Insulin, and a related substance known as insulin-like growth factor (IGF), have been linked with the growth of prostate tumors in previous research. For the new study, researchers divided 75 mice into groups eating either a low-carbohydrate diet, a low-fat but high-carbohydrate diet, or a diet high in both fat and carbohydrates. The mice on the low-carbohydrate diet had the longest survival and smallest tumor size.
