing a DVD the noisy studio logo played, I hadn’t realised how loud the volume levels were set to, I nearly jumped out of my skin. The sound wasn’t a TV sound at all, it was enormous. I then demo’d it with several clips from films and also the Zeppelin DVD - ‘I Can’t Quit You Baby’ - and also The Who’s Kids Are Alright. It felt as loud as being at a friggin’ concert.
After 10 minutes of me playing with this rig there was a knock on the front door. Oh no, I’ve already started to annoy the neighbours with my racket. But no, it was somebody collecting for charity. Did I pay him off well.

XMI's X-Mini claims to be the 'the world's first pocketdize speaker with a built-in bass support and rechargeable battery.' Apparently either feature alone is not a world's first, but together...stand back. You have the stuff PR is made of. Focused on portability, the X-Mini features an extendable, accordion-style vacuum tube that attempts to mimic the resonance of a subwoofer (we don't mean to be complete dicks by saying 'attempts' but we'll believe it when we see it). Mids and highs are represented through that top speaker. Playback lasts anywhere from four to six hours, after which time you'll need to pack up the portable party and call it a night. Well, that, or just put on some headphones instead. $37.(Via Gizmodo.)

What's better than experiencing the bowel-shaking, wall-rumbling, thunderous bass of a custom made subwoofer? Why, having that bass emanate from perfect replicas of the "question mark" and brick blocks from Super Mario Brothers, (thus making it the perfect thing to play back your recordings of the SMB Tesla coil), of course.read more | digg story
I really dig the great job that Nintendo enthusiast Michael Karpinski did with his new subwoofer.

Mofo is a particular model line of extremely beefy subwoofers from the California-based electronics manufacturer. The Mofo-10s appear to be part of what this truck's equipped with. From the specs, these woofers require serious current, so we hope that's a generator truck underneath all the line arrays, crossovers and electro-shock graphics. With a motor structure that weighs 270 ounces, a couple of these babies in the trunk of an RWD car, with the supporting cast of amps, active crossovers, stiffening capacitors, and a battery for good measure, you'd have plenty of snow traction.More related:Audi R4 - New Audi Supercar BMW 1-Series Coupe 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Blue Devil Most Sexy Citroen Concept Car - C-Metisse Shanghai Car Show - Top 10 Concept Car Top Ten Most Expensive Cars of The World!Oldest Driver In BritainToyota i-unit2008 Volkswagen Tiguan Microsoft Office Bus in China Batman Maybach Exelero Car
What's the difference between an alarm clock and another alarm clock? Nothing. That's right, nothing. They disturb our tranquil slumber with their irate, buzzing ringer that is single-handedly provoking more pre-8am violence than any other product in existence. So what's the remedy? How about attaching something to your alarm clock that you don't want to hurl at the closest wall, such as your iPod? To make waking up all the more enjoyable, why not throw a subwoofer into the mix too?
Logic3 has kindly decided to build an iPod-docking alarm clock that comes complete with 2.1-channel sound.

hi,i have a pioneer deh-5050 hu. it has output of 5w * 4. i have a pair of 400w pioneer coaxial speakers. i have two questions:1) are the coaxial speakers good enough for the hu? i am asking because after a certain level (which is not too loud), they seem to be tearing apart!. 2) can i connect a subwoofer directly, without an amplifier to my head unit. here is what is mentioned in the user manual regarding s/w:audio:maximum power output ....... 50 w × 450 w × 2/4 w + 70 w × 1/2w (for subwoofer)continuous power output ... 22 w × 4 (50 hz to 15 000hz, 5% thd, 4 w load, bothchannels driven)load impedance ...................... 4 w to 8 w × 44 w to 8 w × 2 + 2 w × 1.does the above specification mean that i can bridge two channels to drive a sub and rest two to drive a pair of coaxial sp
