Every StumbleUpon member likes getting reviewed and once you leave a nice review, there are chances that the person you’ve reviewed will review you back. It has happened 4 or 5 times with me that I left a review and earned a nice review in return. The more reviews you get, the better. But, the main question is: Is reviewing others with the sole purpose to promote your self-submitted content an ethical behavior? Personally, I won’t do that. Neither will I suggest submitting your own blog links unless you feel you’ve written something that others will really, really like and find useful. Even if you have written a quality article, avoid submitting your own pages to StumbleUpon. Self-promotion is liked under a certain limit and it applies everywhere, be it Digg, reddit or StumbleUpon. I’m usually very sceptical about any startup jumping on the gravy-train of giants like StumbleUpon, and it was no different when I was tipped off about YouLicit. I wasn’t expecting much, but it seems my scepticism was unfounded as I installed the plug-in and began playing with the site.
Sign-up took about 3 seconds, the plugin is nice and compact, and the site itself, while not particularly engaging is nice to look at, and childsplay to use. The site works in a very similar way to StumbleUpon; the 3 button plug-in allows you to stumble find random sites, recommend things that interest you, and unlike it’s better-known rival, you can also click through to a series of sites related to the one you’re on.
YouLicit lacks the ’stickyness’ of StumbleUpon, with it’s on-site browsing and user interaction, but it’s still early days and has a lot of catching up to do. That said, the user experience is a good one, and unusually - the plug-in won&rsqu
StumbleUpon (SU) is an addictive web application that I can’t stop using. The idea is you add a tool bar on your internet browser that has a button. That one button will keep you occupied for hours. Every time you click the “Stumble!” button, it sends you to a new website. You vote (with the toolbar) if that site is interesting or not. As sites get more positive votes, the more they appear in the stumble process and traffic that site receives. Let me kick off this review by pointing to the ‘?’ in the title, as I do not intend to make the assertion that this fledgeling start-up can compete with the likes of StumbleUpon (yet), but on first glance at streakr.com, the comparison is inevitable.
Everything, from the toolbar to the site itself just shouts “we want a piece of SU’s meaty pie” and sets about mimicking virtually every aspect of it like there’s no tomorrow, and possibly for this site at least, that may turn out to be true.
You see, I like nothing better than to spot up-and-coming fresh ideas born out of the tea-drenched UK soil, instead of the over funded, often soul-less efforts from silicon valley, but the truth is, streakr has some problems. Problems that would have had me delay this review, had I not found the site from a google ad, which usually tells me the site is ready in the eyes of its founders, and therefore fair game…

The first social media that I get my hands on is Digg which I don’t have an idea of how it works other than the action of submitting my contents to it, getting just one dig and the content I submitted will die off with time. I don’t enjoy it because I don’t understand why some stories can get at least 20 digs whereas the most dig I ever get is only 3.
Del.icio.us is the second social media that I joined after I was recommended to it by pelf from pelf-ism is contagious to me. I tried it out and it is at least better than Digg which don’t even have a proper category for blogging-related news. I enjoyed it for quite some time but it somehow gets really boring for me because of the plain interface.
