More than a year ago, a British teen stabbed his girlfriend 32 times while he was high on cannabis. The 15 year-old apparently got into a fit after his friends told him that his girlfriend had Aids. The traumatized girl was never the same even after plastic surgery healed her wounds. Such teenage substance abuse cases are not isolated to Britain alone though. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health found an increase in drugs other than marijuana from 3.6 to 3.8 percent among people aged 12 and above between 2004 and 2006. While substance abuse is a serious problem, cosmetic surgery specialists realize this none too starkly when they are brought patients who are badly in need of corrective cosmetic surgery due to physical abuse triggered by drugs. A multi-center study published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research of PTSD among individuals seeking treatment for substance abuse has found a greater prevalence of PTSD among those who were drug- rather than alcohol-dependent, and that having PTSD was associated with a more severe course and worse outcome for a SUD. "We already knew that there is a quite relevant association between PTSD and SUDs," said Martin Driessen, professor of psychiatry at Ev. It seems as if every minute is valuable and one cannot afford to waste even 1 precious hour. Time must be organized to ensure that homework is completed, tests are studied for, and work commitments are met. In the middle of this whole mess is the need to provide the body with nourishment so that it may have the energy to make it through the daily grind. When time is tight many find themselves seeking out "easy" snacks, foods that simply taste good and go down without any effort. A twinkie is a great example of one of these "quick and tasty" treats. During a moment of hunger nothing tastes better than a twinkie, full of nothing but sweet, sweet sugar. The harsh consequence

And, we know that John Cornyn supported segregationist George Wallace for President. But, what about the real substance behind the man Lt. Col. and State Rep. Rick Noriega will defeat next November. You can tell a lot about what an elected official thinks and does by the columns they are often privileged to be able to scatter through our state’s newspapers like pepper on mashed potatoes. In John Cornyn’s case, if you read his columns, you might get the impression (and rightfully so) that he has about as much substance as a bag of instant mashed potatoes. Over the past year, he’s extolled the virtues of Blue Bell Ice Cream, shared his undying (and, we’re sure, completely platonic) love for Big Tex, and even offered a history lesson on the Texas Cowboy. New Order - Substance
It's a simple concept--the first dozen singles by New Order collected, a couple of them rerecorded--but it's also a totally entertaining seven-year history of the band that married British post-punk alienation to the relentless hedonism of the dance floor. The band's hits were always deeply unconventional (like the haunting "Blue Monday," essentially a seven-minute drum machine test with a short lyric that alluded to the Falklands War), but they were brilliant productions, layering dozens of electronic countermelodies and percussion tricks over Barney Sumner's uncertain warble and Peter Hook's lead bass parts. Though they're audio snapshots of the dance beats of their time, they've held up both as club classics and as idiosyncratic rock songs.

      Substance Abuse Update
Some things never change. That is a great truth I have discovered. Many things are not what they appear to be and if we don't want to see something we usually won't see it until we choose to. As a behavioralist, one constantly learns just as much about oneself as will be discovered about the subject of therapy or treatment. The accurate diagnosing of a condition improves with repeated exposure to similar cases. Strong intuitive instincts can be quite useful and must never be ignored. In this life I believe there is a reason for everything that happens. I once believed that God allowed substance abusers to cross paths with me as punishment for some terrible sin I may have committed at some past time. What other explanation could there be? Over time I've grown to learn that many times it's not even remotely about this sick and clueless individual who chooses to slowly poison themself into oblivion and eventual death of the spirit, mind, and body. Reality often turns out to be

What is drug abuse and substance abuse?
Drug abuse, also known as substance abuse, involves the repeated and excessive use of a drug to produce pleasure or escape reality—despite its destructive effects. The substances abused can be illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine, or legal substances used improperly, such as prescription drugs and inhalants like nail polish or gasoline. But whatever the drug of choice, substance abuse can be identified by the maladaptive way in which it takes over the user's life, disrupting his or her relationships, daily functioning, and peace of mind. For those in the grips of drug abuse and addiction, their drug controls them, not the other way around. “Uncontrollable, compulsive drug seeking and use, even in the face of negative health and social consequences” is the essence of drug addiction.
“Uncontrollable, compulsive drug seeking and use, even in the face of negative health and social consequences” is the essence of drug addict

Dual Diagnosis Treatment and Substance Abuse
Families who have mentally ill relatives whose problems are compounded by substance abuse problems face problems of enormous proportions. Mental health services are not well prepared to deal with patients having both afflictions. While the picture regarding dual diagnosis has not been very positive at this point, there are now signs that the problem is being recognized and there are an increasing number of drug treatment programs trying to address the treatment needs of people with both problems. Research studies are beginning to help us understand the scope of the problem. It is now generally agreed that as much as 50 percent of the mentally ill population also has a substance abuse problem. The drug most commonly used is alcohol, followed by marijuana and cocaine. Prescription drugs such as tranquilizers and sleeping medicines may also be abused. Substance abuse complicates almost every aspect of care for the person with mental illness. First of all, of course, these individuals are

      Substance Abuse Treatment
Aftercare in a Drug Treatment Program Once a person has gone through all the stages of the drug treatment program in substance abuse treatment and is ready to transition back to the ‘real world’, aftercare is like a kind of insurance on newfound sobriety. Before a person leaves either an inpatient addiction treatment program or an outpatient addiction treatment program, the counselor will most likely encourage him/her to set recovery and life goals. By creating this type of plan this newly sober person will have continued motivation and points on which they must focus during their transition. Planning for aftercare will also involve a renewed interest in relapse prevention and what to do in situations when a person wants to use or drink again. In many cases patients have had ‘home visits’ or ‘passes’ during substance abuse treatment on which they would have attended 12-step meetings or sought out other forms of support. Drug treatment programs often suggest that patients ge

Armand - Searching for Substance (May Mix)
A mix with some of the tracks that I'm feeling right now. The mixing quality is average, as I was in a hurry while mixing... The mistakes are only minor (or at least I hope so). I have a new mix planned for the next days. Stay close. The tracklist is secret... mystery is good.

The Battle Of Style And Substance In Sin City - Or Something Like That
I just have one question about the new "Fight of the Century."Anyone want to take odds on the chances there will be a riot?I think Jay Z and Beyonce are sitting ringside (honestly, I do). I'd love to see Jay Z go old, pre-corporate style on some fool. Preferably Suzanne Somers or someone.I predict this one is going to get ugly.

Finding the right drug or substance abuse rehab is key!
It seems we can't pick up a newspaper or magazine, nor even read the internet news without seeing yet another hollywood star entering rehab for substance or chemical abuse. While it's sad to see yet another fallin' star, you also have to admire them for admitting they have a problem and wanting to receive help. When someone we care about is abusing substances or chemicals many times we want to help but we don't know how, or truly, we just aren't prepared. Drug rehab centers have employees that are specially trained to deal with your addiction, and have a variety of treatment options available. They should always have options for you after your treatment is complete and help you to figure out what is at the root of your problems so you can make sure that the same things don’t happen in the future. If you or someone you love needs drug rehab or substance abuse rehab the best thing you can do is contact someone that can put you in touch with the right kind of center specifically

Ramen Noodles…Tasty Food or Dangerous Substance?
In a recent study done in Sim City it was discovered that sims who cooked ramen noodles in the microwave had a 75% increase in fires than sims that did not. There are currently three theories. The first theory on faulty microwaves was thrown out because it only happens when cooking ramen noodles. The second theory is that ramen noodles are highly flammable. The third theory brings into question the ability of sims to properly prepare ramen noodles. Dr. Vermicelli, who is heading up the study, tells us “It’s not that hard to cook ramen noodles, so I am having a hard time believing that is the cause. However, we have mailed out IQ tests to everyone in Sim City and the surrounding suburbs. Hopefully we will get enough of them back to rule out general stupidity.” There has been some concern with other scientists around Sim City Labs about mailing out the IQ tests and allowing sims to take them at home. They are concerned that people will use the internet to look up the answe

      Substance Dependence
Experimenter administered drug injections, e.g., intraperitoneal (i.p.), intravenous (i.v.) or intracranial, is most frequently used to study the acute or chronic pharmacological effects of drugs regardless of the motivational state.A more optimal model to study dependence is the drug self-administration paradigm in which the animal itself can control their drug intake. In the conditioned operant drug self-administration paradigm the animal is trained to press a lever to obtain a drug delivery (systemic or intracranial). The lever pressing and presentation of a “cue” light during drug delivery is paired (conditioned) to the drug delivery. If the drug is rewarding it acts as a positive reinforcer and lever pressing will be continued. In studies where rats have 24h unlimited access to cocaine, self-administration will be continued until starvation and death (Bozarth & Wise 1985). Different paradigms can be studied when using the self-administration paradigm. In the fixed ratio (FR) sche

      Creative Marketing: Style Over Substance
You've got to give some people credit for creatively finding ways to get other people to spend a lot of money on nothing. The people at Bling H2O have you covered, [...]

Form follows funtion; style follows substance
This phrase: Form follows function …is so oft-repeated by designers that it’s practically become a mantra. This simple expression reminds them that their job is to make something that works, then make it attractive. It helps them avoid creating fatally flawed products by directing them first to the object’s raison d’etre, then to the finer points of its appearance — no wonder it’s repeated so often. In your own life, a similar principle will help you make good choices in most areas of your life, and avoid mistakes that could make you look very foolish. The principle you can use in your own life is: Substance before style If you put substance before style, the same way that designers address function before form, you make better decisions any time that both appearances and practicalities factor into a decision. Many decisions are about style as well as substance, e.g.: Which shoes to buy: sexy stilettos or practical flats? Which home decor: chintzy
