I'm almost finished with my photography class. The written final is on Wednesday. Yesterday morning, I was up at 6:00 a.m. to finish my "final project." I was planning on doing a photo essay at UCLA. It's my alma mater and my husband's as well as my mother's and father's. I thought I would be able to define what UCLA means to me, but the outcome was disappointing (The shots I'm using aren't mine because I don't have a digital camera).Still, I had a wonderful time at UCLA. I felt like I was a sophomore all over again (I attended UC Berkeley my freshman year).It's kind of interesting at this stage of my life to begin a new hobby at which I'm so inept. So. I'm taking the wardrobe refashion pledge, starting in April. I actually signed up yesterday, for two months, but after taking a cold, hard look at my spending habits, I changed my mind and decided to go for four. And with the amount of clothing I have, if I can't live on it for four months, I have issues! Besides, I can still go thrifting. For me personally, I'm going to try to limit my thrifting a bit. (Still deciding exactly what this means.) Also, I'm not limiting my buying for le husband--all his stuff falls under "work clothes" anyway. I just don't do well on thrifting nice men's dress clothes. Shoes and underwear do fall outside the restricted areas, too, but I'm going to see if I can limit the shoes. (Underwear really isn't my downfall. However, if I absolutely have to shop, you never know what I might induldge in. It's the equivalent of gorging on baby carrots: good for you, but only in moderation.) So anyway, we'll see how this goes.

With the end of the year rapidly approaching, it is natural to start thinking about making year-end contributions to charitable organizations and those which support atheist activism. Of course, the number of worthy organizations far exceeds my financial means, forcing me to be selective.On the charitable side, I just made my yearly contribution to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). I believe strongly in what they do, and I try to support their efforts both nationally and locally. Thus, I'll also make a donation to the local animal shelter.Moving to the activist arena becomes much more challenging. I renewed my ACLU membership in October and joined the Union of Concerned Scientists in June. I'll consider these contributions sufficient until renewal time. My membership in the Freedom From Religion Foundation will be up for renewal in January, so I will go ahead and renew now. Their monthly newspaper is great, and they take on many causes I support.
